If the park in Ely is having one of their many events, it is a great experience to check out what's happening and have some food from the onsite vendors there as well.
I've been to Ely 3 or 4 times and it has kind of become one of my favorite places.

Dorothy Molter was famous for her homemade root beer. She had hundreds of visitors each year. You forgot that part.

And, alas, she is deceased. But her root beer was great. I feel like they mentioned the relevant details.

Awesome video! I live near enough to Ely that this video can be the recipe for an excellent outdoors date! Can't wait to enjoy it! Is Gator's Grilled Cheese Emporium still there? Last I was in Ely, it was to log one of the few remaining Webcam Geocaches left in the States! It's not available any longer but it was a great trip with a friend, and we logged a few more caches there and at Pfeiffer Lake.

Haven't tried the Otter yet, but the menu at Insula is pretty good. Even though they stopped serving my favorite - The Disputed Island Burger - I would still recommend them. Also, a must stop would be the Brain Storm Bakery (creators of the infamous Crapola granola). And also, the new rejuvenated Front Porch. Cannot in good conscience recommend the Ely Steakhouse; not once have I had a good meal there. Also, stay away from the Stony Ridge, having a menu of a million burgers, which is really just the same severely over priced burger with some fancy sounding topping on it that looks and tastes as if it came from a can; absolute waste of money.

We tried the Frisky Otter when we were in Ely in July. They serve a lot of Chicago style hot dogs, Polish and Italian sausages, and roast beef and being from there, we were good critics. The food and service were good but the atmosphere was great. We sat outside and they had a one person live music band. It was very enjoyable while having dinner. Am definitely stopping there again next Summer.
