Great show guys! Tom - the education you are doing on installs is excellent! I think it is good for the overall industry and I don't get why more of the car companies are not doing the same.
For all DIYers, take Tom’s advice and check your NEMA 14-50 receptacle monthly for excessive heat 1-2 hrs after charging start. If very warm, inspect wires. For me, this simple test identified wires that loosened.
Thanks, Tom, for that explanation as to why they chose this location -- that being because it's only 2 miles from their HQ. Otherwise, this location so far away from major highways makes no sense at this point in the EV adoption rate of the transformation. My guess is that this location will only be lightly utilized after the initial hype fades away. But it sounds like they want to keep a close eye on it and use it more for testing than anything else.
Similar to my MG ZS EV. Turn on AC and range immediately drops 30km. No smarts in software here 🤣 Another great episode guys. All best to Martyn for a speedy recovery and hope u feel better soon Dom.
I'm leasing the Equinox EV and I absolutely love it. Is it perfect? No, but it's a damn good car for the price. I could see myself doing a new lease on the 2027 model when it comes out if the price is right and if Rivian doesn't release the R3 as planned.
CA is trying to require a 240 outlet or charger in new construction I hope they don't let builders use those cheap ones. Imagine how bad that could be when every new house has one?
was the traffic around dc/baltimore awful? i drove from Richmond, VA to just past Wilmington DE over the summer and was averaging 45 mph from Fredericksburg to just past Baltimore
1:23:13 I was initially disappointed that the full EV RAM 1500 was delayed but then read that the EREV comes with like a 100 kWh battery so NBD. Price is what is hurting EV pickup sales. Without building swappable batteries and moving to the non-battery ownership model I don’t see a solution to the price problem. With battery swapping which CATL and NIO in China have adopted with gusto you get same to lower acquisition cost and same to quicker refueling experience when not charging at home. IMO U.S. manufacturers are going to be caught behind and the Chinese market model is going to swamp them.
I really wanted to make it to Apex, but just could not take the time this week. I understand the distinction, but I still consider EREV to be a PHEV. I consider claiming that it is an EV is marketing, which is just paid lying. I would like to see what the final count of cars charged during the Apex event with a break down of types.
Codes need to change to require EV certified outlets. If UL doesn't have an EV outlet standard already they need to create one and codes should require that they be used. Better yet all hign amp outlets should meet the standard.
Hi all, for the one's who are worried about someone else stopping the charging session, if it works like on the french network Electra who use massively Alpitronic, you can't stop the session by accident. Either you stop it with the app, or if you press stop you will have to use the credit card or the RFID card who was used to initiate the charging session, so you can't stop the other car session by mistake....
I believe we are now in North America in the same time period in EV adoption as we were in the beginning of smart phone adoption when Android just came to market. There is a juge expectation that most EVs are going to improve tremendously overnight that yesterday EVs will become worthless. There is little saturation of preown EV market the way it's in ICE world. Lots of leases are going to expire in several months making first attempt on preown market saturation. We might see finally some stabilization of EV market ratger sooner than later.
What about the screw in wire at the bottom of the 40, 50, and 60 amp breakers? Are those bad breakers? Are there alternative breakers that should be used? Also, spend the $60 and get a Costco membership. You can get the $1,000 Costco discount immediately after you sign up. Tom-😉
30 minutes (ideally) for charging, leaves little to do much else. Software that helps in forming Qs, quick/seamless charging, quick assistance with windscreens, tires goes further. All the other things can take place in side the cars. Surely the amenities look attractive, but will only increase idle charging. And impact efficiency. Surely Ionna will realize 6 months down the line.

Electric vehicle leases need to account for the $2.5-3k (EV dependent) of inevitable tire replacement. Within the 3 year period. Even 2 years, probably. Be it fab acceleration or the weight. That’s a cost lease-ers need to assume.
interestingly, I keep a near 99/100 score on my Tesla Safety, and my Michelin tires nearly lost all thread after 21k miles. Its also where you drive, quality of roads etc.,I had an interesting conversation with an exec at Rivian, who too confirmed that at some time around the end of the lease, you could expect a tire replacement.
I'm sorry, but IONNAs approach seems like it's destined to be a disappointing failure. They're trying to make it comfortable. It needs to be convenient.
the Hyundai Ioniq N looks like a blast but the range is a huge issue. the problem with low range ev's is NOT how many miles i can drive when NEW, it's down the line in a few years. If it starts with 220 miles, in 4-5 years when the battery degrades to 80%, you're talking about 180ish miles. that will be a nightmare on road trips.
@ that would apply to Ferraris but people who are buying “this” car as a high perf car probably ONLY have one vehicle so it would suck to take on a road trip was all I was saying.
Chrysler/Stellantis might as well just declare for bankruptcy now and get it over with. Their Charger EV was widely panned, and they keep delaying their EV truck making them fall further and further behind, as they play around with a truck with a small battery that forces you to keep burning money on gas. It's like paying for a mule team to pull your automobile in the early 1900's after it ran out of gas after its 15 miles of range.
Thanks guys! Merry Christmas! 🎄🎄
Nice seeing everyone at the event! I had to travel the following day, so my videos have been delayed.
Great to meet Dom, Tom, Kyle and Jordan.
I missed Jordan.
Great meeting you, Seamus!
Tom is always a class act!
How'd I miss the pizza? Jersey style is amazing! Dang. Maybe next time. So much fun.
I ordered the Columbia Inn pizza Tom likes from Goldbelly - a bit costly but arrived frozen and came out delicious.
I was there! Had a great time seeing everyone!

How many apartment dwellers? Any reason there is Uber or Lyft traffic?
Checked my outlet a while back and yup it was burning. Replaced and torqued a quality one rather than the POS the installer used.

The Bucees in Springfield Missouri has Alpitronic chargers installed now. Mercedes has not yet marked the site as active though.

I’ve not seen the requirement in writing yet, but I think they were only 20-32a ?
@ It’s not a matter of amps it’s continuous draw those $10 ones can’t handle without melting inside
@@frankcoffeyYes, like those cheap 10 amp rated extension leads. Might be rated 10 amp but can't handle it continuous without melting. 🤣
Great show. enjoyed this.
I think Greg Kramer
"The investment is more than most independent gas stations would want to pay."
is spot on

VinFast dealer in Orange County, California too.
I missed the last slice :(. And the catered food was great.
Dang, I had a Dr and dentist appointment on the 19th or I would have driven up.
Donahoo Chevrolet is amazing. They let me test drive whatever by myself and completed the deal quickly without forced add-ons.
I’ve had great experiences with Bob Johnson dealerships in Rochester. Long test drives in Blazer EV, Hummer EV, and the amazing Silverado RST EV!

I was going to point that out, you beat me to it!
Still waiting on Ford Adapter since May. It moved from Oct, Nov, to Dec. Still showing Dec as of Dec 23, 2024.

Merry Noel from Alberta, Tom why is Ford switching from TESLA adaptors? I just got mine, are they still faulty?

Tom understands Toyota best. They don’t want to sell EVs, only hybrids.
Andrew, you need a better mic and/or need to mute when not speaking if you come back.

Depends how you drive. My 3yo Michelin are still good after 50,000 km.

Thank goodness there was no Tesla shilling today. Good episode when we don't mention that sorry excuse for a car company
