Ah. The B-17 Flying Fortress. Famous for being able to absorb huge amounts of damage and still make it home. Meanwhile in War Thunder, it takes a single 20mm round to bring it down... or a sustained left turn.
Meanwhile the Pe-8 has a ufo flight model. Don’t get me started on the 264’s maneuverability

@@hammer1349 I feel like the MG151 does well against fighters but their effectiveness should certainly be lowered against bombers a bit
Gaijin really needs to rework the damage models on bombers. 1G Turn? Lose a wing. 20mm round? Detonate entire fuselage. Machine gun rounds from a deflecting angle? Fuel fire and two engines dead. Recovered from a fire? Well that is great, lose your entire rudder.
the Bomber damage models have been borked for a decade. ever since the Yer-2 nonsense started. rather than actually change a single plane (and a soviet one at that), the devs just did their usual "balance via sledgehammer" routine.
And before somebody says anything: there's a reason the B-17 is legendary for it's resilience, and the B-24 isn't. Nevermind that I'm still not convinced this game models MG/autocannon spread of fire accurately.
Gaijin needs to do alot of work in their game bombers have been screwed since day 1.

Tbh that's pretty accurate
The difference between Warthunder and IRL is the experience level of the opposition. In game, even the lowliest scrub has many, many, many times more flying hours than your average pilot - and almost all of it engaged in direct combat. They have accuracy skills that a WW2 pilot could only dream of.
Plus the controls are just a lot easier ingame, which again makes it just so much easier to engage and bomber and land 5 20mm rounds right in a single spot. Whereas IRL they'd kinda be spread willy nilly across the sky.
@kirotheavenger60 the other unrealistic part is that no fighter pilot would sit behind a bomber eating mg rounds trying to shoot their tail/wing off
@@kirotheavenger60 but a tail being cut loose from a couple shots? also the wing get holes and lose effectiveness, but it wouldnt outright make the plane unflyable right?
@@kirotheavenger60 controls are oversimplified, accuracy is somewhat better than you'd expect out of aircraft-mounted guns...oh, and the big thing: the game pathologically spawns bombers so they get to the AO before their fighters. IE something that would never be allowed to happen IRL.
And even fully trained gunners somehow don't deter a fighter from boring in. I'm here to tell you: even a couple B-17s such as in this video should be absolutely a no-go zone for enemy fighters. there's a reason the bomber box was used.
@@kirotheavenger60 It's not accurate, in real life you'd actually have to control the plane with a variety of flight controls while keeping it stable enough to get enough ammo on target to down it, meanwhile Warthunder has you just put your cursor over the target and shoot.
There's a massive difference in the level of skill that it takes to even go from WT to a combat flight sim. I'd bet someone who has only played Warthunder wouldn't last long when given a flight stick and made to fly anything on an IL-2 game in a combat scenario.
B-17s are fun to fly, until you get looked at anyways! And remember, you won't get out, not when it dives at 300 knots.
The electrics keep you alive, the wires, the cables, up there at those 30,000 feet.
playing bomber seems like a lot of fun. I really like flying in a straigt line for minutes untill I finally get shot down without doing anything.

Bo, my late father would have loved seeing your B-17G in this video. My dad was a flight engineer/top turret gunner in the same unit as Man O War II. Dad was in the 322nd, 91st BG in 1944/45 and flew missions alongside Man O War. Dad normally was assigned to The Bride of Mars and Wee Willie, both of which were shot down after Dad completed his tour of duty. Though Dad probably would have face palmed at TBLF’s idea of formation flying, I am sure he would have been thrilled to see you keeping the memory of his WW2 unit alive. Always love watching TBLF fly their planes to the *extreme* and by that, I mean a minor turn in any direction that exceeds a G.
Gaijan turning a legendarily tough aircraft into ...this... keeps me from playing the game. The enemy sneezes somewhere vaguely in it's direction and the B-17 explodes into many large pieces.
I find it strange the B-17 constantly snaps it wings but the Lanc and PE-8 can stunt plane flying.
Tell me Gaijan is on crack without telling me Gaijan is on crack with these aircraft and the BR rating. You would have thought the Germans built 10,000 TA-152s

I don't get it either. B17 is arguably the best bomber of WW2 hands down across the board in EVERY single conceivable way. War thunder version: copilot spits into a cup, b17 snaps in half from the "impact". It's soo intensely far off from what it was actually capable of that you KNOW it was done intentionally because someone hated that the Americans dominated WW2 and just couldn't allow it to be so in game.

they need to buff the heck out of the b17 its almost impossible to play without dying, one 20mm shouldnt rip the entire aircraft in half long ways

I find it funny how the most threatening enemy to a B-17 is a high g (1) maneuver
I really wish they'd go and fix the bomber flight models. Tails have been snapping like twigs for far too long.
I also wish they'd make missions, or more events, for bombers, to give them a better purpose in the game.
Kinda like the P51 escort mission that they bring back every now and then, but more so emphasized on the bomber perspective than the fighters.
I know the reason they probably don't do it is inability to get ai fighters working well enough, and they don't like focusing on PvE, which is what it would need... but bombing missions for each country and tier would be pretty cool.
It's just a little disheartening to see the potential for missions like that in the game, but knowing it'll probably never happen.

(yes i know there are other games that do have a better bombing experience. War Thunder just has some of the best looking flight models and flight controls that i have ever experienced (imo), and those QOL updates for bombers i don't think would be that difficult if they actually set to it, and i think would be far more liked and used than other things they are doing, like naval)

I love how totally realistic these in game damage models are.
Actually the moment u loose at least 2/3 of the rudder on any plane, the game says "fuck physics" and u are dead,(and go into a flat-spin no matter what) despite the plane otherwise still would be able to fly!
And I do believe that all bomber tails are "factory defective" in this game! I mean bombers are way too easy kills than their real life counterparts.
Yeah I remember when the game first came out and bombers were harder to kill and then everyone else started bitching about it and now we got the Boeing update where literally one 7.62 round will take your whole plane apart no matter what you’re flying

I know. You hear stories of planes like Ol' 666 and you know that Gaijin does this for "balance."
@@TheRealTburtyou also have "ye old pub" which got shot up to hell and another b17 that had a bf 109 (correct me if im wrong) crash into it and left the entire tail section barely holding on and both of them made it back to base

There were also two that collided midair and got locked together ("Nine Lives" was one of them), the two planes stayed together until they hit the ground where the bottom plane disintigrated.
Then there's also "Old 666", which ended up looking like one of those "survivorship bias" diagrams and still landed safely; and also pulled extreme menuvours for a B17.

Jesus they nerfed this thing into the god damn ground. US bombers were damn near impossible to kill. German Anti Air crews reported that they didn’t shoot at them because it’s a waste of ammo. There’s bombers that have literally been struck by multiple direct 8,8 shots and made it home.
I know. A game that focuses on realism but then backs off because players complain. World of Warships is the same. The battleship players were getting butthurt because Japanese destroyers were devastating them with torpedoes like what happened irl.

I would suggest a drinking game where you take a shot every time Bo loses his tail, but I'm pretty sure you would die from alcohol poisoning if you try that.

You take 2 cannon rounds and the B17s tail just rips off. I mean come on, as much as the B17 had fawls it was very survivable.
