Have you ever eaten a "Century Egg" !? They are made by storing raw eggs for a few months in a mixture of weed, ash, salt, and lime with either tea, or clay (via google).
I wanna try one! I love trying new different things. I'm glad I get to live vicariously through you, thanks! 💚💚💚
Usually it’s eaten in a rice porridge here !! I want to try that way~
@@LayersOfJenn in Taiwan it's also common to eat it with cold tofu, bonito flakes and soy sauce. very common appetizer. I didn't like it at all when I was little but now I love it. It does not have a strong taste but you still need to acquire it to appreciate it. Also, I've almost never eaten it alone. You eat it always with something.
My mum will sliced century egg into cubes and mixed it into beaten egg and salted egg. Fried it and served it as omelette
(I can't stand it's smell but when it is mixed into omelette, it's very yummy 😋 )
@@jethrolai The one i had came with tofu as well~
Hey Jen, so glad you making new friends, I need to definitely visit Taiwan in future when it’s saver to travel💗🌸🤗
It’s def a place I think more people should consider traveling to once things are safe 👌🏻♥️
@@LayersOfJenn my first love is Japan of course, been there twice, but Taiwan is definitely on my bucket list🤗
Yayyyy!! I’m actually excited to travel back to japan once everytbing is safe. That and get to the Philippines again !
@@LayersOfJenn that’s awesome looking forward to when u make videos for those🤗
@@LayersOfJenn it’s super safe to travel to Taiwan now.
I love learning about Taiwan (from both the video and the comments)! And I'd definitely try the "Century Egg", since I tend to enjoy "acquired" tastes (e.g. natto). haha
Haha I forgot that you like natto! An acquired taste I never really developed lol
Thanks for showing us these cute places😊. The dance you did when eating the wax apple was adorable, like a kid in a candy store😁
Haha I was so happy. I bought a huge bag the other day and already ate it all 😅😅
Your videos make me miss Taiwan sooo much!! I loved shopping at Hola, Carrefour and the Net! I still have so many clothes so got from Net. Turkey rice was one of our favorite quick meals too. glad to see you’re having fun exploring!
The net location I went to in Chiayi was nice and I liked that one! The location I went to in Zhubei though was a bit smaller. I can’t wait to go ham in carrefour next time I’m in need of groceries
You’re so cute that you can mix English and Japanese and Chinese now together when you speak
My brain is tired LOL but I’m happy to be learning!!
I love your stories and learning about Taiwan and Japan please keep making these videos my DIL is chinese and love her stories of her life growing up
I hope to keep making them~ thank you ♥️🙏🏻
Actually, the toro gates in Meiji Jingu came from Alishan hinoki. There’s a sign that explains it at the shrine.
WHAT really !?!? That’s amazing information lol. I looked at Meiji Jingu so many time .. and to think I was in the area that the wood came from 🤯 Everything really is full circle
toro or torii?
Wax apple is one my favorite fruits as well! I'm glad that you tried the century egg, I usually eat it with congee if you ever want to try that out :)
I want to try it that way next time!
I'm loving to get to know Taiwan through your vlogs!
I’m loving you guys loving Taiwan 😭♥️
Hello give me your number 😁
You’re one of the few RUclipsrs that I keep coming back to!
Thanks for the amazing content 💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you 😭♥️
Those coffee shops were so cute! And rose apples? I had no idea such a fruit existed, it looks delicious!
Yes!! They are called by many different names like: rose apple, wax apple, jambu, watery guava, lian wu, etc!! It’s my favourite fruit here in Taiwan!
They are great but very delicate. That's why it's hard to find them in places far away.
Ohhh that’s why!? Noted!! They are super delicious ~
It's so cool to see the other parts of Taiwan! I definitely enjoy the little snippets you share on Instagram and then the longer RUclips video after and it's making me seriously miss being able to travel :( When you said the video is a long one near the end I actually wasn't ready for it to end!
Aweee well I’m glad that it wasn’t too long for you then 😭♥️ and I really do love IG stories. They are just so easy to post
I just enjoy your vlogs so much.
Your new home looks so lovely! I can tell you are really enjoying it. I love hearing you learn more Chinese, and that I can learn a little vicariously.
Thank you!! I’m slowly picking up some Chinese. I should be starting a few classes next month 🙏🏻
My goal is to one day do a “speaking Chinese for a whole day” vlog 😂👌🏻
Interesting video! Carrefour is French, I didn't know they had them over in Taiwan! They're normally just grocery stores but the bigger ones do have some house stuff too. I live in rural France and the one in my village is basically a corner store! I've never had a century egg but I brought back some black eggs from Hakone that were cooked in the hot springs. They were goooood!
Ohhh the Hakone eggs are delicious and the only thing really different from them is the outside it black !! And I had no idea carrefour was french 😂 it’s *amazing* inside!
Salut! Carrefour has been here in Taiwan since 1987.
I love the long vlogs. Keep them coming. Love seeing your new surroundings.
More coming!
Love seeing all the places you visit. Keep up the great videos!
I’m already planning another adventure :)
Hope you enjoy this small city trip. And welcome to visit Chiayi again.
I will be back for sure ~
I’ve been waiting for your next video! I absolutely love to kick back and unwind from the day while watching you.
Thank you for that 😭♥️👌🏻

Another amazing video!! So fun to see you making friends and exploring 🤍🤍
I’m def putting myself out there!!
Hello baby give your instgram I'd send me
Omg, I'm so much into your Taiwanese vlogs!! I've never visited there so I'm kind living the experience through you ☺️
Yayyyy music to my ears 🎶 ♥️
It's nice that you made friends really quickly there.
Very lucky!!! ✨
I really like the swift change between before and after makeup.
Magic 💫
I'm glad your making new friends and the shops looks so cute
I’m trying to make new friends 🥰 Lilla was AMAZING & we will meet again next month!
@@LayersOfJenn that's great and exciting that you guys are meeting up again
I loved this video, I can tell you are getting a bit more comfortable :) I am so excited to see you blossom in this new environment! Spread that positive Leo energy!!!!
Slowly I’m getting there and then everyone will want me to put the leo energy back into the box 😂😂😂😂
I miss wax apples so much. You can’t find it in the US at all. My aunt once managed to grow one in California but only got two tiny fruits the size of a strawberry and she sent it to us on the east coast. It was so good but we each only got an extremely tiny bite. I can’t wait for quarantine to lift fully so I can visit Taiwan again
Your pronunciation of mandarin is really good~~ amazing!!!
Great smile+ great adaptation= great personality. What a great gal you are~~~
Thank you 😭💯
Loved this long video ...keep em comin ‘!!
I’m trying to do more long videos in the future 👌🏻♥️
love it!!! i actually started following you for japan content and i never had a special interest in Taiwan but i find your videos very interesting and fun to watch!! i also love your editing! very nice!
Yayyy I’m really happy to hear that you’re enjoying the Taiwan vlogs :)
& I’m trying to get better at editing 😊
Your Taiwan vlogs are so interesting. Living vicariously through you 🤗 also so glad to see your channel growing so much! Congrats 🥳
I feel so refreshed here. It’s hard to explain and everyone also being interested in Taiwan gives me extra motivation to share.
And thank you 😊 It had a little jump recently 👌🏻

Ohhh have fun there!

Hello black girl
I love your videos, they are always so calming, and I feel like I’m traveling getting my travel fix in. Keep up the amazing work beautiful lady!
Thank youuuu ♥️🥰 I wish everyone could come and travel but, reality isn’t like that atm 😭
Fun trip! Nice to see you getting to do more exploring around Taiwan. Looking at your pinned comment, no wonder you were so hesitant about the century egg!
Haha I’ve had a few Taiwanese people ask me if I could eat it and, now I can gladly say I can!!
I feel like it’s like natto in japan. It’s one of the most common questions Japanese people asked me: “Can you eat natto??” (The answer is no 😅)
@@LayersOfJenn Same for me. I've tried natto a few different times and the answer is always nope.
Lol maybe I’ll be like that with stinky tofu here in Taiwan but, I still want to try :)
oh man carrefour bringing back memoriessss. Oh man your shower, i love it .
That’s my bougie shower 😂 I usually use the normal one~

I love wax apples too! One of my fave Taiwanese fruits!
So delicious!!

Really enjoyed this video! I loved seeing you explore Taiwan. The turkey rice place looked delicious. Have you tried duck rice? I had it at this fantastic little restuarant in Kaohsiung when I visited Taiwan. Definitely wanna revisit when I get the chance 🤤

10:12 Taiwanese table manner is very important to a Taiwanese in a formal dinner. It always shows your attitude, or education, or how this guy been raised up. It is similar to Japan's education.
For Taiwan's traditional table manner, you always lift up your bowl to your mouth. Even you use a spoon for the rice or soup, you lift up your bowl to your mouth. You never bend down your neck and back to the food on the table. This is very different to Western table manner.
Today, Taiwanese people may not be so serious to other people's table manner when they are having street food. Taiwanese are easy going, so they will not ask Foreigner to follow all the table manner in Taiwanese way. But it is always good to know some of them.
Another big offend that you never want to do is " Never put your chopsticks or spoon, or fork into rice bowl and make it upright. It means it is for dead people's food."
Yes in japan we also never ever stabbed our rice etc with the chopsticks like that!! And thank you for the Taiwanese table manners advice :)
The brunch cafe you visited in Zhubei was located in Hsinchu city before. Its space then was quite small, probably only 4~5 tables allowed. The cafe was so popular and always packed! It's quite sad for me the cafe moved to Zhubei~
Ahhh okay!! I wonder if they moved because they could have more tables and seating available in Zhubei 🤔
Here's another Canadian RUclipsr living in Taiwan, I think he has some quality content and might give you some traveling ideas in Taiwan: ruclips.net/user/VaansWorldvideos
He looks like he has some really great videos and footage !
Making new friends, got a wonderful beautiful place with extra space I remember you saying that you wanted more space in the kitchen looks like that came to fruition “you ask and you shall receive” as they say, Mr. T and Mrs. J are leveling up
You’re right, I did wish for more kitchen space!! And not I have a kitchen table. I have never owned one in all my years in japan 🥺♥️
OMG the envy I have for those wax apples, I’m pretty sure they are the same ones I used to eat when a I lived in Nicaragua( the Atlantic coast side) and they are delicious, I used to eat them when they were pink or almost red for the best flavor. Great vlog 😊
Yes I believe they are the same bc I’ve been told it’s there!! Sooo delicious ~
Hi Jen, how are u and T? I've been meaning to tell you how much I like the new apartment. It seems huge compared to the old one. Glad you seem to be enjoying Taiwan.
We are loving all the space!!
Southern Taiwan have many delicious food s
I think Carrefour is French, we used to have them here too! No idea they had them in Taiwai interesting
Believe so because two others said it’s French!! There are two in my city and they are *amazing*
I love everything about this video especially the bunny.
Mochi (the bunny) is soooo cute!
Girl, that green dress looked amazing on you! I love to see the different styles outside the US 😊
Ohhh did it!? I felt it hugged my belly too much 😅😂

It was def an exciting day for me!
Awesome!Like a adventure,isn’t it?
It really is :)
Can’t wait to explore more~
Also, I love the Mandarin pronunciation I'm looking forward to hearing native people speak in your videos 😂!!
Haha I hope to have some in here eventually !!
i love all the markets! the best!
Me too!
Hsinchu is an important center of Taiwan's technology industry and even the world's technology industry. A large proportion of the world's chips are produced there. So it is normal for the high-speed rail station to be very busy in the morning.
Your pronunciation is very good. Better than me as an ABC.
You’re being too kind lol 😂♥️
Hope you can keep uploading videos~~I like it~
I will! New one coming soon~
Glad to see that you are doing well in Taiwan. I am always impressed by your friendliness and receptiveness to new culture! Wax apples kind of look like small bell peppers? Do they taste like regular apples? Love your channel!
Am I friendly and receptive!?!? That gives me so much relief to hear, seriously !! 🥺♥️ Wax apples kind of taste like a mix between an apple and a pear, but watery like a watermelon.. if that makes sense lol
Awesome 😎 video Jenn......enjoyed seeing some of the new locations and ummm ok lol be honest how was that egg?? The rest of the food looked delicious and both coffee shops the food n drinks looked sooo delicious. Ohhhh by the way how can I make that banana milk drink? Sound really good....can’t wait for next video and I did t find it to long by the way.
The egg was totally fine! The only major different thing was the outside kind of the texture is like Jell-O but… I like Jell-O so 😂
@@LayersOfJenn .....ohh n how about the banana milk? Any idea how they make it...I’m kinda want to try it,and maybe make it myself.

@@LayersOfJenn of course!!! Also has your style changed at all ever since you’ve moved?
Clothing wise?? Not too much!
Gferylll
wax apple can be dipped in sugar or honey. Maybe you can try maple syrup.
Or you can also try the way of eating in southern Taiwan. dipped in garlic soy sauce. I heard that eating like this has a special taste. But I haven't tried it. I am not responsible.
Wow that all sounds so interesting!! I’m hoping to get to southern Taiwan soon so, hopefully I can find the garlic soy sauce version there 👌🏻
@@LayersOfJenn The same concept of sprinkling salt on watermelon. All you need is a little soy sauce and chopped garlic. Again, I am not responsible.

Hey Jenn! loved this vid. :) What's it like to be living back to a some what "normal life" over there since Taiwan has good control over Covid? I'm so jealous >_
It’s amazing and I’m thoroughly enjoying but I still think about everyone who cannot live like that.. 😔♥️
all the food you ate in this video looked sooo good!! Well, maybe not the egg but I would still be curious to try it! Definitely want to try the rose apple though! Are they just a Taiwan thing?
Rose apples are common in a lot of countries actually but I didn’t know about that until I started posting it on Instagram and everyone’s telling me that they have it too!
Ask your husband or friend to take you to Taiwan Quick Stir-fry, it's delicious! And spicy hot pot
In Taiwan, it's considered good manner and proper to always lift your bowl so you don't eat like a dog and you don't show the top of your head to your company. When you lift your bowl, you can always sit upright and look at whoever you are with.
Ahhh okay!! I wanted to make sure in the restaurant because I didn’t want to look worse than I already did (filming myself) 😅😅
No, it doesn't matter you lift up your bowl or put it on table. Table manners are casual in Taiwan.
@@weihanho9917 It is indeed pretty casual most of time. I did not say when you don't do it, you will be considered as having bad manner; instead, if you do do it, you will seem having a good manner. Make sense?
I did grow up in a family that when I didn't lift my bowl up while dining with elders, I got punished. I do believe it's still true today when you dine in a more former setting.
Subscribe! You make great videos! Please continue to make more videos!
Thank you 😭♥️

You can download the HSR App on your phone, and if you or your husband have a taiwan credit card, can buy business class tickets for the price of standard class ticket (to have this option need to use the app in chinese, if you set it up in english it wont give you the option).
