So, the thing with Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons. Natsume was the original translator of the Bokujō Monogatari series, and named it Harvest Moon. The company that developed the Bokujō Monogatari games, Marvelous eventually purchased Xseed. They decided to have Xseed translate the series instead of Natsume. Natsume kept the rights to the name Harvest Moon, and have been making their own farming sims under that name since they lost the translation rights to Bokujō Monogatari. Marvelous and Xseed, on the other hand, decided to translate the future Bokujō Monogatari games as "Story of Seasons". So, the Harvest Moon games from "The Lost Valley" onwards are not actually in the same series as the old ones, Story of Seasons is.
They lost the name for Harvest Moon which was what it was called in the west They then went with Story of Seasons which is just what it is called in Japan They still own all the stuff for it just not the name Harvest Moon which I forget who owns that title It was because they switched their English Publishers
Natsume has the rights to the HM brand and nothing else, hence why the new HM games are called "zombie harvest moon" by people, cause it's a corpse of the franchise it was.
5:34 - "I forgot if this one was announced or not." That was Maiden of Black Water, the fifth title, originally a Wii U one which was remastered last year. Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is the fourth title released for the Wii, and has never seen a Western release until now. This is kinda only done (and I'm thankful for this) cause they were like "if the 5th title remaster gets enough sales, we'll go to the previous titles" or something like that.
I'm 90% sure the surge in Farming Sim/Life Sim games is just because of the surge in popularity that Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley had during the first half of the pandemic. It makes sense that if all these devs started working on them at the peak of that craze (late 2020/early 2021) they'd be coming out around now. It just goes to show that devs will 100% try to cash in on whatever is hot at the time, even if the trend has died off since they started the projects. It's unfortunate because I feel like most people had fatigue from these types of games before they announced SIX of them in this direct. That's not even counting the fact that they announced even more of them in their previous directs. I'm sure some of them are really good, but most of these games are just getting shot in the foot before they even launch just because of the sheer number of studios trying to capitalize and make their own spin on the genre.
While I'm not as excited for Enage as most others, I will give credit to the art style. The Indian/Middle Eastern aesthetic for the murals really does illustrate that IS is taking the "Heroes of Myths and Legend" premise seriously this time
- I feel like Engage's Emblems will be restricted to the lead characters of the series. Since Celica is here (and Micaiah in the stained glass), perhaps other "secondary leads" like Robin, Lucina, Ryoma, Xander, Azura, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude could be possible. - Hm, Ochette seems more like a foxgirl to me. (And yes, their names can spell "OCTOPATH". All is right with the world!) - Yeah, even World's End Club keeps up this "colorful ragtag cast" trend. No surprise Too Kyo Games continued with that. - I mean, Sephiroth USED to be a nice guy.
In regards to Emblems, there is a brief shot of what appears to be a "Dark Ring", so its highly likely there will also be a suite of Past Villains that show up as Emblems on the Enemy side.
Soon...soon, we will have a whole new generation of gamers around the world being able to watch on Twitch as their favorite streamers let out long strings of obscenities about Oddjob.
Happy to see Tom found hilarious the Fist of the North Star Fitness Boxing game, too! Anyway, pretty good Direct overall! We got: -Really big announcements (new Fire Emblem, Pikmin 4 finally, name and date for Breath of the Wild 2); -Surprising ports (It takes two, Tunic, Tales of Symphonia and especially Kirby Return to Dream Land) -New games and ports, often of series already on Switch (Octopath, Rune Factory, new game from Danganronpa creator etc.); -The next wave of N64 games (didn't think GoldenEye was possible, love to see all the Mario Party and Pokémon Stadium); -Free updates for games already out which is always nice.
Every game is a farming game. Even Pikmin 4. You're basically farming there. Even Bayonetta: "You've seen her battle angels, you've seen her battle demons, now get ready to see her farm corn." Even Splatoon: "What would YOU bring to a desert island?" "Well, obviously farming equipment so you could live off the land." They even ported my favorite farming game: Tales of Symphonia. What are they farming in that game? You really DON'T wanna know! XD Side note: the thing with Symphonia's ports was being based off the PS2 version and its 30FPS instead of the Gamecube version's 60FPS. :/ Odd that it isn't Chronicles, including DonW, which funnily was originally a Wii game.
Surprised there was no mention of the Rayman DLC for Sparks of Hope in the Direct. Ooh, they’re using Dedede’s KatFL design too! It’s not just a straight up port! May 12th release date for Tears of the Kingdom? Happy birthday to me!…Give or take six days.
"I thought it was Ikaruga for a second." You're not wrong exactly. It's an earlier well-renowned bullet hell sh'mup from Treasure that originally launched for the arcade and Sega Saturn. 360 did get it back in 2011, and this is the first time a Nintendo console has it.
it was hilarious to see Tom quickly catch on to the notable pattern and trend of farming sims in this direct and later become astonished at each subsequent announcement of a unique farming rpg sim.
Nintendo got a raw deal on Goldeneye. The Xbox reveal is equally cryptic, what with only the Game Pass announcement and the barely-visible Rare Replay logo in the corner. At least that means you'll be able to BUY it on Xbox, but it's unclear as to HOW.
My Theory: In 2020, Animal Crossing New Horizons was absolutely huge (also a second wind for Stardew Valley), and we're now seeing the wave of studios responding to it.
Question to everyone: With each Direct having a Japan-only game being remade for the Switch and made available to us, who here would love the Dragon Quest Monsters 1 & 2 remakes be released to Switch and made available to us?
*I personally like farming style games like Story of Seasona and find them relaxing for the most part, also some of new ones that were shown look very cute. *Didn’t know Tunic was coming to the Switch, I had heard it was coming to PS4 so I suppose I’m not surprised; regardless I’m definitely going to be pre ordering it, the streams of the game you’ve done that I’ve watched have been wonder and I WANT this cute fox game. *I’ve never gotten the chance to play the Pikmin games myself but I’ve seen several let’s plays of the games and have loved watching them, thus I’m excited to see Pikmin 4 is finally coming out; I know people have been hoping for it and I look forward to finding out more about the game. *I heard the words: From The Creators Of Danganranpa, and immediately and my attention was immediately grabbed. Thanks to Lucahjin I fell in love with that series and have it on my wish list, so the fact that there’s a different game by the same creators with a similar style has me feeling excited! *Awesome we finally got a trailer and a name for Breath of the Wild 2, I thought the first game is great and just by the trailer that was shown I think I’ll like the second game as well.
21:38 bro I thought perfect dark when I originally saw this lol. Some thought Metroid. Some KNEW Goldeneye. But Goldeneye is still very much welcome. Would be cool to get Perfect Dark as well. Some others I want to see, Buck Bumble. Jet Force Gemini, Sarge's Heroes, Battletanx, Battletanx Global Assault, Road Rash 64, Turok games....etc... Oh and Mace 64 which is widely unknown lol. But great game.
and there is the reason why the expansion pass being $50, Goldeneye costing money to add onto the service and not cuz of Rare, cuz of the original copyright owners.
While I was a bit sad that there was nothing for the Switch port of Persona 5, these are the games I'm most excited for - The new Spongebob game (Yay childhood) - BOTW2 (About time, also well-played making it the final trailer) - New DLC for Mario Kart - Mario Party 1-3, Pokemon Stadium 1-2 and Goldeneye 007 as N64 ports - Mario Strikers Diddy Kong Update -Pikmin 4 - Raincode (I loved Danganronpa so this one looks pretty cool) - Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe
38:44 "Shooter starring Vincent" You mean Dirge of Cerberus? I definitely think DoC needs a remaster since it was a PS2 game, but no one really talks about it so I doubt it'll ever happen. Otherwise there arent too many games releasing that I'm too interested in watching anyone play since I don't have a switch yet personally. The Disney cart game looks interesting, pikmin 4 looks like pikmin. Kinda stoked about pokemon stadium since I have nostalgia of playing it with my cousin. Soooooo many farming/Jrpgs coming out though.
I hope that they're including like a free copy of Red/Blue/Yellow/Silver/Gold/Crystal INSIDE Pokemon Stadium 1+2, because going through those games with only rental pokemon would be... ugh.
New Pikmin and Zelda name drop is nice and all... But Rune Factory 3 Special? That's my highlight. Now I won't have to emulate it. Though I wish I knew what they meant by "A new Rune Factory series." Like, a new anime? Or are they ditching numbered games and moving towards stuff like Tides of Destiny or Frontier? WHAT DOES A NEW SERIES MEAN? Also, I'm pretty sure IB is older than Undertale.
as stupid as this might be, everyone knows how hyped we are for all this stuff I'm just hyped that we're finally getting Sigurd in a western main release. I still want FE4 and 5 remade
Hey, Tales of Symphonia for the Switch... yay.. Could we maybe get, I dunno... ANY of the great games that came after Symphonia? The ones where Bandai-Namco apparently decided that they wanted to go from Nintendo-exclusive to Nintendo-excluding?
11:50 You are not 100% wrong as it is the real people behind Harvest Moon going impended as Harvest Moon is not their IP even if they made it type of deal
