Outages persist as crews work to restore service after devastating western Washington storm

- A deadly "bomb cyclone" battered western Washington this week with strong, gusty winds and rain, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of residents across the region.
The storm that reached the Puget Sound area Tuesday night knocked out power to over 650,000 customers during the peak of the outages. More than 184,000 residents were still without power early Friday morning.
Most of the remaining outages Friday were Puget Sound Energy customers.
PSE said the heaviest damage from the storm was in King County, which was the hardest hit area. The utility company said on its website that it expected power to be restored to a majority of customers in King County by noon on Saturday.

Thanks PSE for the hard work! Ours just came back on!
PSE didn't maintain all power lines properly and no emergency plan at all.
Many states have no power outage even when wind speed is higher
with such high property taxes across WA, anyone would expect this useless government officials to start having electricity wires laid underground in these areas where trees fall all the time due to the large amount of them getting older and weak.
Those billions of property tax go into rainbow sidewalks
Tell us you're MAGA without telling us you're MAGA.
It's up to PSE and local governments. PSE would have to drop a few dozen mil to take crap off poles and run new lines and install infrastructure. All that requires permits, right-of-ways, and the will to actually spend that money.
@@immortalasirpa6006 gosh, you’re so cringe man
Yeah, tell us all about the MAGA plan for infrastructure.
Oh, wait. Your President-elect can't even spell "infrastructure".
I want to give a huge huuuuuge thank you to the utility electric workers!!!!!! You guys are awesome ❤turn around times have been fast - even for low priority areas like mine!
I live at downtown and unaffected but I have friends all over the Seattle area and so many ... Bellevue, Burian, all still in the dark 4 days later.
*Seattle is a wild and wacky weather area and I applaud all workers getting everyone back online!!*
Storms like this is why I have supplies for a week of no power. My kids would hate it but they would be fed and warm.
Feel terrible for the grocery store owners who lost so much inventory from the outage. The margins on groceries are razor thin.
Thanks for the hard work guys! Thank ur local lineman!!

@joshuacgeo PUD got our power up right away.
@@joshuacgeo Well Josh. You better get on it and fix it all.
Thankyou for all the hard work! We were so excited today when the lights came back on!❤

Re the survey about power companies' ability to handle mass disasters: the only choice is to bury the utility lines. Expensive, but necessary. Even if just half the total number are buried. Also, these human beings are working as efficiently and safely as they can to get neighborhoods' power back up up and running. How about a little grace for them?
It might work to plan for electric wires to be put underground for new properties. It's probably a massive undertaking to retro-actively do the work. That said, power lines that are prone to be hit might be worth to bite the bullet and do it.
I live in a neighborhood with underground power cables and our power is out.
HaHaHaHaHa sweetie
You should come up to Mirrormont south of Issaquah we have 650 houses and at least 150 people have trees on their houses, roads are blocked, no power or water for awhile.
the root ball of that down 15 feet tall tree seems to be way too shallow
Especially near coast the bedrock is lurking just beneath the thin topsoil. My coastal sequoia have interlocking roots and trace along like big snakes.
Saw the linesman working my neighbor hood in Anacortes coming home from work. On by dark....whew!
Unsung heroes! Also all the workers who removed the down trees.

Its wild to see our infrastructure get worse and worse even when paying record prices. A decent chuck of western Wa lost power for days over 60-80mph winds over the course of a few hours. This is embarrassing in 2024. The winter hasn't even started.
A certain orange-faced, sub-par, soon-to-be-re-stored-to-power president erased the precedent of truth and declared global warming a "hoax" and those sub-literates that gave him their vote just remained stupid and hoped for this island they occupy to stay afloat.

3 days after 80 mph winds, I have power again. thank you PSE Workers!
Remember 80moh winds are common in many states and they don't lose power. My shingles are rated for 140mph for a reason.
@rocketdogticker does your state have the amount of trees we do? Houses, roads and power lines built in heavy woods?
@MRblazedBEANS many of those states have trees they just have regular maintenance for landscaping. Here in Washington we allow dead trees to stay up, Widowmaker to swing in the wind. If you're familiar with Issaquah and the Taco Bell there then you wouldn't be surprised to know that there were four trees on it.
The problem is the thought process in this state has grinded to a complete halt, the traffic is proof of that.
In Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, and DC, >90% of people get their power back after 24 hours of an 80 MPH storm event. 3 days still isn't fast enough (granted, that's still better than Houston after Beryl in July 2024, which took 5-10 days).

This shows us how mother nature can take us out at any point. It shows us why fighting over things like politics, race and so on is just a way to keep us a part when we need to support each other.
Power went out on Tuesday at 3:47pm before the peak of the windstorm and still no power, no estimated restoration time and not a PSE truck in the area!!!!!!
PRAYERS for all the service crews helping to get the power restored. You all are awesome!!!

I have been telling my neighborhood that we need to cut those tress years ago. But we have tree natural loving people in the east side.
But you have had the trees blown down 4U and you're free 2B natural hating people on the EZ2H8 side.
I live just off Front St in Issaquah and we’ve been without power since the cyclone hit. No heat or hot water. Been relying on wood burning in fireplace to get some warmth.
Why was the city not prepared for this? We knew this was coming.

NC and Tennessee still have over a thousand people unaccounted for after seven weeks. There's no help. Mud slides up on top of the mountains . Houses and communities are gone. Thousands lost their homes and are businesses are gone- washed away that there's nothing there. There's only one cadaver dog that's owner is a volunteer. 30' piles of debris where a plastics plant was is being mulched.. Thousands of volunteers went home. Hundreds are still helping. There was plenty of interference from ' people' that should have been in charge. Bridges and roads were washed away. Chimney Rock North Carolina got a lot of attention , but hundreds of miles look like that. My heart goes out to people here , but Florida , Georgia ,SC ,NC , and Tennessee still need help. They need generators. This is worse than Catrina in many ways. No homeless will be accounted for. Devistating
Thanks, my power back schedule push back to next Monday night🎉
No Thanksgiving at home? Idaho linemen could get this done in a few days. Politicians just don't want to pay overtime so it doesn't come out of their laundering operation
It looked like Molly was trying not to laugh when he kept saying Bomb Cyclone.
Especially when everyone knew it's really a typhoon, since folks know global warming's a made-up "hoax" that doesn't blow down oaks and evergreens.
A bunch of people that did not pay any attention to their parents about how to recognize danger all living on the same block. These things happen.
We're approaching unprecedented turbulence times. So we need to buckle up and be obedient servants. In order to be brought closer to God and one another. Meanwhile, we pray like our lives depend on it until God's mercy falls through for us. 😔 ❤
Yes
How does this compare with the Colubus Day storm?
It's not misspelled.
They used to just call these wind storms
There be no power on Sunday storms on its way😮
We see the storm coming so why did the govt did nothing in advance ? Again it is up to the community and PSE do all the work ! Florida governor think about the citizen ahead . Our government did nothing . What a disappointment ! Over 700k power less . Continue disappointment of the government.
Continue denying global warming.
Every time a breeze blows thru WA trees break and ruin power lines. About time for the geniuses at PSE to begin routing lines underground. Is that too hard? Apparently so!
The guy that compared it with a hurricane has no clue what he is talking about about
Since it's really a typhoon he is talking about, about which he knows next to nothing, and he's avoiding mention of global warming despite it's proof proof
Going on to 5th day with no power
Maybe it's time PSE start 3 eight hour shifts... 24/7?
She’s in Sammamish. CLose maybe.
I can hear your but all I see is a black screen.
Oh..., probably due to the power outage.
I can see your "but all I see" is a lil' icy, as I see what you say you saw here, on a black screen, too, and I raise you one "on what device are the "sounds" emanating from, what's its' power source, and how do you see a screen at night in a powerless space?" Do you see what I see? Dew UC wood IC? Rum pa pub rum.....
When are they going to bury the power lines like most other developed countries
In my area of bothell we lose power 3 to 4 times a year 2 days is normal for rhe power outage they finally started putting the power lines under ground. What makes it hard, costly and take for ever is they have to do it into streets. Private property laws are strong and people don't like high voltage line buried threw their property, so they have to do it on public streets. They started in April and are about 20% done
@@MRblazedBEANS ah I see. So it’s not just about the cost but also have to do with property laws. Over time, I think burying and having a robust grid would pay off. Think of all the manpower and the repair costs they have to deal with every winter. I’ve never heard of having backup generators until I moved to Seattle
Haven’t seen 1 PSE worker yet.
Don't stare at your screen and you just might. And bring a camera to prove 2 yourself when you've seen 1 (or more, aka a crew) and 4 your neighbors when they deny and argue w/you.

Weather modification
Those that control the weather control the population
Weather as a w+open is illegal.
Whether legal or not, labeling global warming a mere h-o-a-x is illusional.

What do democrats and puget sound energy customers have in common?
they’re both without power!
Storm ? These softy Washingtonians never seen a storm
Only a misplaced typhoon or two, and so you say these hardly-known "Washingtonians" never seen nor saw as awesome a storm as or like U of experience have and sew ewe right off while misspelling what they're seeing as less than the scene U seen, to which I reply, not deny, when I laid eyes on your icy, easily mistaken statement as an insult and implies you be sayin' by default lies when you say you only said you seen such a storm, about which you share no date, place or proof posted publicly about a merely poorly-worded proofless possibly mythical "storm" you say you saw that you see now softens Washington State coastline area residents. I believe what I've composed, what's about to be sent, makes more sense, towards "Washingtonians" is more decent and ascends to be realized as truth by those astute to its' status based on truth, instead of an insult stated in a public place about the current state of disaster experienced now by those people I now know need more than your poorly-worded derision.
