The ridiculous differences in software between your watches are inexcusable. You need to get your stuff together, simplify and unify the software. There's way too many watches and way too many silly differences - it makes choosing your watch so confusing!
Super tutorial! I just setup my 165 a couple of hours ago and you made it a lot easier on navigating through all the glances.I probably would never have noticed the additional detail available as depicted by the notches by the top right hand button.I'm coming from a 235 and got the 165 because of AMOLED.The only thing I don't like is the running only has 4 data fields.I looked on IQ and there's no 3rd party stuff that looks good.Great job and thanks!
Regret a bit not buying FR265. The FR165 works fine and I like it, but it lacks so many activities like snowboarding, rowing, inline skating, which are all available on FR265
just ordered my 965 a week ago, can't wait to replace my Galaxy 6. Battery life only last's me a bit over a day without using always on display and not using the watch at all for calls, running, tracking, or anything. If i listen to music, or do tracking the watch will go from 100% to 15% in less than 24 hours.
Thanks for the overview. I'm on my third Garmin watch. VivoActive HR and VivoActive 3 were my first two. There are a ton of features. It's going to take a while to customize the watch. 😀
My last Garmin watch add Auto detect for activities like walking and running. I can't seem to find that setting on this watch. Where can I find how to set that up. I can't seem to find it on their online manuals. thanks for the super detailed tutorial it was very helpful.
Just don't see the point why not including the skiing profiles on the FR165, having a barometer included and all. I realize this is supposed to be your entry/budget models. But you have to realize that the FR165 is not a budget watch in every country/region. In Norway the watch is more pricey (USD350) than in the US (USD245), and there are other brands offering this option for a similar or close price. If you add ski profiles this watch is interesting.
Hi! Question about 165 non-music, I’ve been curious why on the black FR165 in this video, the glances has a quick flash of color every time you scroll down. Mine doesn’t have that, it has a highlight at the side but it won’t flash throughout the glance. Do I have to configure something or does it have a setting that I need to change?
Thank you for the video. I recently purchased this watch and when it arrived I got 80% and it said 9days battery left. After using it for three days, the battery is down to 30% and I think it drains too fast. Seeing your video, it says 15 days with 85% and it seems like all of the features are on in your watch. I personally, use low brightness, no always on display and gesture but it still lower than yours. Can you please tell me how to increase battery life? Thanks!
Thank you for your comments and question. Sorry to hear you are not getting the battery life you were expecting. There are a lot of things that can affect battery life, specifically any activity that uses GPS. However, if you feel that you are getting an unusual battery life drain please reach out to our Product Support team at 800-800-1020 or support.garmin.com. They will be happy to troubleshoot to see if there are any underlying issues of concern.

I'm new to Garmin after many years owning a Fitbit. This entry level watch is what I'm looking for. I run 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons a couple of times a year. My question to you is, when it comes to GPS/tracking runs, does this model or any other Garmin model require having a phone with you on runs, cycling, etc?
Thank you for your question. Most Garmin watches have a GPS receiver built-in and do not require your phone to record GPS activities, like the Forerunner 165. With that said, some Garmin watches do not have a GPS receiver built-in and rely on a phone connection for GPS data. Below is a link that shows which Garmin smartwatches are "connected" GPS devices and will require a phone connection for GPS tracking. I am seriously considering a new watch and this one looks very intriguing. I am an avid cyclist and am wondering if this would be a suitable choice as it appears to geared toward running. Thank you
Thank you for your question. While the Forerunner 165 has a cycling profile and will provide training, planning, and analysis features for activities, it has limited cycling specific features. For an avid cyclist that wants a wearable, I would recommend looking at one of our multi-sport GPS smartwatches that will provide more insights for cycling. I included a link below. Awesome video, thank you! I got a question about the map feature. When you use the map, but choose a different data screen. Do you still see the direction with a little arrow while you are on a different data screen or do you have to reopen the map screen to see the direction?
Thank you for your question. Yes, the Forerunner 165 has an indoor cycling activity but not a jump rope activity. There are options for jump rope activities on the Connect IQ App Store that are compatible with the Forerunner 165.
Thank you for your question. To customize the units of measure for distance, pace and speed, elevation, etc.: 1. Hold UP. 2. Select System > Format > Units. 3. Select a measurement type. 4. I was shocked when I did not find a charger in the box ... you know ... to charge my new watch. I have to buy a USB C to USB A adapter to both charge it and connect it to my computer.
Can I choose RUclips Music as my favourite music provider? Will it run on 165? That is the deal breaker for me. Otherwise I will have to choose a non music version.
Thank you for your question. The Forerunner 165 does not currently support RUclips Music. The Connect IQ site for the RUclips Music app says "Support for more devices coming soon" so you may want to keep an eye out to see if/when the Forerunner 165 is added.
