@@ronniemillsap John was not injured at the time. Neil pickup told John that the match can happen anytime he wants, and John only accepted when he said he felt strong. Soon after devon pull ron bath in london, they had a round robin that lasted well over an hour of devon beating neil pickup, barbosa, michael todd, john brzenk and another I cannot remember (sorry). Neil eventually got Devon, but Devon's strength was leagues beyond the competition at the time.

@Od1sseas this is a very old Brzenk. John was also never a super heavyweight, despite winning over almost all of those guys. After 2010 he wasn't the same anymore. His shoulder problem kept getting worse, as well as he was getting slower and slower with age.
John has also beaten Pushkar before.

@Od1sseas Pushkar was totally fresh whereas John may have fatigued his own hand and wrist from that 2nd match with Zoloev. It's extremely rare to see to see John's hand disadvantaged in the setups. Brzenk did always warn people to fear Pushkar more than Cyplenkov because of his hand tho

Brzenk is bigger than Zoloev here. Like in a heavier weight-class, but confront each others in open category. Zoloev is amazing on his own, but it's almost impossible forJohn to loss a match for a lighter/smaller opponent. Weight-class counts here. No discredit for J.Brzenk, he's much older, but he's bigger (takes advantage) in this match.

Один момент, будь новый армфайт Джона и Дениса, я бы поставил на первого. Возможно Денису по зубам выиграть у Пушкаря и Трубина, за счет невероятной силы связок и бицепса, то с Джоном, будет потяжелее, ибо Цыпленков не верховик, и кисть(верх) у него заметно слабее нежели у Джона.А Брзенк, заслуженный профессор арма, и если будет шанс победить, то победит. Ребятам со слабыми кистями, с Джоном очень сложно, наглядный тому пример Майкл Тодд.

You can tell that John wanted to avoid going inside with Zoloev. He knows how strong Zoloev is inside. When Zoloev tried to force a hook on John, John simply low hand toprolled him, peeling his pinky open. John used his bigger hand size + strength and more backpressure to his advantage against Zoloev and finished him with toproll.

In other words, he was stronger in every other aspect, most likely including hook too. To open up zoloev, from that position, is insanely difficult, im saying that as an armwrestler myself.
oh and to answre your question, it requires great strength to open a hook once the hook is locked, especially then zoloevs hook, however this also was the open category which takes place after weight class matches so, it does not say much. To see them square off fresh, that would be different.

@Random Monster Hunter Content Also, Dave at that time wasn't good at dealing with explosive toprollers. It's one of the main reasons he's completely changed his style from a dragging hook to a toproll. I think if you drop current Chaffee to that A1, he might have won the whole thing.

once both sides have got great technique it really comes down to forearm muscles. brzenk and zoloev are both relatively small dudes compared to some of the giants they go up against, but their forearm muscles are usually bigger. It's decieving to be sure.

if john trained the way sone of these guys do he would dramatically be on top. these russian and other east european guys train and are subsidized by their countries, all they do is train and arm wrestle. John trains but he is mostly natural. my opinion
Peter Schiotis John trains with his training plan for alot of years and he is the best of all time so that means his training style is the best for him. He is over 50 so unfortunately he won't be better... And John is not natural bro.
