George is a genius, talented one of a kind drummer. I can go on and on, since I discovered The 1975, I always been so obsessed with his drumming. He's perfect.
Word 🙌🏼 I first heard The 1975 around the release of self titled, dove backwards a bit into the drive like i do RUclips rabbit hole and always felt an energy within their sound. The more I listened the more I understood how much of that energy was coming from George, both in production and his drumming. He's like a teammate that makes all the guys around him play better. I told myself a couple years ago that I had to make a channel about this guy; hopefully I can capture even a fraction of his brilliance and show it off for you guys. Thanks for watching ❤️
you have immaculate taste, so many spicy fills in both those live versions. I'm definitely gonna make a video just for sincerity (nasty hi hat groove and that fill after "don't have a child, don't cramp ya style...") certainly has a place on this list. Don't even get me started on the love it if we made it fill. That's just pure speed and chops and I truly regret not adding it into this vid. Once I learn to play that fill I promise I will redeem myself and share it with you guys
Crazy to think that album is nearing ten years old. George cronching through heart out again shows his mastery over those songs and his ability to hone in on a vibe over time
You’re too kind, really glad to have you join the fam 💕 and seriously love me is a masterpiece! I’m glad you enjoyed the she’s American bit as well, so many people know George for that fill and it really is the flow of motion that’s at the root of its power.
He likes to lead into the next bar with a crash cymbal in the space between the 4 of the preceding bar and 1 of the next bar. Its a little trick a lot of session drummers do, one that immediately comes to mind is the great Dennis Chambers, who can be heard doing exactly that in his drum solo in Josie on the Steely Dan live album "Alive In America".
Great shout to a true genius of the instrument in Dennis Chambers. I'm gonna go and listen to that full live album now. You've got a great ear, I definitely picked out that crash trick while listening to Josie. George likes his rimshots and high-pop snare after employing the technique himself - (x crash POP // 4 and ONE) to lead into the next bar as you said. I'm glad he's studied or is at least influenced by some of the masters before him (aren't we all?)
I remember years and years ago. I seen them live and they were opening for Twenty One Pilots (the tickets were literally $15 years ago lol)…. And I remember saying “the lead singer is such an asshole (Matty was drunk as hell and all over the place) but my god the band is amazing. Do you hear and see the drummer??!!” .. here we are today and The 1975 is my absolute favorite band and I have an unwavering respect for their musicianship as a whole.
I swear we need more content. It doesn't what thoughts you have about George's production or writing skills or playing. I'd like to have to more and discuss about it
Search "Adam Gunn The 1975" he must be like an old friend of theirs who filmed that whole show at the Deaf Institute. There's like 6 songs from that show and they're all killer, that she way out fill is a classic example of George being effortlessly incredible behind the kit
Yep, George Daniel is a bloody amazing drummer and a personal favourite of mine. He has such a signature sound, I don't think The 1975 would be at all the same with him. The way he takes concepts like linear drumming and sampling, and puts them through such a musical filter is just inspiring and had a huge impact on my own playing. I play in a progressive/alternative rock band and yet George Daniel has been more influential on my rock playing than almost any other drummer the last few years. I think you can hear it in this song, particularly in the intro and chorus ruclips.net/video/9tLfGKScPI0/видео.html
I definitely hear that linear influence in the intro, but man Rumour stands on its own legs incredibly well! You guys have serious talent. I love how purposeful every drum hit is, regardless of volume everything feels big and part of the action. That's something at the core of G's work : purpose. The 'why' rather than the 'what' so to speak
@@notgdans And I agree, the "why" is always key to making good music. George Daniel is clearly someone who understands this which is why his drum parts and production are always so on point!
So true king, great choices that definitely wouldn’t be out of place on this list. I’m covering the instrumental version of settle down on my Roland this summer so stick around for that. I’m glad you enjoyed!
I've seen it mate he absolutely unloads at the end. That Yamaha kit with the Zildjian's on it is extremely powerful for that song. He plays off that nasty fill after Matty says "let's keep it funky" in the middle of the song just alters it to suit the end. Delayed crash kicks your ass when you're not expecting it and really lets that payoff hang in the air for a moment.
Lo voy a dedicar un video solo para esa parte, pero te lo juro que tiene lugar en este lista. El poder de George es increíble en LIIWMA. Gracias por verlo ❤️
Talk! is one massive fill to be fair and needs honorable mention on this list, I'm gonna get around to a video just on Talk! because of how unique it is. Great shout
I fucking love your content.

intro is literally me everytime I watch live performances of shes american
Glad I'm not the only one lol 💕💕🥁
im surprised you didnt include his fills from the live versions of sincerity is scary and love it if we made it

the little cronchy fills during the live version of heart out get me every time

One of my ALL time favs. Just love his whole style.
Totally agree Matias, I've been obsessed with learning the elements of his style since the very beginning

thanks for the shout out! 🙌
thanks for your brilliant vid!
I just realized most of my fav songs from them are because of George and his drumming
Obsessed with his drum fills. my ultimate fave is their set in the 2022 summer sonic Tokyo festival for Chocolate. Literal perfection.

i remember finding the video of number 9 so many years ago and noticing that fill thinking it was incredible - love this video commenting on it :D

i fucking love this video! i'm not a drummer but i've been trying to get a 1975 type drum style for my own music. this has really helped
you should add a playlist to ur channel of all of these + any others !
consider it done

7:25 ayoooo 🤔
😂 😮 🍑😛 🎉
Brooooo george just followed me on IG, my entire life is made
Jealous isn't strong enough of a word to describe me rn... Fucking huge mate! Congrats
toot studio version has me hollering every time
settle down, girls ending and heads.cars.bending drum breaks on the live versions are also good. nice video :)

love this video thanks
Don't stop uploading, please.
Promise I won't 🖤 I love making videos and comments like yours are a huge part of that. Thank you legend
I love I guess the shuffle on the fills he does. Every hit is not perfectly on beat and there's big gaps in them.
Hes the greatest drummer ever in my opinion
🔥🔥 hot take. He's got my vote
That is as close to being objectively untrue as any subjective opinion can be.
I like the HH one in the studio version more too!
Have you seen the outro drumming piece from the last Reading festivals Love Me outro. Absolute filth.
I've seen it mate he absolutely unloads at the end. That Yamaha kit with the Zildjian's on it is extremely powerful for that song. Te falto la parte de "Love it if we made it".
I think a good one is also the one in Settle Down live version, right after the first chorus
Heck yeah! Right before Matty sings "Small town.. dictating all the people we get around"... Right?
😻
shocked that talk! isn't on here
