Amazing version of this song. When will Josh Homme get the accolades he deserves? I don't think many people know how good of a guitarist and a musician he really is.
+Tom T By they, you mean QOTSA and Björk right? Because if you do, then fuck yes, I agree with you! They turned a sort of spacey, dance song into a almost doom-laden, stoner metal ballad.
Saw them twice on consecutive nights, double bill with NIN Auckland/Wellington, NZ. They played this at Wellington, made my 2 days. Got the set list signed by and from Hutch after the QOTSA set, made my 50th, as did the birthday card that followed a week later, signed by the band and Mo Sup and Pat. Thanks, QOTSA and co, for being fucking legends.
I can tell why they broadcast The Beatles into space, instead of Queens of the Stone Age. We didn't want to blow the alien's minds before they even got here.
at 3:31 you can see the devil trying to enter the stage, falling from the sky - like the fallen angel that he is. Paralyzed immediately, tough, by so much awesomeness, he is left for dead. Only to be picked and thrown away by a QOTSA-roadie, a few seconds later. The end.
The first time i saw them play this song live, was at a club in Seattle. I had been up front in the pit the entire show. I was drenched in sweat. I was so thirsty and my body was just craving water. So I came out to drink some water then have a couple beers. I had brought some blow with me to the show. Probably the main reason I was wanting water. Anyways I had maybe 2 grams or so left. I had been wanting to see them play this song badly. So Josh starts the next song, I knew right away and its BLTC. So I pull out my baggie of blow and straw, put the straw in it. And im literally snorting as much as i could as i run back into the pit. I did some stupid shit when I was young, hell i still do. But the memories are fantastic. 😂
Saw them a couple hours ago in Montreal, and they played it!!! along with song for the dead, no one knows, little sister, a couple more and of course the whole queens of the stone age album. BEST CONCERT EVER
The mob comes crawling up/ I'm reclaiming my mind/ Destroying everyone/ There's no one here/ And people everywhere/ You're all alone. f*cking insane..that's me 2 days ago in Glastonbury! even if for chemistry i waited shangri-la :D
i used to like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Jimmi Hendrix or Carlos Santana's guitar playing about 15 years ago, but man, these days, Joshua Homme is the #1 guitar slayer in my opinion... He is the new real deal that i'm sure will rock my noodle til i die!
This is pretty rare footage... Josh playing his Ovation with some Badcats into the Lullabies Era and Joey playing bongos lol?? Pretty bad ass!! Love myself some early Queens stuff!!
One of the best live performances ive seen on youtube, and, I have to say, it looks like one of the most physically demanding on everybody's behalf. This is much better than the studio version, but both kick ass
...and still to this day, i envisage Josh, in a suit, all gentlemanly like, with the sleeves torn off....something about the finesse, and the rawness....
one of the best versions. this is one of those songs that in every incarnation is just fucking amazing. when that riff kicks in it just takes you away to a place words can't describe
R u serious ? They're like THE best rock-group !!! Josh Homme is a magician when he holds a guitar, it's just magical and almost unnatural what he can do with a guitar, not to mention his great feeling to invent a great song and best of all he just lives to perform live concerts, when he's playing live, you got no other chance but to enjoy it, even if you aren't a fan
Thanks for sharing. Some QOTSA was just what was needed to wash away the aftertaste of too many shots on at the top of the week at the local DC 14St dive.
I disagree with the guy below saying Joey Castillo is better than all the other drummers besides Dave Grohl. Wait until you hear Jon Theodore on their next album. He is a better drummer than Grohl also. It will be remarkable. If you don't believe me listen to the drums on Deloused In The Comatorium by The Mars Volta. That whole album has some excellent stuff going on.
I don't know man. Theodore fits great with a prog band like Volta. Queens on the other hand are tight, robotic, Kraut rock influenced desert rock. I think he's a bit to loose for the band.
This is in C standard (C-F-Bb-Eb-G-C). In Kyuss he did play through bass cab. Josh said in an interview they used to loosen the strings as far as possible while still having some tension, then make them slightly tighter then from there just relatively tune, turns out that gives somewhere around C-tuning, anything lower and the strings have almost no tension unless you step up the string gauge. In queens he plays in C standard with around 13 gauge strings.
Thank you QOTSA and Björk for making this epic song! One of the best Stoner Metal songs of all time, up there with "Freedom Run," "Super Scoopa And Mighty Scoop," "Dopesmoker" and "Sweet Leaf."
No, the chorus's lyrics of this song is exactly the same as the lyrics from the pre-chorus of Björk's "Crying." Also, I'm talking about Björk from Iceland, not Brant Bjork. Björk Guðmundsdóttir specifically.
@ODonnell94 It's not a maton, it's an ovation gp builded from 1984 to 1986, that has failed comercially talking. But that josh has ressucited this guitar, he has...
just show me one bassist like nick oliveri with same genius feeling and technique. As guitarist i would love to play with him. That guyz playin standard electric bass in fretless style with full force and soul. Hes really a master of his doin and his instrument. Sorry but i love his job ;)
have you ever seen rock in rio 14? michael absolutely kills it there. nick is great, considering he came up with the bassline, but michael deff knows how to make it still awesome
Yea man hes my fav too. its all them years of kyuss and trippin and stuff in the desert man, hes just transcended. this is my favourite solo on this song!
I know they all famously agree their worst show was rock am ring in like 2001. I was there. In the army at the time. I thought it was the strangest timing and I still enjoyed it.
I mean this in the best possible way... josh homme is the second coming of elvis. Genre bending, but completely deliberate. Carving your own path. Charisma like you wouldnt believe. Pure rockstar.
There can't be many drummers that can do what Joey Castillo does here. 2.5 minutes of uninterrupted maniacal drum bashing - looping over and over what would normally be a 3 second filler to create an incredibly intense backbone for the guitar madness. Mesmerizing.
Amazing version of this song.
When will Josh Homme get the accolades he deserves? I don't think many people know how good of a guitarist and a musician he really is.
Musicians know
Still I feel similar, it is not just anyone who invents riffs like this.
we know, and that's enough
I know and that's enough
Deserves the Rock and Roll HOF!
songs like these are making QOTSA to one of the greatest Rock Bands ever!
Agreed
4:40 mark that shit is tight...def good performance..cocaine helps😁
I've seen QOTSA live 3 times and they've always played this song. It's absolutely amazing live. Josh is an outstanding guitarist.
Im literally coming home from a qotsa concert right now and whilst they didnt play this i can confirm they are stull fucking exceptional
ah, i miss the ovation. i hope he busts it out again, some day. he truly had his own sound with that guitar.
i love he always adds something to every guitar riff that is different from the album, no matter how small it always fits.
Royal Blood must of listened to a Lotta queens of the stone age this riff alone defines their career to date
who would want a better influence?!
Yep, glad I saw them open for queens at the forum.
possibly one of the greatest tunes they have written so far
+Tom T By they, you mean QOTSA and Björk right? Because if you do, then fuck yes, I agree with you! They turned a sort of spacey, dance song into a almost doom-laden, stoner metal ballad.

OFIDH awesome story man, how'd that unfold?!
Look how small that Ovation GP looks on Josh, he's a colossous, and such an underated guitar player. This performance is immense.
Joey Castillo tears it up in this performance. This is my favorite live of this song.
Guy on percussion gave incredible performace. What an energy!
Joey Castillo. He recorded Danzig 4. Hell of a drummer
I can tell why they broadcast The Beatles into space, instead of Queens of the Stone Age. We didn't want to blow the alien's minds before they even got here.
Absolute best guitar intro he’s done to this song. Amazing.
homme is so good. his guitar is just part of his body.
I always love it when they have a just a jam session after some of there songs.
Can’t believe I didn’t listen to ‘Rated R’ until a few weeks ago. Love this Song! Can’t wait to see them play live!
i've had the divine pleasure of hearing this song in person
Wow ! What a performance ! Specially from the drummer.
Joey Castillo is a beast and my favorite QUOTSA drummer
at 3:31 you can see the devil trying to enter the stage, falling from the sky - like the fallen angel that he is. Paralyzed immediately, tough, by so much awesomeness, he is left for dead. Only to be picked and thrown away by a QOTSA-roadie, a few seconds later. The end.
Wtf is that?
Username Denied the devil
Any updates on that Moron?
This is a song to feel, more than hear. It’s hypnotic 🖤
The best band i have ever seen live.
For those who have never seen them. Man yous have missed out on somthing special.
Homme have got this black guitar since is 16 I think (I think it's an Ovation).
I come back to this video every few days just to watch the amazing. These guys deserve so much more recognition then they currently do.
"I'm reclaiming my mind, destroying everyone."
Gotta love them lyrics!
The first time i saw them play this song live, was at a club in Seattle. I had been up front in the pit the entire show. I was drenched in sweat. I was so thirsty and my body was just craving water. Headlong, the only way to go that I know.
best performance of this song ever. I envy those who were there
God sent them to earth to save rock n roll
Saw them a couple hours ago in Montreal, and they played it!!! along with song for the dead, no one knows, little sister, a couple more and of course the whole queens of the stone age album. BEST CONCERT EVER
Now this should be on the DELUXE VERSION!!!! Best live solo ive ever heard...
The mob comes crawling up/ I'm reclaiming my mind/ Destroying everyone/ There's no one here/ And people everywhere/ You're all alone.
f*cking insane..that's me 2 days ago in Glastonbury! even if for chemistry i waited
shangri-la :D
Took me 7 QOTSA shows, but I finally heard this song live. Melted my mind. I am not the same person I was before I heard this song live.
That was one massive bend!
i used to like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Jimmi Hendrix or Carlos Santana's guitar playing about 15 years ago, but man, these days, Joshua Homme is the #1 guitar slayer in my opinion... He is the new real deal that i'm sure will rock my noodle til i die!
This is pretty rare footage... Josh playing his Ovation with some Badcats into the Lullabies Era and Joey playing bongos lol?? Pretty bad ass!! Love myself some early Queens stuff!!
Too bad the bass's nearly missing in the mix. That what made me trip so much live.
2:30 until 3:00, Josh really moves that GP around to get a feedback! A definite highlight!
how about when he actually plays it I think that's more what should be noted
One of the best live performances ive seen on youtube, and, I have to say, it looks like one of the most physically demanding on everybody's behalf. This is much better than the studio version, but both kick ass
...and still to this day, i envisage Josh, in a suit, all gentlemanly like, with the sleeves torn off....something about the finesse, and the rawness....
Well put.
I like this, because I like Josh, I like QOTSA...but, what? lol
3:30 troy's like "wtf?"
Weed changed the way I saw this song
+sonic titan literally the best song for smoking
@@TheHammeredDog for me it was mdma, but yeah, weed always works aswell :'D
This song changed the way I saw weed.
Haha Josh: "Stay with me now". God, it's not that hard to clap on time.
one of the best versions. this is one of those songs that in every incarnation is just fucking amazing. when that riff kicks in it just takes you away to a place words can't describe
Benefits of C tuning! Got to love it.
Eargasm!!!
R u serious ? They're like THE best rock-group !!! amazing performance! wish we could see more of Nick.
Thanks for sharing. Some QOTSA was just what was needed to wash away the aftertaste of too many shots on at the top of the week at the local DC 14St dive.
This guy is good at guitar
I disagree with the guy below saying Joey Castillo is better than all the other drummers besides Dave Grohl. Wait until you hear Jon Theodore on their next album. Wait a fucking second. The drummer from The Mars Volta's first album is with Queens????? That next album is going to be devastating now.
finally someone said it, all i hear is put joey back in... hes good but he cant fit with the direction the band is going.
Michael Pavlik bruh Theodore is no question the best drummer the band has had
All the drumming in The Mars Volta is completely insane!
I don't know man. Theodore fits great with a prog band like Volta. Queens on the other hand are tight, robotic, Kraut rock influenced desert rock. I think he's a bit to loose for the band.
OMG! The riff of this song causes me chills!

it just have this flow, this atmosphere like almost no other song...this song makes me high
Thank you QOTSA and Björk for making this epic song! One of the best Stoner Metal songs of all time, up there with "Freedom Run," "Super Scoopa And Mighty Scoop," "Dopesmoker" and "Sweet Leaf."
Brant Bjork helped make this song? I thought it was Homme and Oliveri.
+Teal'c I think Bjork was cited as an inspiration for the song in the albums linear notes.
No, the chorus's lyrics of this song is exactly the same as the lyrics from the pre-chorus of Björk's "Crying." Also, I'm talking about Björk from Iceland, not Brant Bjork. Björk Guðmundsdóttir specifically.
it sounds so progressive.
@ODonnell94 It's not a maton, it's an ovation gp builded from 1984 to 1986, that has failed comercially talking. But that josh has ressucited this guitar, he has...
I will never forget the first time... all those years ago... When I first heard THIS song! 🤘🏼
Live always good ,amazing band
12 seconds in and it's a thumbs up.
@AQueenOfTheStoneAge i enter another world when this song plays, totally awsum !!!!!!!
just show me one bassist like nick oliveri with same genius feeling and technique. As guitarist i would love to play with him. That guyz playin standard electric bass in fretless style with full force and soul. Hes really a master of his doin and his instrument. Sorry but i love his job ;)
fantastic performance.
One of the more satisfying songs to play on bass. Shuman is a beast.
meant to say too... beast too.
have you ever seen rock in rio 14? michael absolutely kills it there. nick is great, considering he came up with the bassline, but michael deff knows how to make it still awesome
Here is Nick ...
I'm late to your shuman is a beast party, but I hope you realize that this is long before he was in the band?
It is the EPIC queens of the stone age song. Like the mind-bending climax of all that is ROCK music!!
I love the bass. Such a smooth sound.
i luv this tune, what a performance
Love that older song from way back in the day.
Yea man hes my fav too. its all them years of kyuss and trippin and stuff in the desert man, hes just transcended. this is my favourite solo on this song!
No mortal could ever create something so awe inspiring... THEY ARE GODS.
Hands down - in my opinion the greatest Qotsa song so far... love it -- epic !!!
don't stop liking these guys. enjoy everything
I love watching Josh play
Indeed. His skills are comparable to master bra'tac with his Ma'Tok. He would make a fine Goa'uld Jaffa.
Damn this group is impressive.
Love the way Joey plays the drums like he's beating the face of his worst enemy!
josh you rock i need ta see yall live come back to comblowus ohio
i love how they are taking their time
I love Josh's solos!
❤I can hear the desert.
5:57 Did he just make his E string touch his other E string 0_o' Jesus he did like a 10 tone bend...
the best trip you can ever have...
Completely dig the otherworldly comment - it is like reaching the clouds. A high point in rocking out. I hope Vultures can fly like this. Forever.
i hope ill get to see them st gallen this year!
I know they all famously agree their worst show was rock am ring in like 2001.
I was there. In the army at the time. I thought it was the strangest timing and I still enjoyed it.
GREAT QOTSA! I LOVE THIS SONG AND RATED-R ALBUM.
I mean this in the best possible way... josh homme is the second coming of elvis. Genre bending, but completely deliberate. Carving your own path. Charisma like you wouldnt believe. Pure rockstar.
One of the best songs by Homme & fellas
I have no words.....
What a great quote!
so much fucking atmosphere is created whenever they play better living
Love this tune.
Oliveri brought them doin that yea. Best musical performance of that song in youtube. THX NICK!

Every time I hear you, Im in love. thx Josh.
this is a masterpiece.
incredible

I wish I was that guitar!
