One of my favourite decks this expansion (slightly different list since I am running Sky Gen'rall Kragg and classic Alex tough). I loved Quest warlock in Uldum, when it was a meme. And I love it now when it is more competitive. I really like Erkh in this deck, it never felt bed to play.

Accidentally got this in a Shaman exp-farming deck (just focused on summoning a gazillion minions for no other purpose than getting exp for each minion summoned): used Mutate on Ravencaller. That turn and the next 3 turns were just: Lackey, Lackey, Lackey, Lackey, etcetera. Titanic protected Erkh while Goblin and Kobold let me cut down my opponent's field and Ethereal found Spells to help further with that. My opponent had to concede without ever getting to lay a hand on Erkh.

I don't understand not playing the plague of flames at 7:00. His opponent had one card in hand, so plague of flames was much less likely to get more value later, whereas nether breath is always a strong play.

I like the lackey package but i dont use the quest in my list ive added mt giants and the 2/2 that summons a taunt based on hand size since she works good with witchy lackey.

Why is the quest in the deck?
I was wondering if theres any variation of this deck without quest or solarium since they're getting rotated out and im missing them in my collection, I'd like to make use of tekahn

I've seen this deck popping off but what is quest for?? Is it to activate questing explorer? Maybe I'm mistaken but I don't see THAT much value aside from DQ alexxstraza and maybe glinda or tekhan being zero Mana

the most reasonable explanation is, this deck seems to start from behind and need to draw a lot, and draw the right card. You can play it without quest and use novice engineer/loot hoarder instead, but you will risk your life total at the late game. While with quest, you dont have to worry anymore about life total in late game with tap, and you can even complete it in mid game because of plot twist to search for the right card (tekahn).
The zero mana is just a bonus, since alot of reactive card here and you sometimes dont want to play all your mana and ends up let some mana unused.
Another options to not include the quest, my idea.. is probably by using 2 sense demon and 2 witchwood piper. This help you to thin your deck in turn 3 and 4 without the need of life tap. Also makes you more likely to have double broodmother in hand when you do the plot twist.
I was really asking the same thing by the end of our session. It rarely seemed to make much impact. Maybe 1 game out of 10 we won because of a 0-mana draw.
Since I didn't make the deck, I can't really provide any additional insights.

It is more complicated than that. To answer the question, we must first understand the game-plan of the deck. As Arif said, the deck wants to draw a lot, control the board, heal and outvalue your opponents with lackeys and highlander cards (they benefit from drawing a lot). Upgraded hero power not only offers 0-mana tempo, but it also supports that game-plan by allowing you to cycle trough the deck fast enough without taking 2 extra dmg. Not taking extra dmg from life tap is particularly important in current fast/aggro meta. In addition, that 0-mana tempo might not feel huge for a single hero power use, but the sooner you complete the quest, the more benefit you get from it. Free tempo can grow really quickly over few turns. For those 2 reasons, Plot twist should almost always be played sooner rather than later. It not only helps you complete the quest (and thus with your game-plan), but it also helps you find right cards for the matchup (Dark skies, Tekhan, etc.) and occasionally heals you via Aranasi.
I experimented with 2 quest-less versions of the deck: one with Plot twist-Aranasi package and one without it. To be honest, I ended up missing 0-mana tempo a bit, but it didn't feel as crucial. However, not being able to draw cards without taking 2 extra dmg was huge for so many breakpoints. Consequently I ended up not being able to cycle fast enough to find the right answers or to enable highlander cards: I only managed to play them once in a quest-less version. The deck felt much less consistent and more vulnerable compared to quest variant. One way to improve the quest-less version would be to make it faster, by lowering it's curve and making it fight for the board sooner. However that is entirely different archetype, for which there is a video on this channel already: lackey zoolock from a week ago.
It is too soon to conclude which deck is better (zoo or midrange quest), since the sample size is too low. Personally, I prefer quest version, which at the same time is much more skill testing and harder to master. However, I am most probably biased since I love the quest ever since Uldum came out and I don't really like fast/aggro play style and prefer interactive midrange decks where decisions matter.

At 7:11, if you nether breathed the taunt and hit with the lackey into it you could have then hit one of your explorers into it then your other explorer into the oondasta and finished with ziliax into the lily dragon, you could have cleared his board.

I wonder how hearthstone, if at all, would change if you could choose to ignore beneficial battlecries to increas the mindgames it would probably only be noticable in tournaments but i could see a meta where you dont show your opponent your holding a dragon they invest in a board then you deal 3 to all minions, idk just a weird thought
28:00 there should be a puzzle version of hearthstone where you figure out what's needed for lethal in n scenarios like that.

He made a mistake at the 7 minute mark. Should have Nether Breath on the 6/8 taunt, then Ziliax to kill the reborn, then trade the Questing Adventurers into the remaining two minions and have Ziliax vs an empty board.
How do I target that can't be targeted minion?

I saw you played a card you didn't want to play and... I suppose it's starting to be a recurring glitch now. I mean, I had this in battlegrounds. I sold a minion I seriously didn't want to sell (I wanted to sell a 1/1 cat, but ended up selling my 8/5 hyena).
What fun! I'm using Warshack's version of this deck, but with 2x Expired Merchant (instead of Glinda and a Mecharoo). I find it really helps make the deck consistent. at 06:49 isn't the play nether breath on the winged guardian trade the 4/1, then trade a 2/3 into the reborn, then 2/3 into oondasta. He could then zilliax into 3/2.

tbh the quest is pretty useless
Game is trash, imagine if they had no 20 wall the farming would have killed it. It's not a good sign when the player has no control, luck based games like this shouldn't have a leveling system for matching opponents it should be xp based. Seems dumb to act like this is a skill.
