this really helped me get my tail and nose slides back. im 45 and just started skating again after a few decades of not really doing it. My son wanted to learn to skate so i figured this would be the perfect thing for both us. i started skating back in 89-90 and kinda stopped back in the maybe 2000. i loved it growing up and it made me so happy that my son wanted to learn. i got us both new completes as fast as i could. some stuff came back right away like ollies, pop shovits and some slides. i taught him how to ollie and he picked it up pretty fast. i stumbled across you channel while i was looking for how to vids. i liked how real you kept and fun you kept it. reminded me of how it was back when i was younger. i quickly showed my son and he digs your channel as well. currently we both are trying to learn kickflips(im trying to relearn and he's fresh to them) . nothing is better then skating with your son at the parks or at street spot getting energy off each other. Thank you for having a rad channel and making everything fun. we've watched all your videos and looking forward to the new videos to come.
Mate, Just seen this video I can most basic grinds pretty comfortably BUT After this video I have every single grind and slide on LOCK When I now think BEND KNEES before every single grind I land them 95% of the time My problem has always been sticking on my grinds and slides Now i slide everything and it has made every single trick out of grinds and slides so doable for me Thank you You have officially made me decent at skating ledges
Heyy dale! It’s gonna be my birthday on Thursday and I will love to skate with u. I skate at village skatepark, if u can’t go, It’s fine. I love all ur videos :)
Good stuff, Dale :) Now to the bent knees. Bent knees naturally help balancing, because when you bend your knees while standing on the ground, the center of gravity lowers, which helps balancing, as well as to actually bend your knees you have to keep balance of your upper body while doing it. These are the two key factors that help balancing so much when the knees are bent. Just stand with straight legs and ask a friend to push you. You will tend to fall. With bent knees you won't, so there's a series of three joints (*) involved in balancing the upper body, while you're only able to keep balance with upper body maneuvering standing with straight legs.
The guy in the backround at 1:58 has the absolute best reaction to your tailslide kickflip out Hahaha. Great tutorial man! Ya'll stay having amazing content. I gotta subscribe Edit: Okay Garrets face really threw me off gaurd. I just wasn't expecting him Lmaooo
@dale decker sduch fire tips, thanks much you the man ! TO SUM IT UP: 1) legs bent at knees DURING WHOLE SLIDE TO COMPLETE IT 2) HAVE BALLS OF FEET ON PEAK TAIL 3) KEEP EYES FOCUSED ON END ON LEDGE SO YOULL GET TRICK ENTIRELY! = voila you got it
Super helpful thanks dale. I’ve always known how to do these tricks but there are times where I lose them and it is definitely because I was subconsciously bending my knees during the trick when I had em. Thanks again!
I think the knee thing might be my big problem with backside nose slides. I can FS nose slide but backsides stick every time. Rad tip. I love that you're putting these number one hack videos up
Bro definitely you are the best explaining skating hacks, I just love watching every of your vlogs. Also congrats for the progress slamming has gotten so far, those designs are mind blowing. Greatings from Venezuela. Someday I'll have the opportunity to buy some of your slamming merch
I was litterly thinking about this trick and for it to pop in my feed today. Made my day. Bless. Leaning switch right now cant wait to jump into a slide. I hope lol
bent knees=shorter body=less torque that the friction of the ledge has on your body. Therefore, bent legs=less of a chance of you sticking during a tail/nose slide
Thanks for the knee bending tip, I dare say this will change a lot of peoples skating. I've noticed while trying to do back tails it's natural to bend your knees just slide into position. Still bloody difficult.
Thanks for the tip! I learned Nollie Fr/Bs tail slides first (it seemed easier for me xD). Try that if you're having a bad time. Now I can do regular Fr tail but haven't unlocked them bs Yet :)
Hey my coach told me a long time ago because I’m 6’10 tall and that I have to play low if I ever want to be athletic so this is just another repeated lesson for me lol I have to just keep them bent for this trick as well lol
This is Such a helpful video, thank you. It’s a mystery to me how ,say, Carlos Ribeiro , and Torrey Pudwill hold back tail slides for like a million feet.
@@daledecker all love vro and fuck yeah was kinda worried about any later complications like swelling after the video!! Gotta be careful hitting the back of your head 😎 you Fr took it like a champ 🙏🏽😎🖤
I remember seeing pics of nose or tailslides back in the 90's and they used to lean into them real hard, their feet were all sideways like they were doing a flying kick almost to lock in, I guess that's why they'd wax ledges with their faces more when they'd miss. Probably how Hall of Meat got started. All those crazy bails.
Awesome, you hit the main point I always ask, "where are you looking during the trick?" This is great. I went to the drop day 1. I was hoping to pick up the restock of the quarter zip but no XL. I keep checking back. I would really like to get one of those. Anything in the works for a Dale and David industry update talk? One of my favorite videos was when you a David talked shoes and industry.
Kiltdat advice gg!! I gotta keep my eye on the end of the ledge and bend dem knees and let the ledge meet your feet rather than landing on top of the ledge with all your weight!
tell kids all the time when learning transition to “BEND UR KNEES FFS” - now i feel like a dummy trying to stand straight on one leg during tail/nose slides…

Legend
I just learned nose slides this last year and I totally wasn't bending my knees right. Thanks dadio!
hell yeah hope it helps!
Thanks for the bending knees tip. I had not at all considered my knee posture when doing grinds/slides.
it helps soooo much
Dale : “ welcome to life hacks for breakfast”
Also dale : Drops at midnight
lol
I bent my knees but I still couldn't slide into her DM's :(
keep trying
more wax should work
The bending your knees when you get in tip helped me land a satisfying fs tailslide
1:56 the dude in the white shirt's reaction is awesome lmao
hahaha
That DOG...
Clearly doesn't want to bend it's knees on slide tricks...
*Also, just realized there's a pic of a barking dog on Dale's shirt too 😯
hahhaha

Hell yeah man im hyped these are actually helpful.
I think the knee thing might be my big problem with backside nose slides. I can FS nose slide but backsides stick every time. Rad tip. I love that you're putting these number one hack videos up
Hell ya im just glad they are actually helpful
no one has even mentioned bent knees, no wonder I never got tail slides. I thought I had to dump all my weight on the tail. Thank you
this the only helpful skate tutorial I've watched you're a legend Dale love you

Bending the knees was key. That advice really helped me

Dale you gotta a tip for holding backtails
wheres that rail? looking for low flat bars like that for my part

Thank you!
bent knees=shorter body=less torque that the friction of the ledge has on your body. Therefore, bent legs=less of a chance of you sticking during a tail/nose slide
Is this true for grinds also , like crook grinds

Perfect ledge for a front tail 😍
