    Hi Trev, I've been using the orange one for about two years now and I've got no complaints. It’s perfect for motocamping. Takes about 3-5 minutes to set up and I've gotten caught in major storms and never got wet. I can really recommend this one, especially for tall and large people. It's a true 2-person tent.

    Hi Trev, I picked up an orange Star River in a sale for an amazingly low £60 last year, I used it this winter for a couple of nights 25mph winds and was pretty quiet. I went for the 210T polyester version, which is heavier weight , but doesn’t sag when wet like the 20D nylon, I’m guessing yours is Poly too at over 2kgs. Prior to the SR I bought a NH Mongar 2 in 20D grey which is about 1.65kg, both are great tents, clones of the BA Copper Spur/MSR Hubba Hubba designs, which in my honest opinion are two of the best 3 season design of tents out there, near vertical walls, 2 entrances, headroom everywhere. I have a MSR Mutha Hubba too and comparing the quality I was surprised how good the clones were for the money. Good choice, I’m sure you’ll love your time in the Star River.

    I´ve got the Star River 2 just a week ago and I´m going to test it out this weekend myself.
    Because I really rely on your reviews I look forward to see your results in a future Clip.
    Since my region is kind of "boring" :) I hope you guys can put it to the acid test ;-)
    Thank you so much for the tip to roll up all three layers together after taking the poles out. It´s really a usefull, time-sparing advice.
    I´ll keep tuned and hope to hear more from you soon.
    Keep enjoiyng the outdoor...
    ... and I´ll keep improving my English-skills :)))

    I got one of these a couple of years ago. Nice bit of kit, going to keep it handy for longer trips because of the size, but a wee bit heavy. For my solo lightweight trips I've gone and bought myself a Tarptent Moment DW. Big one man tent, two porches, two entrances. Bit more expensive at around £325 delivered from the States, but less than a kilo, 4 season and still half the price of a Hilleberg.

    • @SummitOrNothing
      @SummitOrNothing  5 лет назад +1

      Wow that sounds like quite a bit of kit. I shall have to look into that, thanks. And may I add.... Love your profile pic. Life Aquatic is one of my favourite films ever.

      @@SummitOrNothing Tarptent have all sorts of great kit. It can be a bit pricey compared to the likes of NatureHike (although the build quality is miles ahead), but still cheap compared to the European competitors like Hilleberg or Nordisc. They're a small company, all the tents are handmade in Seattle. I emailed them after the order to ask if they could seam seal it for me in the factory, and I got a reply (to say yes) from the owner, Henry. Definitely worth your custom and investment.

As for bright colours, I understand that those good folks at Mountain Rescue (at least in the Lake District) prefer bright colours - it makes it easier to locate lost and injured walkers / climbers.

    Hi Trev. For exposed, windy use, a geodesic or semi-geodesic design would work best. As Will has mentioned already The NH Cloud Peak 2 would be a good option. One of the other wild camper you tubers, can't remember his name right now, has one, and has done a review. These designs tend to be a little heavier due to there being 3 full poles, but you get the advantage of stability, and of course freestanding. Personally, I'd have one really lightweight tent, held up with a hiking pole for more protected areas, and a geodesic or semi-geodesic for more exposed locations. But that's just my ha'pennys worth.

      I have a monger 2 and its took some battering over the last 2 years, a walking pole wedged up to the cross pole helps a hell of a lot though depending on which side is getting a battering . The HUBS on the poles are the weakest point on the nature hikes{impossible to source any new ones either] .

    • @SummitOrNothing
      @SummitOrNothing  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, it'll be interesting to see it on the moors in the high winds. There are a few areas I think there may be faults or weakness. The pole across perhaps, and yeah, the skirt at the back seems a bit dodge kind of flapping over the line like that looks like it would want to lift in the wind.

    • @stubloggs6358

    Hi Summit or Nothing. I’m thinking about doing the West Highland Way in a few weeks, then maybe Hadrians Wall in Early August. I’ve been looking for a 2 man backpacking tent and after much research I’m honing in on either this or the the Naturehike cloud up 2. As you’ve used both which would your recommendation be, the cloud up is lighter but this one seems more substantial and probably better at keeping the 2 walls away from each other in the wind. Although this is a touch heavier and more fiddly by the looks of things. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

    • @SummitOrNothing
      @SummitOrNothing  4 года назад +1

      I would go with he cloud up 2. You get additional guy lines with it,make sure you attach them all, the two to the sides and an extra one to the rear window and the thing is pretty much bomb proof. The star river seemed a little too big inside for one person, and was harder to keep warm too. Hope this helps.

    По палатке могу сказать что не все так однозначно. Но обо всем по порядку. Брал подруге, это её первая (фактически) палатка, и для этой роли не все так плохо. Но поскольку через мои руки и походы прошла не одна. Вот мои впечатления (после тестовой установки).
    Минусы:
    -фурнитура\стропы\оттяжки слишком тяжелые, можна было взять все тоньше оттяжки (не 4 мм а 2мм), уже (стропы) и меньше (фастексы) соответствено легче.
    -Отсутствие полки, не критично но все-же, можно было б и положить. (опционально не продается, что еще больше минус, поскольку у ТОП брендов она хоть и не входит но можно отдельно купить). Поскольку это как по мне хорошее место для ночного света в палатке, телефона, и других важных вещей.
    -Отсутствие кармана для ночного света в палатке под потолком.
    -Двери палатки, ребята да как так ? Почему не сделать боковые, зачем они должны валятся в ногах ? Смысл делать именно такое открывание дверей самой палатки. И самое главное что-бы выйти нужно полностью расстегивать двери, запуская кровопийц внутрь.
    -Пространство в палатке, такое ощущение что это идеальная 1ничка а не 2ка, ну вот как-то так визуально и тестово сложилось. (Буквально на днях перед это палаткой была у меня the north face triarch 2, так я скажу что она значно объемнее внутри и просторней).
    -Ползунки на молниях(что это?) да поставте вы 2 или 1 мм шнурочек с светоотражателем, а не это неизвестно что.
    -Вентиляция, явно не идеальная. Но только поход покажет насколько. Конденсату точно быть.
    Полюсы:
    +Вес, вполне комфортный но мог бы быть и меньше. ~2100 гр с футпринтом.
    +Характеристики (по водостойкости).
    + Упаковка.
    +Фурнитура (качественная). Время покажет насколько.
    +Футпринт в комплекте.
    +Карманы для мелочей.
    +Внутренняя палатка часть сетка\ткань. Хороший вариант даже для осени или гор. (Но точно не для зимы)
    +легкая и простая установка
    И как вывод:
    повторюсь для первой палатки очень даже не чего, учитывая ценник, характеристики и вес. Но могла бы быть легче и функцыональней. Есть над чем работать и куда совершенствоваться. Подойдет на 3ри сезона, для походов и путешествий. Идеальная однушка, но для двух уже немного мало пространства, для жизни внутри, для сна все же 2ка.
    Больше дополню уже после похода, думаю там будет что еще сказать и по "-" и "+".
