It was because of Chief King I made it through the back then Durham Public Safety. Thank you for your wisdom and believing in me, that I could. I will miss you.

What a wonderful story. As a brand new student at NCCU in 1977 this was the first time that I saw an all black fire station. Me and my dad went in and everyone was nice to us. Daddy had wanted to be a fireman and ended up working for Norfolk/Southern RR. This gentleman is special and a book needs to be written on this by his family.

I was the director of fleet managment during Chief King's last four years. We met early on in my career. I immediately like the man. We flew to Chicago for an issue involving a mass vehicle fire. He was definitely one of the good guys.
