      @@Joey-ct8bm that's true. It is a step forward. But I'm so dazzled that "democracy" ignores the mayority. That's the big flaw of party-politics. Politicians do not represent the voice of a voter.

    • @Joey-ct8bm

      @@johndoe-tk6en That totally depends if your party wins or not.
      I would go crazy if i lived in the US and you win the popular vote and not the presidency. I would totally understand if you lived in the US. That's definitely not democracy at all. In Europe most of us have great multiparty systems. There's never a real majority in a multiparty system. Too radical left or too radical right is gonna give problems. People will get mad. There always need to be a center voice in there somewhere.
      It's more what you expect. You never get all points on a election program from a party. It's never gonna be perfect. I'm not a one party guy. I always pick and choose on election programs. In the US you can't do that for instance. Red or blue are your only two options.
      I would follow UK politics right now. It's a absolute mess there after Brexit. The conservatives are in the polls 155 seats down. Their immigration policy is even worse. Nothing worked there despite Brexit.
      I'm very glad my country the Netherlands is in the EU. It has it's faults, but we can change it together. Together we are strong in influence against Russia or the US. Right or left. Alone we're gonna be picked apart.

    • @johndoe-tk6en
      @johndoe-tk6en 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@Joey-ct8bm I do understand it can be much worse like you explained in the US or with any other dictatorships like in Russia. Russia just shows us how prone a democracy can be for a power grab... Turkey and Hungary are less obvious examples. However here in Belgium you can't start a party unless it's conservative. The campaign money comes from the taxpayers. Decised by politicians in power. How can that ever be fair? I do agree that mass voice steers politicians opinions. And that it is super important that that voice is heard. However, real decissions on funds and politician posts will never be for the public to have a say. Those decissions are always made behind the backdoor.
      We are forced to vote. But what does it matters if we have no say on the real decissions or posts? It's just to show the mass voice direction it wants to go.
      I want a democracy that gives us the choice to vote on the real decissions. Monthly! Weekly! I want to vote on thibgs that matter. Not on people that lie. Or worse, party's of people that conceive the public like it is now.
      Politics has been made like an industry. That's just wrong. Only "gemeentelijke" elections give you the slightest say that can affect your life. Because those politicians live nextdoor.

    As one of the top comments suggests, controlling who enters your country is not racist. A country’s first goal is to take care of its citizens with the limited amount of resources it has. If we just look at the examples of Sweden or Ireland we can clearly see that letting too many people in affects the wellbeing of your citizens in a negative way. In Sweden, crime is up, gang violence is all time high while in Ireland there is living space crisis where the government is unable to place all the immigrants coming in so they’re forced to place hundreds of them in hotels in small communities + rent prices are up due to the high demand. And this is only the very beginning. Another important question is: is it even possible to integrate so many immigrants from very different cultures. So far, it seems that even rich countries such as Sweden struggles to do that because big group of immigrants tend to create their own little society. Generations can grow up without any sign of integration which is not good nor for the locals or the immigrants. Europe should be helping but the EU also needs to learn when to say no otherwise it creates serious issues for itself.

      Totally agree. lived in both countries, Certain parts of Swedish cities are ruled by Kurdish and African gangs. on the other hand Ireland in particular turned into an expensive kip. Miserable piece of land. Tourists cannot find a place to stay and the hotels are bought by local so-called businessmen where the government pays crazy money to them to accommodate asylum seekers, young Irish are emigrating and the Indian and Pakistani workforce is replacing them, Dublin is like big dump, drug users, asylum seekers everywhere and streets are like toilet. Small towns used to be tourist spots, but now most of the pubs and cafes are shut and streets are full of male asylum seekers, I suppose they don't go to pubs that often :D the worst is the government parties don't even acknowledge that they have an immigration problem, instead, they celebrate it as 'diversity and multiculturalism'. Anyway, thankfully I left Ireland a few months back and settled in the NL for now.

    We in the nominal West need to look ahead toward the increasing pressure to leave less well developed countries. Over the long term immigration pressure will only increase if we do nothing to improve the conditions at home for those who might otherwise migrate. Too often we have been the willing accomplice of autocratic kleptocrats who only made the problem worse. I offer no easy answers but it is obvious that our current course in the EU&US leads toward internal instability.

      Providing urban development aid to poorer nations has no effect on emigration. On the other hand, rural development aid has a negative correlation with emigration (source: does rural development aid reduce international migration?, J. Gamso, 2018). Yet, (I am thinking to myself) there must be a point (HDI) after which emigration starts to stabilize and then decrease. If anyone finds any credible paper on that, please notify!

    Set up more consulates/immigration services centres in North Africa and elsewhere to handle asylum applications, then increase policing of the Mediterranean closer to the southern coast in order to prevent illegal migration in the first place. Policy after policy in The EU just keep making illegal migration more and more tempting so the issue gets worse with more ppl risking their lives. Most "Western" countries need immigrants and they should be welcomed and supported, but it's become silly and overly challenging to immigrate legally, while simultaneously making it easier and more tempting to do so illegally. Government policies and management of immigration has just gotten more nonsensical each decade.

    Plain and simple - if EU ministers and representatives have democratically agreed on it .. then it is an agreeable decision. Time will tell if it helps those in need as well as the countries most affected by it. Some countries will always be xenophobic and only wish to economically profit from a union, while others are willing to carry more weight. People must understand that there is not only taking from the EU, but also giving.

    Any EU country govermant can't just say no to this policy, they have to accept certain amount of immigrants or they will be fined 20 000 euro for 1 person. It doesn't matter what was the policy of these countries before, how much they were protecting their citizens for illegal immigration - they have to surrender to that policy paying for the supidity of the other countries rules. Poland by example, we accepted about a 1 million legal immigrants from Ukraine because of war. It was simple thing, natural because they were in great need so polish peoples open their houses and hearts for them because I'm sure they would do the same for us. Very rare they were in some camps, mostly peoples private homes, some appartments. BUT! It doesnt't matter now. They are counting the illegal imigrants only! Look... In example.. An immigrant comes to Italy -> Italy is sending him by bus to some other country and recived 20 000 euro for it. What does it look like? Getting money for a person. Human trafficking. Slave andlars were doing the similar deals. It was just illegal then. And now?? It's just sick!
