There are synthetic fibres which provides greater water absorbption than cotton (eg micro fibre, which 100% synthetic). Cotton provides fine balance between water absorbption and breathability. That is the most important reason why cotton is preferred in undergarments. It allows air flow better than other synthetic, better water absorbing materials and still provide good water absorbption
