Fun Fact: Mark Hamill's face in this special was surgically removed and used in episode V for the Vader head prop on Dagobah. Double Fun Fact: Mark Hamill's eyelids were glued to his optic nerves so he looked awake during filming. Triple Fun Fact: Boba Fett chose to jump into the Sarlacc and begged its gastric juices for the sweet release of death after seeing the full special in which his debut cartoon was inserted
I don't think Carrie Fisher was necessarily unhappy filming this. According to a later interview, she was so high she has no memories of filming the special.
When Carrie Fisher was about to sing, I prepared myself for very hard cringe. Then it turns out she's a decent singer. I just kind did that thing where I furrowed my brow, bewildered that it existed at all.
I believe she used to sing on stage with her famous mom as a teenager, and I feel like the writers of this special wanted to use any talents their actors had just to fill time
I remember seeing this for the first and only time while on a charter bus during a middle school trip to Six Flags, and we were traveling at night and all of us were tired from spending all day at Six Flags, so the whole experience watching this was very surreal like a fever dream.
I've seen some other reviews of this, and I could never put my finger on what was off about Mark Hamill, but what you said is so true. He comes off as the mastermind of some grand, evil plan .
There's a bit in RLM's review of the Christmas special where they pinpoint the exact moment Harrison Ford realised he didn't give a shit about Star Wars
I have to admit that I actually laughed a lot during the part when the Wookie family made incredibly annoying noises for 7 minutes straight and when the mom watched the cooking show. I just found them so surreal, and the thought that people were involved in the making of this movie made it even funnier.
Ever thought about auditioning for a Wookie? I mean, you seem to be fluent enough to understand Wookies and with your hair you wouldn't even need a costume...
So you know how mmos will have special events where the world is decorated appropriately for the holiday in particular? Well Star Wars: The Old Republic celebrates Life Day from thanksgiving to New Years. You can also get Life Day robes like the Wookiees wore.
Rewatching this channel doesn't feel like rewatching it in a bad way. Rewatching it is like experiencing it again for the first time and loving it over again. I dunno it doesn't make sense but yea
I could never put my finger on why Luke's portrayal here was making me uncomfortable until your review. Somehow he gives me A Clockwork orange vibes. It has to be the eyes.
You just know the whole "Think it sucks living under the thumb of a brutal galaxy-wide dictatorship? Just be grateful you aren't living in THIS desert shithole" thing was Anakin's idea.
Quinton released a Christmas video in December? That's never happened before. I mean, Quinton is crazy late with his videos. He can't even manage to release a knockoff November video in November. So, how is he gonna go about making a Christmas video in December?
And now it's 2022, where The Star Wars Holiday Special has been referenced in The Mandalorian, gained a spiritual remake from LEGO (where Chewie's family cameos), and has Life Day often referenced as an in-universe holiday in other media.
lol i didnt think Luke sounded sinister, I just thought he was behaving like a kids entertainer talking in a tone like you would maybe an audience of children
Really appreciate the realistic and amusing explanation of Thanksgiving! Have a lot of respect for creators who don't make assumptions about who their audience is but also don't patronize those who are familiar with the subject.
Yeah, I’m 110% sure Carrie Fisher was high or on some serious drugs whilst filming her scenes. There’s is not a single shred of doubt in my mind. ...It’s those eyes, man.
not even joking, its a holiday tradition in my house to watch this movie along with all the other, actually good holiday movies. i've never understood what the plotline is.
Hey Quinton, did you know there were actually two more Star Wars movies that no-one knows about? They were both actually theatrically released and were called "The Ewok Adventure" (or "Caravan of Courage" internationally) and "Ewoks: The Battle For Endor". Yeah. They were both hilariously bad movies about the adventures of a human family stranded on Endor, but (unsurprisingly) they were not as bad as the original holiday special. Just thought you might like to know.
There are actually two notable Thanksgiving songs in the pantheon, but the earlier one, "Jingle Bells", is rarely performed in full with the references to the specific holiday in tact, resulting in it being treated as a Christmas or general late fall/early winter song in practice. Also it's actually a comedy song about being godawful at romantic sleigh rides, but again, people tend to cut that part out.
This special up until the point where the storm troopers come in is literally what it feels like to wait for people to come to your thanksgiving party. Disgusting
Here in Portland, Oregon, we used to have a video rental place called Clinton Street Video that had a copy of The Star Wars Holiday Special recorded from Baltimore area television when it originally aired.
I thought you had recorded a video in advance for a second when I saw a christmas hat im December. Never been so happy to be wrong. Never give me a properly timed themed video! It is better this way.
the accident happened in 1980 or late 79 actualy, hence why the wampa scene was added, explaining the scars on his face, aswell as a deleted scene showing hs face being healed
The first time I saw this a friend of mine got a bootleg. He happened to work for the school and got permission to use our chapel (which was once a movie theater) for a "movie night." I saw this with about 50 people on a movie screen. The laughter, the awkward moments...that was how it was intended to be seen. So ridiculous
One of my friends has a dog Named chewie (named after the character) so when my sister got his dogs son I begged her to name him Lumpy as a reference to this masterpiece of a movie. Of course she decided to name him Max, which is the most common Dog name in America, which sucks. I liked the idea of naming him Lumpy
I was 8 when I saw Star Wars in the theater, got the toys, etc.... yet I had no idea this special existed until recently with the YMS review. I don’t recall any promotions, reviews, TV Guide cover, anything. It must have barely been a blip on the radar back then. Either way, great review! You guys really should do a full commentary on it. :)
Same, and I still can't remember it from my childhood. When everyone was talking about the Lifeday reff in the Mandalorian, I was convinced they must be talking about the Muppet crossover until I found it. I literally have no memory of this, its like some kind of self enduced amnesia
You see, in most countries people don't have the money nor the time to go out and buy too much food. We save our money for other things, like everyday food, health insurance (while the country that I live in, Brazil, offers free medical services, we still have health insurance. it just puts you on a higher place of the line) and everything else that isnt excess food. That's why Thanksgiving is an exclusively 'Murican thing.
It's also because the holiday specifically celebrates an aspect of American history, kind of like the Fourth of July. Other western counties can afford a Thanksgiving, but it's a country-specific holiday.
Don’t forget the Ewok movies, also the R2-D2 and C3PO show, one of the first shows to have an openly gay couple, the mains characters, and the Ewok show.
I see the recent things this guy has released and cannot begin to understand how real physical human beings with developed prefrontal cortexes can watch this man for 5 minutes, leave 8 hours.
Fun Fact: An offical Star Wars story called "Death Troopers", a story about a zombie virus, has a scene where Chewbacca has a vision of his family from the holiday special and it implies that he killed them all when he was turned into a zombie. So, I guess thats why we never heard from Chewbacca's family for a while.
If anyone ever tells you The Last Jedi "ruined" Star Wars because it was a bad film, refer to this movie and say, "By that logic, Star Wars was dead all the way back in 1978."
The interracial, interspecies VR Wookie Porn is a groundbreaking moment in TV history and should be celebrated as such.
Nerd City what your here ... Net neutrality is dead.
Trying to get into Quintons mind... think it twice, he has seen really horrible shit
can I call you daddy?
Dude, you’re on like... every youtuber I enjoy watching. How did it take me so long to watch your stuff and realize how great it was?
Nathan Wilkins - thanks man! We must just have similar tastes
i love how every single person thinks Chewbacca's son Lumpy is suicidal when he climbs on the railing lmao
Ben Masta well what else would you think he was doing on a railing?
I'd wanna die if I was in that movie...
Quinton hearted your comment. Does it feel good?
Guy I printed out a screenshot of it and tattooed it on my face, and then changed my FB relationship status to "married"
4th fun fact. Bobba's alive.
"As god as my witness, I thought Storm Troopers could fly."
Well I've got some good news for you now, Han.
I don't think Carrie Fisher was necessarily unhappy filming this. According to a later interview, she was so high she has no memories of filming the special.
I want Quinton to dub the entirety of the star wars holiday special
I'm fed up with this world
ahm fed ahp whith this wehrowd
1 million subscriber special
Finally, a video that fits my monitor.

Watching this in 2020 knowing very well that Star Wars media has recalled Life Day at least once. We now live in the ultimate hellscape.
I remember seeing this for the first and only time while on a charter bus during a middle school trip to Six Flags, and we were traveling at night and all of us were tired from spending all day at Six Flags, so the whole experience watching this was very surreal like a fever dream.
a day of peace, a day of loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I've seen some other reviews of this, and I could never put my finger on what was off about Mark Hamill, but what you said is so true. He comes off as the mastermind of some grand, evil plan .
Lots of makeup+ done with life= Mark Hamill Joker
Two years later, and it is actually being slyly referenced in modern Star Wars.
Thanks Jon Favereau. Very cool.
New video in 4:3, yayyy
I tweeted Harrison Ford once about this movie and how much it sucked and he liked it, he hates this damn thing lol
Not his fault****
There's a bit in RLM's review of the Christmas special where they pinpoint the exact moment Harrison Ford realised he didn't give a shit about Star Wars
He hates Han Solo anyway
"If I had the time and a sledgehammer I would find every copy and destroy it"-goerge lucas
He literally refused to talk about it in some interviews.
I have to admit that I actually laughed a lot during the part when the Wookie family made incredibly annoying noises for 7 minutes straight and when the mom watched the cooking show. I just found them so surreal, and the thought that people were involved in the making of this movie made it even funnier.

i was about to share my disappointment that you uploaded on time- but you didn’t fail me! thanks quinton!
A star wars movie about wookiees is like a movie about minions...oh wait :(
I think a comic centering around Chewie and Han's journey to Kashyyk with an epic dogfight and character development could be actually kinda cool.
Haitch Cue Zed I really hope something great happens to you because of this
Technically this is a thanksgiving video
Yer mun
Losers Incorporated That's the joke.
A sentient box and that is also the joke
And now it's 2022, where The Star Wars Holiday Special has been referenced in The Mandalorian, gained a spiritual remake from LEGO (where Chewie's family cameos), and has Life Day often referenced as an in-universe holiday in other media.
This by far the funniest review of The Holiday Special I’ve ever seen 😂 Also, I laughed out loud at the unexpected WKRP reference. Well done!
in tthat shot of plan 9, the shadow of the boom mic is plainly visible hilarious
Holy shit, I can finally watch a video in full screen on my 4:3 monitor! It IS a Christmas miracle!
I don't have the money for one.
lol i didnt think Luke sounded sinister, I just thought he was behaving like a kids entertainer talking in a tone like you would maybe an audience of children
Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Homie that’s a thanksgiving film that’s great.
Come on, dont send caleb out in the cold. He might have some weird views about the "greatness" of shia lebeouf, but he makes good popcorn doesnt he?
Really appreciate the realistic and amusing explanation of Thanksgiving! Have a lot of respect for creators who don't make assumptions about who their audience is but also don't patronize those who are familiar with the subject.
The only good thing about this special: Leia singing
RIP Carrie😭
Yeah, I’m 110% sure Carrie Fisher was high or on some serious drugs whilst filming her scenes.
There’s is not a single shred of doubt in my mind.
...It’s those eyes, man.
Yes she was actually high while filming this. Before her death, she said she has no memories filming or having anything to do with this shit pile.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles is the best Thanksgiving movie.
21:00 LOL! "WKRP in Cincinnati" reference. That's a deep-ass cut right there Quinton.
Had my thanksgiving at a strip club buffet and now I have a rash, in the back of my throat. Nice beard man
Apperntly Carrie Fisher would not do this thing unless she got to sing.
Intentional sabotage or did she think it was a good idea?
And then she smoked her throat away so it could never happen again.
That's a pretty good litfamfilms sweater you got there Quinton.
25:50 I see George finally tracked down a copy
About damn time.
not even joking, its a holiday tradition in my house to watch this movie along with all the other, actually good holiday movies. i've never understood what the plotline is.
Mark's acting in this reminds me of "Whaaaat? Noo" from The Happening
“Jingle Bells” was actually originally a Thanksgiving song, but held popularity so long that it carried on to Christmas and stuck with that holiday.
To be honest, Bea Arthur’s bit is probably the best part. They even use her character again in some of the books.
As a Brit, my mind is blown that this is a Thanksgiving film. I honestly always thought it was Christmas.
Hey Quinton, did you know there were actually two more Star Wars movies that no-one knows about? They were both actually theatrically released and were called "The Ewok Adventure" (or "Caravan of Courage" internationally) and "Ewoks: The Battle For Endor".

It makes me very happy Bea Arthur has her very own page on the Star Wars Wiki!
This special up until the point where the storm troopers come in is literally what it feels like to wait for people to come to your thanksgiving party. Disgusting
"The Star Wars Holiday Special is the only well known Thanksgiving movie"
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: 👁️👄👁️
Very nice touch including a picture of threepio when talking about their facial expressions.
Here in Portland, Oregon, we used to have a video rental place called Clinton Street Video that had a copy of The Star Wars Holiday Special recorded from Baltimore area television when it originally aired.
Your videos bring me back to a day where RUclips felt more home.
Surprise Quinton? I was watching another video and then was taken to this. It's a glorious surprise.
Planes Trains & Automobiles is both a good movie and definitely themed around Thanksgiving.
there is 1 other thanksgiving movie
the one where they go BACK IN TIME TO THE FIRST THANKSGIVING TO GET TURKEYS OFF THE MENU-
I just now realised Quinton could pull off a fairly convincing George Lucas cosplay
Umm did you forget about the Charlie Brown thanksgiving special, that is way more famous than the Star Wars holiday special.
Matthew A how the fuck does everyone forget about Planes Trains and Automobiles?!?
@@plasticwrapcharlie Isn't that a Christmas movie?
@@Laurabeck329 I'm pretty sure they're on their way home for Thanksgiving.
This Christmas special snuck up behind me and stole my spine.
Oh yes, finally, a Quinton Reviews I can watch on my 2 Inch CRTV
I desperately need that clip at 3:53 as a separate upload. It’s a work of art in its own right.
I thought you had recorded a video in advance for a second when I saw a christmas hat im December. Never been so happy to be wrong. Never give me a properly timed themed video! It is better this way.
0:00 "I know what you guys are thinking right now..."
Man I wasn't even thinking
This is a Great Birthday gift Quinton thank you.
The Paul is dead joke really got me
I want to see you guys' full reactions to this

Remember when IHE almost died watching this?
White nationalist: Remember when Jontron almost died watching this?
Hack Fraud: Remember when Red Letter Media almost drink themselves to death watching this? Now something I enjoy more is Ishtar.
Thank you for explaining thanksgiving
That WKPR joke. I will never be able to escape it, I swear to god...but it gets me every time

This was someone's first star wars movie... Just think about that for a second.
25:50 THE SACRED TEXTS!
I was 8 when I saw Star Wars in the theater, got the toys, etc.... yet I had no idea this special existed until recently with the YMS review. I don’t recall any promotions, reviews, TV Guide cover, anything. It must have barely been a blip on the radar back then.

Probably your best review so far, Quinton
You see, in most countries people don't have the money nor the time to go out and buy too much food. Oh we can't afford it either, we're just stubborn like that
On the other hand, Spain has a massive wasteful tomato food fight holiday, so...
man, if an italian attends that he'd go meatballs
I thought you were being silly about the Tomato holiday but uh. You weren't..
So we are all just forgetting about Planes ,Trains, and Automobiles now?
"There could be all kinds of odd tangent continuity references to this"
the mandalorian: its free real estate
I'm actually going to force me Uncle to watch this if he causes trouble his Christmas.
3:53 I nearly woke up my neighbours by laughing so hard
I thought Planes Trains and Automobiles was the definitive Thanksgiving movie:
Oh shit it's Caleb
Don’t forget the Ewok movies, also the R2-D2 and C3PO show, one of the first shows to have an openly gay couple, the mains characters, and the Ewok show.
im sorry w h a t was that about them being a couple
i legitimately can’t tell if that’s a joke
Nice jacks films shirt
I actually made my friends sit through this two days ago for a holiday party. Then I found out another group is planning on doing that
Um bud? What about Planes, Trains & Automobiles?
Canadia Leaf I still have flashbacks
The secret to Thanksgiving is to be very chill, make your home look folksy, focus on the food, and watch movies
PLANES. TRAINS. AND AUTOMOBILES.
Fun fact, that car accident is also why Luke gets smacked in the face immediately in Empire.
Love the ending with the bonfire!
I see the recent things this guy has released and cannot begin to understand how real physical human beings with developed prefrontal cortexes can watch this man for 5 minutes, leave 8 hours.
Woah, you’re at 184k subs? Last time I checked, you were at like 10k, fucking hell dude! Great job!
Nice 'Jingle my bells' shirt :)
