    • @JSacadura

      Cleft works fine as long as you make sure the cambium lines of scion and rootstock cross at some point. Whip and tongue is more difficult to execute but it's almost impossible to fail cambium cross at some point.

      It's better to prune them while they are dormant, so I can only do it at the end of the year. In most cases just keep the center of the tree open and prune any branch that grow excessively high to keep the tree under control. Most of the techniques I use in this video regarding Open Center Pruning can be used in fig trees - ruclips.net/video/Y8Qg1Z-c_U4/видео.html

Could you make a video on framework grafting (when you are happy with what you have, just want to add more)? For example, threre is a young but estsblished pluot tree with 4 varieties, and you would like to add a 5th pluot or a plum variety to this tree, without removing any of the existing ones. How to make this addition grow well? A lot of people have smaller yards, not farms :), and would like to add, not replace! Thanks!

    btw how sharp are your knives. ? Shaving sharp? Do you use sharpening stones? What’s your final grit size? Stopping as well?

    • @JSacadura
      @JSacadura  7 месяцев назад

      No, it's not a mistake. That outward cut won't do nothing regarding the graft union. It's just to slim down the scion to produce a better fit under the bark. Check my videos on grafting knife use, selection and sharpening, like these two (ruclips.net/video/-AsaxoqzU88/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/5cdNElL5YHI/видео.html). Boa noite. Eu enxertei nespereira o ano passado na primavera com whip and tongue com algum sucesso. No entanto notei que mal se corta o porta enxerto ou o garfo ele oxida muito rápido. Isto é normal nas nespereiras? Também fiquei com a ideia que o whip and tongue não resulta bem em garfos mais grossos com cerca de 1cm. Fiz uns quantos em macieira e os que pegaram foram os mais finos com 6 ou 7mm de espessura.É necessário fazer alguma compensação para diâmetros maiores?

    • @JSacadura
      @JSacadura  7 месяцев назад +1

      A nespereira oxida muito rapidamente. Isso é normal. Os cortes devem ser executados o mais rápido possível, devido a isso. Em macieira, para diâmetros maiores, a fenda modificada e o enxerto de coroa tendem a funcionar melhor. O whip and tongue é mais complicado de executar com diâmetros maiores e é necessário fazer cortes mais curtos para encaixarem bem.

    • @mjollnyr77
      @mjollnyr77 7 месяцев назад

      @@JSacadura Há alguma coisa que se possa fazer para mitigar o oxidar rápido dos biseis na nespereira? Borrifar com água é boa ideia ou vai dificultar o pegar do enxerto?

    Bro, how do to make those cuts like that? My knife must suck.

    • @JSacadura
      @JSacadura  7 месяцев назад

      The knife has to be very sharp. Otherwise the grafts tend to fail and you increase the chances of cutting yourself. Check my videos on the use and sharpening of grafting knives, like these two (ruclips.net/video/-AsaxoqzU88/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/5cdNElL5YHI/видео.html)

    Sir i did grafting and they were successful new leaves were grown but when i open the cover from the scion the grown leaves Died why is so

    • @JSacadura
      @JSacadura  7 месяцев назад

      Probably the vascular tissues of the graft could not provide nutrition to the scion. I tend to leave the cover a bit more (slightly open) to protect it from direct sun in the first week. Better luck next time.

    strap grafting is better than bark grafting

      The bark graft works just fine without that extra strap. Doesn't seem necessary, in most cases.

    Good morning.Thing is, I bought two bare-root nectarine trees and put them in a raised bed this spring, planning to use their branches for scions for my freestone peach tree next spring. Their new branches are not big enough to be able to use them as scions in the conventional manner. Its highly unlikely they will be big enough by next spring either. So, However, can I use the bud grafting technique to remove these branches from the maybe half inch diameter tree trunk and graft them into my peach tree branches this fall and next spring? Thankyou,Lewis Brackett in coastal San Diego.
