    This is how real engineering is done. You start with a simple need, but end up learning so much. In reality it was probably efficient to just buy a bike with this in the first place. But your learning experience with this is priceless. Well done for ploughing through this and sharing all the problems and how you solved it! And also crediting all the videos in the process - very few people do this!

    Thanks a tonne bro. I was actually considering adding a gearkit to my wife's cycle myself, as other videos on youtube make it look simple. But no one spoke of axle length, frame widening, chain and crankset teeth thickness etc. This was really eye opening. Now I am just going to take it to a mechanic to get done. Thanks!!!

    I'm really glad I came across your video. I recently bought a Dahon single speed bike and while I did enjoy riding it, riding up inclines is absolute hell on my legs and nearly blacked out. Twice.
    I was planning on upgrading/modding the bike with a few adjustments to make my rides easier. And seeing that a 6-gear hub will not fit a single gear hub really made me rethink about installing a 6-speed hub. It would be better to get a 3-speed hub for the spacing.
    Overall, it would have been much easier to just buy another bike and just toggle with that instead. That way, all you have to do is swap out the OEM with aftermarket parts.

    1. Spare Parts:
    I am a German living in Taiwan. Here the students have a good infrastructure for cheap repair shops, 2nd hand bikes, and parts around universities. Is this not the case where you live? I mean buying a round handlebar with a stem could be nearly for free, does it not make more sense to buy a 2nd hand handlebar than designing and printing a new bracket?
    2. Theft
    What is the theft rate where you live? Hope you can keep your special decision for a long time!
    Thanks for sharing, keep it up!

    You were really honest. I liked that. After watching this video I decided to buy a geared cycle instead of modifying a gearless cycle. But I wondered why didn't you buy a new chain which was thicker enough to fit your front chain wheel instead of scrapping off the thickness? What if you get a thick chain next time when the present chain is over used? Any way lot of things you have done. I would have left this project at the first challenge itself 😂😂😂✋👍🏿

    The 3d printing ,man that's a great skill, you couldve drilled a hole through the handle bar or added a hose clamp and drilled the hose clamp,the wheel needs to be re aligned or also known as "dished"which basically moves the wheel position to one side more then the other,it is done with a wheel spoke/nipple' tool or an adjustable wrench and by oiling the spoke and nipple thread junctions before doing so,that way the axle will also benefit in giving you more thread on both sides of the axel bolts, check your wheel spokes afterward because some will protrude out of the nipple thread junctions so you may need to file them down afterward,also check your wheel rim holes maybe add duct/pipe tape as a rim liner,to prevent a rim puncture✌

    • @rolandberendonck3900
      @rolandberendonck3900 2 года назад

      You are right. He should have dished the wheel and can still do that. However it will not make his axle longer 😋

      Or install a new hub into your wheel. Make sure the diameter of the spoke holes is the same so you can reuse your spokes otherwise it will be too costly.

      Just use it with 7 gears for sometime. It should be enough for the most part.
      If you absolutely feel like upgrading later you can think about it

    do i need to change my bicycle wheel hub for installing gear???
    Plz reply sir 🙏🙏🙏

    • @chinmayshalawadi1
      @chinmayshalawadi1  3 года назад

      Ideally yes, to do it the correct way change the hub of the rear wheel to one which can hold a gear cassette. But building the wheel again at home is a hard job.
      You can still use existing hub but it's a bit of a hacky way. Not durable for long term use

      As long as it has a steel frame which you can expand to 130 mm

    Hello, can I install these multi speed gears on Hero Velocity? It has single speed. Electric bicycle. Thank you.

    • @chinmayshalawadi1
      @chinmayshalawadi1  3 года назад +1

      Not sure about electric bicycle. It will have additional complexity of electrical wires and motor on the rear wheel. You can probably do it but, you'll have to research a lot
