I just pulled the hammer on one of these. Paid well above msrp price but they are so hard to find anywhere, almost impossible. It was all your reviews that made me decide to buy this blade over the Spartan Horkos and Esee 6. I own the Winkler Field Knife but since it doesn't have enough jimping for my liking and it doesn't have a choil allowing me to choke up for detailed work, I am going to sell it. I wanted a bushcraft/survival/combat style knife that was robust but could also handle basic camp tasks like prepping meals and doing finer detailed tasks with the included choil on the blade. I know the blade is thicker but with everyone stating how it slices good due to the grind on it, I think this thing with serve me well. I feel the knife has a great finger guard and plenty of jimping to prevent my hand from sliding off the handle. I think I may buy a single Molle pistol pouch for the sheath and add a Victornox Farmer X Alox to it to complete all my small cutting needs. You explain basic concepts and have a logical explanation of what is important in a good blade. Thanks for all your advice and here's to you getting 20k followers soon! Your channel is very helpful with bushcraft/survival stuff.
I live near the ocean, and I picked this knife for the same reasons you did. I also travel to very humid and wet environments in Southeast Asia, and I take this knife with me. Is it an expensive knife? If you factor in fit, finish, knife materials, the high-quality Specs Ops brand sheath, the extremely durable KG Gun Kote and Chris Reeve's worldwide reputation of quality this knife is worth every penny.
I am considering to have a good looking knife that i could proud for, but also capable to take any hard use with minimal scratch. This knife could be the answer. Thanks for the review..
Hi just finally got see your video...its been somewhat crazy here in Anchorage, I hope you guys are ok ..the aftershocks are none stop..staying up and alert.
I'm with on a knife around water , rain , rivers and stuff like that . And a one knife or maybe two ,I all ways carry some kind of pocket knife . And speaking of stainless steel I just got me a Puma Bowie Just for that reason around water . Its the cheaper one but it will do for now . Its good to see you posting again .
Really been excited by your video. Just a bit confused about the s35vn steel. As far as I know the s35vn on Pacific is only 55-57 HRC. How do you feel about the edge retention? Did it get dull quickly?(compared with that used on Sebenza) I had some powder-steel folders and sharping them with bare hand had been a nightmare... Is this a bit easier to re-sharpen s35vn at this hardness?
To be honest, I really have not noticed a big difference in edge retention, however, it does seem to be easier to sharpen. However this knife and the sebenza do not get dull all that fast.
Totally agree with your take on the consumerism regarding having too many knives that don't get used. I was wondering if when you were choosing, considering what you went with, did you ever consider the Green Beret knife and if so why the Pacific got the nod. Apologies if you've already answered this somewhere.
Hey did you feel the earthquake over in Anchorage? I forget you get those in Alaska. What do you carry in the pack for maintaining your knife besides the leather belt?
Yuk don't like earthquakes they rank right up there with my irrational fear of moose. I think it was Zac Fowler that demonstrates a method of using silty clay/mud and a flattened brach to polish cutting tools
@@AlaskanFrontier1 the worksharp benchmade pocket maintenance sharpener is absolutely awesome it can fully sharpen and hone then strop a knife and it is about the size of a pen...
Fantastic review, I own a Falkniven A1 and have been looking for something with better steel. Now, the big question, do I get the Pacific in FDE or Black!
Hi Matt. Been a while. That's an awesome knife and expensive ! Do you still carry the Garberg now and then ? Even with the Pacific, it makes a great back-up for smaller stuff and the stainless 14c28n version is a good knife around water. My 2 mains are the Garberg and Bravo 1.25 , although if I carried only one ( never do , always 3-4).......it's the Bravo. Take care man , Pete
I keep 4 knives kabar turok kabar bk7 esee 6 and gerber prodigy. Yes the Walmart gerber. But boy is that fucking thing tough. Tough as nails. Absolutely best that thing down. Stan through metal hit with the back of an ax sometimes just everything and it’s just a beast. A beast.
@@AlaskanFrontier1 I say that is a probably factor. There are tons of options out there for the same range though. There's alot of barkrivers that are in the same price range
But the Pacific is not a real Survival knife it's a Soldier's knife. A real Survival knife has a more robust blade steel like a 1095 carbon steel. What do you think about the Tops Apache Falcon?
I can't find this knife ANYWHERE, i just found the 5.5 blade but it's absolutely the 7 that I'm interested in. If anyone could point me in the right direction to find the 7 PALEEZZE let me know.
great video...the only thing that kinda makes me mad about his fixed blades is you can't get one with a satin blade it's only available with that shitty coating DLC or Cerkoted or whatever it is...i don't understand almost everyone want's a nice satin blade on there bushcraft.. for that reason i have no interest in his fixed..i have a couple 21's though...
This is the SEXIEST blade i ever seen...Mine is flat dark earth and i dont use it for anything, just looking at it in the box makes me feel VERY happy...

That is so true!
Great review, honestly Chris Reeve Knives are made to work, kudos to you for not making it a Safe Queen!
Thank you! I make sure all my blades get used!
That CR pacific is the only knife you’ll ever need mine has been used so much and it’s still an amazing blade the wear on it makes it look even better
Very truthful.

@@AlaskanFrontier1 Thanks dude. Suppose I will add Pacific in my wish list.
Yeah I've got a bunch of blades but their in different places so it kinda depends on where I'm at and what I'm doing as to what blade I have at hand.
I see.
I got a pacific FDE because of the review
Wow, thank you!
Well I'm sold.
how do you like the fde finish vs the black ?

Great question. I honestly do not like the blade shape of the green beret
Thanks for the reply.
Is the handle hollowed out under the handle scales? Can never find a video where people actually use this knife. Thanks for posting.
Sadly, no, and even if it were, the handles are also epoxied on.
Awesome review, that is one nice knive!
Thank you!

Yeah I did. It was nasty for them though. At this point, just a small field sharpener. I am thinking of adding some polishing compound.

Yes, it still sees occasional use, but primarily I just use the Pacific.
I’m torn between the plain edge vs the serrated edge. Which do you recommend and why? Thanks
Is it easier to sharpen being ran at a softer hardness? Does it deform more? Seems odd to run it under 58rc.
Really, I can't see a difference. They seem to be the same in edge retention as a hardness of 60rc
@@AlaskanFrontier1 nice and I just bought one and you are the only guy I know who uses one. Any strength issues or chipping? Tip damage?

Hello, could you tell my why you chose the Pacific over the Green Beret? Thank You
Largest reason is the blade shape. The Green Beret is made with more of a dagger shape which makes it less useful for survival.
@@AlaskanFrontier1 Thank you so much for your response, your philosophy of mastering one knife really resonated with me. Great Work
@@marcocano335 thank you!!
@Connor Lynch I would agree. I think the blade design in the GB is too narrow. Really more designed to be a combat knife.

The keeping the knife in a fire is not so great idea...
It's a brilliant idea
I agree, it might change the crystal structure of the steel along with hardness.
