Interesting video, and timely too. There is plenty of anxiety and stress to go around for just about everybody right now, but then there is hardly a time that there isn't. You mention that you aren't a psychologist or a doctor, well, I am a doctoral level geriatric psychologist - retired, and let me tell you, that does not make me or any other medical or mental health professional immune to stress and the negative effects of it. Your strategy that you mention is right on target for immediate management of anxiety. I particularly like that you distinguish the next "right" thing to do. There are plenty of unhelpful or non-productive things to do (spin in circles or head for the bottle), but as you say, it is extremely helpful to engage physically in an easy, productive task that takes your mind out of the anxiety/obsessing loop. Taking a shower is a great one because of the whole body experience of it. I find that sometimes just doing the dishes, or cleaning up the kitchen counters is very distracting and almost immediately rewarding. Also, since the election particularly, and all the other awful things going on from mystery drones to street assassinations, I have severely limited watching the news. It is so easy to get sucked into that rabbit hole of non-stop distress addiction that it creates a constant background of generic anxiety. Essentially, I can do nothing about these events. How much do I need to expose myself to them over and over? I stay informed, but I will not immerse myself in it for no reason. There is also a widely used and actually very helpful grounding technique which I use myself and am always somewhat surprised how well it works. There are several variations of it, but essentially it involves a calming technique called "5-4-3-2-1". It's simple: 5 - LOOK. Look around you and say out loud five things that you can see (chair, cat ,etc.). 4 - FEEL. Think of your body and say out loud four things that you can feel (the cushion I'm sitting on, my feet on the floor, etc.). 3 - LISTEN. Say out loud three things that you can hear (the rain outside, the sound of your breath, etc.). 2 - SMELL. Say out loud two things that you can smell (candle burning, the cat box, etc.). 1 - TASTE. Say out loud one thing that you can taste (toothpaste, lunch, etc.). If you can't immediately taste or smell or hear anything, just say out loud some things that you could if it was actually there. Follow this by taking a few deep breaths. Then, go do the next "right" thing. This sounds so simplistic but it actually does work by refocusing your attention away from your mental stress loop to your immediate, real, tangible environment. Much like the concept of "mindfulness". Also, it is helpful to remember that high anxiety, particularly panicky feelings don't last. You will feel differently in a half hour, or a day, or a week. Maybe it sounds silly, but I also have a comfortable porch rocker that I will retreat to at time of stress, and the rocking motion tends to ease anxiety too. Simple, but it works - and you don't need a prescription! Then of course there are our beloved "fur children". The simple pleasure of petting a cat (or dog, or iguana, whatever) while it sleeps in your lap is pure anti-anxiety. Hope this might help.

Your sharing of your feelings helps all of us feel we are not alone and I thank you for that. I love your resilience and determination! AND, I love your innovative spirit. It demonstrates, especially to we who are single women, that we can be courageous and self sufficient in so many ways. However…by sharing with us…you are creating a wonderful sense of community. Right there with you ! Since November I have carefully curated my internet feed. No more news that isn’t local and even then I’m not consuming much. I’m focusing on my community and doing the next right thing. It’s not sticking my head in the sand… I am acutely aware of what I’m refusing to participate in. My efforts are just better spent focusing on love, kindness, justice, empathy and inclusion. ❤

I’m 74 and used to have panic attacks. When I retired I stopped watching the news (except for snippets), read my Bible more, and watched/read only “wholesome” things. Many of my friends say they are afraid for the world. I’m sad and have occasional anxious thoughts. But because of my faith I am at peace most of the time. Thank you for saying “do the next right thing.” That has helped me in the past and I need to be reminded of it. Kudos for your projects!

I have turned off the news since the election. I had to isolate myself from it to keep my sanity. I can't control what is going on, but I can remove myself from it as much as possible.
I am focusing on family, friends, and my fur baby. Trying hard to help others the best I can, too.

Taking your day one step at a time makes perfect sense. I found my blood pressure and anxiety level rising every time I watched the news so I stopped watching the news. Your project was a very clever idea.
Regarding anxiety, I have a somewhat similar strategy : I focus on the here and now. For me, a big part of the anxiety comes from anticipating things. And those things are mostly scary, difficult, overwhelming.
But here and now, I am safe. Most of what I dread never happens. And for the few difficult things that do happen, I notice it is always easier to deal with them than what I had anticipated, because I find solutions as the problem arises.
I wish you a wonderful time with Shiloh and happy holidays.

Hi Adelina, That’s a great strategy you described, particularly as it roots you in the present moment, which often is something an individual can control. A few strategies I’ve been practicing: minimize if not stay away from the news, which tends to lean to the negative occurrences; minimize time spent on social media; and go outside when I feel anxious, if just for a moment, because the fresh air has the effect of taking me out of myself. Thank you for acknowledging that these are very difficult times!

Best thing that helps me is stay away from listening to the media….especially Social Media.. in most things, these are things I can’t do anything about…. You are absolutely correct…. Focusing on things you can do something about makes all of the difference 😊….I have a Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 and I love it …it is only around 40 lbs but also has a handle which makes it so easy to move around … great solution for what you are dealing with…I actually put casters on my coffee table that can be used as a desk and I can now move it to wherever it works best….Have a wonderful holiday!

Sorry to hear about your anxiety Adelina. I am glad you have some coping strategies.
    Here are some of mine:
We immigrated to Canada because we wanted to move away from violence and crime. We realize paradise is not here on earth, so when things are rough and we feel like drowning, we count our blessings instead... Besides the fact that we feel safe now, I am also genuinely grateful I have a bed to sleep in. That I have food to eat. (Think basics. Things that we take for granted over time...)
I also don't watch any news on TV, but I do follow headlines. Changes happen all the time. Regimes come and go...
My faith is what helps me to feel supported and not alone. I know not to put my trust in kings and princes but in a Higher Power who is in charge of my life. No matter the circumstances. (It does change your perspective and makes you feel looked after no matter what.)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Aren't animals awesome they help us to stay in the present moment as that's what they do. They don't care about what happened yesterday or what is going to happen tomorrow, they live in this moment.
It's a difficult concept for some, but like you said about focusing on the next thing. It helps with the overwhelm.
A favourite quote of mine that came to mind during your chat was to 'Observe, not Absorb' (google search if u like this quote, I printed one out for my fridge).
My children now point to the quote on the fridge if I start getting caught up with taking on other people's thoughts and anxieties (probably being so empathic also). It grounds me quite quickly and reminds me that I can love and support others without carrying their load too.
Blessings to you and all who watch your channel!

I really enjoy watching all of your videos and so rarely comment on youtube videos, however I really think you are right in your approach to anxiety and stress, especially this time of year and what's been going on recently. I personally find that loving my pets, brushing them, petting them and snuggling is such a good way to de-stress in anxious moments when you just want some calm in your life. Most importantly turn that tv and phone off! It's really important to stay informed about world events, but we are bombarded with negativity like never before 24/7 with all the devices we have. Love one another and be kind. My question to Shiloh, what's it like having a mom that's a RUclips sensation?😃 Happy Holidays!

Often my next right thing is to eat, which I forget when I’m anxious. I like having a list so I can do something easy when I have low energy, or a quick thing when I have a short amount of time. It’s amazing how good it feels to watch things get taken off the list.

Hi Adelina, Thanks for another helpful and enjoyable video with Sophie, the super fluffy star! I loved your ingenious idea to use cutting boards and rollers for transporting your bluetti's. You asked for ideas how we cope with anxiety and panic attacks. My main go to is reading the Bible and praying daily. Giving God my cares and worries. As a Christian, that's what helps me the very most. To keep my mind on something positive. I journal daily as well, how the day went and if having challenges, I write myself coping strategies for the situation. I also find humming or softly singing or singing silently just inside my heart, favorite songs, as I go about my day, really helps keep me grounded and upbeat, and peaceful. I like your helpful tip too, to focus on the next thing. I will practice that too. You are a great inspiration to me Adelina and I wish you and Shiloh a most wonderful Christmas break together! Looking toward to your next visit with us!! ❤😊Sue

Cutting boards and casters. Genius. You are one of the most resourceful people I "know." As far as the "do the next right thing," that was advice I'm willing to bet many of us needed to hear. My husband and I are Americans in Bulgaria at present. It's a wonderful country, but navigating it when you don't speak the language can be anxiety-inducing; To top it off, we had a weird experience with an AirBnB host yesterday (creepy man with cameras in his house!) that has left me feeling "off" for 24 hours. This video was so soothing. And your advice spot on.
The one thing I tell myself when I'm having an anxiety episode is "this isn't real." For me, most of the anxiety I have is self-generated. More often than not, telling myself, "this isn't real," while breathing is enormously helpful. (Of course, that only works of the anxiety isn't real; if there is a tiger chasing me, I'd better run like hell, cuz he's real! 😀) But in reality, creepy AirBnB guy is behind us and there's no way he can continue to harass, because I've blocked him everywhere and reported him. End of real problem... letting his creepy aura invade my psyche any longer is just giving away my power.
And then there are my cats--who are godsends in the stress-relieving department! (And I loved it when Sophie came running down the stairs. What a cutie.)

@ Thank you. Im currently dealing with anxiety for the first time in my life at 52. You came up on my feed a couple times and i remember thinking you kind got the vibe I want to have with the whole minimalist tiny house vibe. Im going to have to catch up on the past vids but its been nice getting to experience your journey with you so far.

I have a trans family member so was pleased to hear about your daughter and I, too have panic and anxiety disorder. I've loved your channel since early days and now have even more reason to enjoy! Thank you for the idea for my chonky kitty's carrier which I cannot carry when she is in it. I'll try to put the cutting board dolly to use with that. As Sophie came down the stairs at the beginning of the video -even before you saw her- I said "Meowmy is talking and it must be to me so I have to go see what she wants!" :) Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄🎁

Learning to recognize when I'm anxious/scared/worried / etc. is sometimes hard for me, but when I do manage it I immediately stop and take as many deep slow breaths as I need to feel like I can move on. I love your reminder about breaking down decisions to the "next right thing" and am going to try to remember that as well. Have a wonderful time with Shiloh!

Hi Adelina, I forgot a really important favorite help when I feel anxious...I keep a little rock in my pocket or pick one up off the ground, and I can feel it and focus on its textures and shape and fidget with it. It really helps ground me as I focus on the rock and it takes my mind off my troubles. And noone needs to know it's in my pocket calming me! I learned about that technique once in a workshop about dealing with anxiety. ☺ ❤Sue

I love your cutting board invention and will try to make one for my Jackery power station. I also love your “next right thing” plan. As someone with depression and adhd, I do exactly this same method but now it has a name! I also like the phrase “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.” This phrase means that getting something you don’t love done, no matter how well you do it, is better than getting nothing done because your execution of the task won’t be “perfect.” You always make my day with your positive attitude and sense of humor. Thank you for sharing that with us!

When I had a very hard phase panic attack depression last year ,I feel I get finally better after months now and daily I felt better by practices that help me ,as getting up focus, opening window coffee at window even if cold few minutes eat, get dress, and I forced me to go out even just for a walk, keep the house clean by phases, not in a day but keeping the orden globally in house, focusing on what depends on me. And letting go as I can the mind about others external situations and do my best for what I can do and trust the universe that do the rest, is key. Gratitude for the gifts in the way. And when feeling not fine walking is therapy and save me to empty mind as I could, and doing concrete things as washing the plates, clean the carpet,do the bed, it seem basic things but when not feeling fine all is felt enormous ,so back to the moment only help me so much to focus back to the moment and give me feeling of satisfaction as it depends on us and can see quickly the result fast ,dishes done, yep it boost to feel to do a bit more and so step by step, while accepting when too tired to rest, face the emotion as it as a key to heal too, but not blocking on self sabotaging to repeat in mind what I did, what I should do etc , I still have this but I keep on go walking and force me to organise my nest to be cosy and feel better to take back my work projects as I did not do work projects for a while, I was physically too tired , and had an accident then ,but I healed thanks to god, and now I feel still to have to reinforce my bases but we will be all OK.it is phases, let's focus on gratitude of the moment ,when we achieve to get up , get dress is key base, courage to everyone , we are stronger then we think , feeling a lot is a divine gift... So it is our superpower that we have to learn to manage balance as the world is against natural ryhtm for that we are feeling that way, we are OK and are fine has been my click moment that finally I am just natural flow,it is society that create too much pressure, so I am OK and so I feel we have to love embrace réalise we are precious pure souls and to shine real, even if it is against social ryhtm. Is our mission just to feel to be our own self and that is fine if we need to cross the emotions as we feel deep and so... With no jugement of others but first of our self ❤ sorry if some words are not well expressed in English and I wish not to offend anyone, I know it is not so easy, courage hug to everyone ,we will find share our keys technics and be supportive overcome find balance tips ways to flow lighter everyone lovely souls here 🙏💫❤️

A great session!!! As they always are in fact. I appreciate the way you figured out how to make a dolly cheaply rather than pay heaps for one. And yes, such good advice for anxiety. One of my versions of 'do the next thing' is, when I wake and dont want to get up and face the day I give myself a period of down time first. usually it is ' Read until, say, 8am, and then get up and do ..... That works for me. Plus, i note things that have to be done, and are overwhelming me, in my phone calendar so I can let them drop from my mind knowing I wont forget them. Always happy when I see a new session from you appear. Happy days.

I agree with you 💯. Since having a stroke right at the beginning of COVID lockdown I don't need any more stress to add to my anxiety. I knew Adelina would always come up with something quick and simple that wouldn't break the bank. I saw the casters sitting on top of the Bluetti . Adelina's got a plan...she came through as always!😮😊🎉

Right on re focusing on getting one thing done at a time. That is how i roll. Right now ive got to dress for going out to the wood shed & making trips back & forth with wood (in deep snow). Great solution for moving those "suckers" around! I was waiting for you to use a driver instead of manually struggling with screwing...😃. Have a lovely holiday with your daughter. 🧚🙏🐾

What a great idea. I had a project of putting felt on a curved broad to put in front of the fireplace. Well the nails were longer then the board. Da! I had little holes in my contour top. It was light colored so I used white out to fill in the holes. It worked great. Try to ignore the crazy world and concentrate on the local world. Peace and prayers.
