- Greg Biffle is one of the most interesting drivers in recent memory in NASCAR. With a career that has incredible highs and relatively high lows the former driver of the #16 Ford is a driver that plenty of fans can’t quite gauge right. So today, thanks to popular demand, I will be answering one question. How good was Greg Biffle?

How would you rank Greg Biffle all-time in NASCAR?
69th 😏
Above average in his prime
One of the top 50 best drivers.
29th
69
He was always solid, but when Roush fell apart he fell apart. I don't think it was his fault that he didn't do great from 2014-2016. Also, let's not forget his 89 race DNF free streak. That should honestly get him into the Hall of fame.
89 races? Dang, not even Kyle Busch or Kevin Harvick could do that.
@@nascarsam6161 Yeah. If you want to do that you have to keep mistakes at a bare minimum and have great luck. With the DVP existing, it will probably never happen again.
@@Austin_Windric true but to be fair they win alot more lmao
I honestly didn’t know Greg Biffle for any other person than “The Guy With The Cool Number”
What about Biff the Pooh watcher of south dunsburry
The cool name tho
Only 2 words to describe Greg Biffle's NASCAR career
DA BIFF!!
I always like Biffle. I'd put him up there with Jr as talented. Both could've done better with some luck but nothing to sneeze at. Plus Biffle running the 69 in SRX reminded us all how awesome he was.
He was born in 69...
Like his voyeur self didn’t get a chuckle out of that…huh huh huh my car number is 69 huh huh huh
@@andybmx28 yeah but he also has a sketchy sex life with his wife and hidden cameras in the house
In 2004, he was the only non-Chase driver to win multiple races
The Biff was a childhood favorite, the lettering on the 16 and the National Guard scheme are ICONIC
He was easily the most underrated driver of the 2000s. He had a ton of talent just when roush fell off the cliff after 2012 so did Biffle. If he was in an SHR or JGR car I would argue he would have had many many more wins
Not to mention in the young guns era, Biff was a 34 year old rookie. If he was 10 years younger, who knows?
Same goes for Clint bowyer
@@tonystewartfan2014 a lot of people forget Clint had 3 top five points finishes. Which, is comparable to a lot of drivers. Clint and Greg were grinders, with an old school ability to get to the end of the race. No coincidence that if you look at the all time consecutive finishes, they are both up there. Unfortunately the sport moved away from that kind of talent. I'm not sure if it's a direct relationship to the drop in horsepower, but every team has reliable engines these days. Clint was hanging with Jeff and Jimmie in 2007 for several chase races because of that consistency, and obviously didnt have the speed.
2005 and 2012 in my opinion were biffles best years. Had stuff gone his way he couldve won both seasons
2008 same thing
So true. I Always felt sorry for all the shit luck he'd have right at the wrong times. Biffle deserved at least one Cup title and ten more wins. Great driver
Also, I wish he had gotten to the Cup Series sooner. Being a 33 year-old rookie means you're only gonna have like 10 competitive seasons as a driver.
I mean u gotta a point like if he had started in like 1994 then he would’ve won more races and possibly a cup championship as well as an xfinity and truck championship
This man should’ve won a championship in his career.
@JSGOAT99 and the xfinity series championship also
There was a talladega race when biff was in the bush series that he had a severe hangover. He partied with my parents too hard. The next day he was passed out on our camper floor. He only woke up because my dad woke him up. The cars were already on track for qualifying. The track medical team rushed him to the care center to pump fluids into him.
Greg Biffle has always been an under appreciated driver in my eyes. He had some really good years like 2005 and 2012, but also some really bad years like 2003 and the last three seasons of his career (2014-2016). I believe he was one of the top 15 greatest drivers who never won a championship.
_How good was Greg Biffle?…_
Well in simple terms you could say his career was quite… *_nice._*
I guess you can say the same about his SRX number
Biggest team driver EVER
Excellent driver. Since he was a "late-bloomer" took every opportunity given just at the time teams were snapping up "young guns" signing 19-21 years olds and pushing them to Cup immediately. He won gradually in all three series. He shown not only to be a winner but took care of his equipment. Consider the amount of drivers who drove Roush 16 he's the only one who brought it home to victory lane. He returned to one-shot truck race and still won three years after he last driven in a NASCAR affiliated event. His loyalty to Roush hurt him in his last three years of his career.
2012 may have been Greg Biffle's best season on average
But 2005 takes the cake for the best season of his entire career
Do a video about top 10 best trophies in NASCAR
He was good enough to have 19 wins; could've been 20 at Talladega 2015.
Biffle's first and last wins could've come at a superspeedway being seconds ahead of second because of a fuel mileage
Could've been 20 at Talladega 2014 as well. I'll go to the grave believing that if the wreck on the frontstretch didn't happen he would've passed Denny for the win.
He got robbed during that mess. They literally waited until he pit to give the one to go
Biffle is over 50? Holy shit I'm getting old lol
He was so close to winning a bunch of Superspeedway races in the COT era, he was definitely a highly underated Restrictor Plate racer
He's definitely underrated, but with so many wins in Cup, in Infinity, and in Trucks, I definitely feel he belongs in the Hall of Fame. If Hornaday is in the Hall for Truck dominance, then Biffle should be in the Hall for all-around excellence, and success at all levels of NASCAR driving.
Hornaday was the Richard Petty of the truck series
Biffle was fine at every series
If Biffle came into NASCAR sooner, he could've gotten close to 30 career wins
My favorite Biff stat is that he’s retroactively the 2012 Regular Season Champion.
I’m still not sure how he was leading the points after 26 races. It was one of the most lowkey good Chase-era regular seasons of all time.
Definitely his most consistent season. Had he performed better in the Chase, he could have become the first to win a title all top 3 divisions. According to Racing-Reference's non-Chase standings, he would have only lost the championship by 19 points to Keselowski.
@JGR4LIFE I think that year actually matches up with the Winston Cup. Brad sneaks in to win the title over all of them in a full-season format.
'Berg has a video on it, I think.
Listening to this makes be miss the old points system.
He was better than average in the 2000s and would probably dominate against today’s generation
Always liked Biffle. i remember him running the last 2 or 3 laps of a road course race with only 3 tires.
I’ll put him slightly higher than your choice. I watched him from his start at Portland speedway and road courses. I watched him give long real talking session after races with his fans. I saw him loose the championship when he was taken out by a very dirty Harvick move, like we saw again recently. He responded without anger and saw Harvick as a trustworthy team mate; who should have been a teammate instead of (in my opinion) a pathological (or a possible brain injured) double crosser. I hope he is having a good life. He was a kind, honest and committed team player. His later frustrations with a failing team is understandable but he maintained his loyalty.
Biffle's career sank with Roush Fenway Racing. I wish he left Roush at the end of the 2012 season.
Biffle had some amazing paint schemes over the years. His 2006 Subway car is so sexy.
I always liked Greg Biffle. I never really talked about how much I liked him, so he was never really at the time one of my favorite drivers. A year after he retired, I didn’t even notice he was gone. One day I was just like, “Wait, where’s Greg?”. As I kid I didn’t pay attention to much NASCAR related news, so I didn’t really hear about him retiring. In my opinion I think he’s a bit underrated, but I’ll always like him
He didn’t retire. He was actually fired for a scandal that he pulled that made everyone lose respect for him
@@ianwidick87 Wow your kidding. I looked it up, it said he went to court with his wife or something. He payed her $250,000 for like, invasion of privacy I guess. That’s crazy. Well now I know what happened to him lol
@@berryboiblast yeah he had cameras in the bathroom and recorded his mom and wife and showed it to teammates. So that’s why on Twitter and shit you’ll see people calling him a perv and all that. I didn’t realize that was how much he had to pay though. So yeah that is what happened to him
When I watched NASCAR religiously (from '08 to about '12) Carl Edwards was my favorite driver. As such, I got to know and love the other Roush guys. Biff was always my second favorite followed by the quiet Kenseth. The tragedy is that I'm attracted to cheer for guys with good, genuine personalities, which doesn't always equate to skill or more often equates to runner up finishes :D
Plus his name is fun to say!
He came closer than anyone to winning a championship in all 3 top series
If he had left Roush sooner like Edwards and Kenneth and went to let’s say Stewart Haas or even RCR I bet he would have had at least one more win and a few more decent to good years.
In his day, I think he was one of the top drivers in cup. Being a fellow Washingtonian, I always routed for him to do well. I remember his first career win like it was yesterday as I watched in the morale tent while deployed. Great video as always
Never change ur outro man
Loyalty killed his career. Shoulda jumped ship like Matt and Carl before it was too late.
I'll give him credit for that. He loved that team. Even when it was falling apart. Also his age could've affected his ability to find another competitive car.
Nothing wrong with loyalty. Nobody expected Roush to fall apart as fast as it did though. He was pretty much screwed his last couple years
@@packisbetter90 nothing wrong with loyalty… just wish he didnt have to spend his last years working at a daycare for trevor bayne and wrecky spinhouse
Biffle was really good, but being really good in the 2000s was not good enough. Super stacked decade
I think right before was good enough to win a cup championship and be the only champion to win across all three major divisions
But I also think the roush equipment held him back
Biffle is also very much an underrated
I believe most would say it was more of a Roush issue over a Biffle issue once the downfall started.
Kaulig needs to borrow the font for the 16
2005 is Greg Biffles only championship caliber season in cup. I do think being so loyal to Jack Roush is what really killed his career. I really think he just left because of nothing notable coming up competitively for a ride.
He led the championship standings for a good part of the season in 2012, but struggled a bit during the Chase. In a non-Chase format, he would have finished 2nd. According to Racing-Reference, he would have only lost the championship by 19 points.
He was always my favorite driver growing up
Hey, the iceberg, I have an interesting topic for a video. You should do a video about the top nascar commentators. if Mike joy decides to retire in the near future, who would take his place?
Should have jumped ship like Matt and Carl, his problem was he was to loyal to Jack
Greg Biffle would also take home the 2000 Most Popular Craftsman Truck Series Driver award the same year he won the championship in that series, and the 2002 Most Popular Busch Series Driver award the same year he won the championship in *that* series.
His loyalty ended up hurting him in the end
Greg will always be my favorite.
I think Biffle fits well in that tier with the Labontes, Jeff Burton, and Dale Jr. Good driver with solid careers. But never really a consistent championship contender
Both terry and Bobby won championships
@@jwrailve3615 bobby looked like he fell off a cliff after his 2000 championship
Similar to dale jarret too, jarret was older when he got to cup as well
Y’all forget he beat Johnson at Texas in 2012. I think it’s still the fastest average speed in NASCAR history.
Hey! He’s from where I live… Vancouver, Washington!
my favorite driver growing up was Biffle. i think he deserves more credit than people give him.
That makes sense he was older when he raced in Trucks, he knew how hard he could push it and when to back off.
17 truck wins in 83 starts is pretty good
He was a rarity from the early 2000s, back then you had like 10 guys with 10 plus wins out on the track at any time and even the mid pack was filled with talented drivers who had already won. Racing back then required quite a bit of skill to make it in the top division.
Who’s here after biff is back?
Got recommended to me lol
If Kenseth and Edwards both make the hall of fame, Biffle easily should make it. His DNF steak is something no modern driver will ever match, not with the way restrictor plate races are and the ever increasing aggression. Besides, the was also the Xfinity year where he raced just 26 of 35 races and still got a 10th place points finish, in a full season points format!
Would he be better in today's go for it format
Roush really had several all time greats to never win Cup titles
Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards both still had more years in them
Biffle needs to get back into the trucks series full time he could teach the younger drivers a thing or 2
As someone who grew up watching Greg in Late Models and following his career, he was hindered by Roush Equivalent. I really wish he would have taken the offer from Joe Gibbs that he was offered. I think Greg would have been closer to 30 wins in the cup series and won a championship in all three levels. HOF wise I believe he will be on the outside looking in, die to his performance in the cup series. But he domination in the lower two series might just give him the nudge needed to crest the hump needed. Darrel Waltrip always said Biff is one of the greatest Wheelman ever. Benny Parsons told Roush to hire him or he will be beating you soon.
When did he have an offer from JGR? I know he was close to going to MWR for 2015, which with hindsight probably would've just ended his career a year earlier.
@@StarTheKid16 Joe Gibbs made him several offers over the years. K would have to go look to see Greg's contract years, but JGR wanted Greg for years, but Greg stayed loyal to Roush.
Honestly, I think the biff is a very underrated and overlooked driver. In my points format that I made, he finished 2nd in 2012 and was actually very close to winning it all.
He led the championship standings for a good part of the season in 2012, but struggled a bit during the Chase. But yes, in a non-Chase format, he would have finished 2nd. According to Racing-Reference, he would have only lost the championship by 19 points.
Personally I'd put Biffle in the same group as Martin, Kenseth, Edwards, Gordon and Johnson. He was an excellent driver in his prime, just like the aforementioned drivers, however like anyone else if the equipment wasn't good, he wasn't good. And being an older driver when he finally made it to the Cup level, I feel like a lot of his best years were never really realized.
Had Biffle made it into Cup earlier, I bet he'd have at least a couple championship trophies on his shelf, and maybe had the experience he needed to overcome that loose lugnut at Texas before it happened in 2005. Biffle almost always had a cool head, even when things weren't going his way and the amount of equipment he DIDN'T tear up is a testament to that statement.
Give Biffle a good car and a decent team and you can watch him command a race on a Sunday. Unfortunately with the decline of Roush since 2013, his age, and his seemingly unwavering loyalty to Jack Roush while the ship was sinking, Biffle was a back marker through the last year of his career with an ever changing paint scheme. A lot of people who didn't grow up watching the sport around the era of 2005 and maybe didn't start picking it up til about 5-6 years later never really got to witness Biffle's talent live and truly understand just how quietly dominant he could be. It was like Roush found a way to take the best of Matt Kenseth and Mark Martin and put it behind the wheel of the 16 car and point him in the direction of the checkered flag. He was never the flashiest most marketable driver, but he was solid.
When he drove the 16 car, he was Greg Mother Fucking Biffle.
I'd definately put The Biff above Ryan Newman, but probably below Matt Kenseth, since Matt one a Championship, with that said though, if i had to put a number on it he's within the top 60 all time drivers, but i feel as though as time goes on he'd fall futher down. When Biffle was on his game, he was really good, but growing up I never really considered him a championship contender throughout the majority of his career.
I'd put Ryan ahead of Biffle personally. You could make an argument that Newman was the greatest qualifier of all time, or at least on his way to being it until the COT came along. And what Newman did in 2019 was flat out impossible. I like Biffle, but he would not have pulled that off.
Biffle is a part of jack roush fenway along with Mark Martin , Jeff Burton , Matt Kesenth , David Ragan and Carl Edwards .
Was*
Him and Kinsey’s very underrated
He was great! One of my top 10 favorite drives in those days. He raced hard and clean. It sucks he fell apart when Roush did. Sadly he decided to step away from NASCAR for a while but made a return a couple of years ago as a part-time driver for some low budget racing team. Oh well. 😕
When he won at Michigan I had a feeling that would be his last Cup win
I’m glad I got to be there for it. I really began appreciating his talent in 2012. Wish I had sooner
Can next time talk about Bill Elliott career?
Had Roush only ran 4 cars in the mid 2000s he and Edwards would probably both have a championship. I think with 5 cars they stretched their resources too thin.
You hit the nail on the head. He got a late start for sure and later in his career Roush completely fell apart. That wasn't Biffs fault. After stepping away he returns to win 🏆 a one time race in the truck series? That was a bad ass moment. He doesn't get the respect he's due no doubt... #16
There was a time in the mid 2000's that if he showed up with that Post It car, you knew he was going to dominate the race.
If Jr is in the hall of fame then biff should be as well. If you take away jrs last name he is just another driver with a good but not great career! Biff is the same thing, great in trucks, great in xfinity and solid in cup.
He absolutely kicked ass in the truck series and dominated XFINITY in the early 2000’s with the #60 Ford. Unfortunately once roush fell off so did he. Him winning at Texas in 2019 was pretty cool though.
Greg's DNFless streak and his overall low amount of DNF's is a great stat to have. That does put him higher on my list than some others.
Loving the Instagram post updates of the new video! Good idea man
YES YES MAKE MORE VIDS BOUT THE BIFF PLEASE I AM BIG BIFFLE FAN
Most all-time Cup wins without a short track victory.
Championship winning level good, one of my favorite drives definitely
i agree
Super talented, loyal to a fault. Just imagine if he went to Gibbs or a Hendrick
Idk how good Greg boggle was but I really like his 2007 dodge dealers 400 scheme
NASCAR drivers are really dependent on the rules packages. Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffle were completely opposite drivers it seems because when Gordon was great...Biffle sucked. And when Biffle was great...Gordon sucked.
He should have won the championship in 2005 in cup
Biffle coulda been a champion if things had gone absolutely right in 2005
He deserves a spot in the HOF
Should have left Roush after 2006. Best wheelman I ever seen.
THE BEST Driver TO NOT win a Cup Series Championship... period... I would rank him right up there with Dale Jr. AND Mark Martin..... so underrated it is PERSONALLY CRIMINAL...
I always felt Rouch always gave him the hand me downs compared to Edwards, Martin, Busch ect. He did what he did with pure skill, I think he could have been way bigger with the better toys
Biffle was good I wasn't a big fan but I respected him.
Greg biffle's numbers are incredible 👏
If u consider his all around success and age at that success he's a hall of famer
Biffle became my favorite driver when Jeff Burton retired. I pulled super hard for him in 2015 and 2016, but Roush sucked so bad then. I still think he would have won the 2015 fall Dega race on fuel mileage if McMurray didn't blow up. I wish someone would give him a full-time truck ride.
thanks for the vid saw him do interview pre race at dover
I was there when he won in Pocono. Not that day, but on days he won, he dominated. I thought he would become the first driver with all 3 championships, but Roush fell off too much. I thought he was great!
Always remember:
Stick with the Biff
I feel like Greg Biffle is an underrated, he really should have left Roush when the getting was good after Kenseth and Edwards left. Put him one of those Gibbs cars like Edwards or Kenseth got into and he would have won some races. RCR would have been a good fit for Greg too and team him with Austin Dillon and Jeff Burton. In another situation, he could have been the only driver to complete the trifecta of winning titles in all 3 top divisions of NASCAR, that would have been a big deal.
He may not have been the greatest but his car is iconic easily one of my favorite cars of all time
His schemes were always amazing
@@packisbetter90 facts I always loved the font of the 16 and that bright yellow looks amazing it always mixed with every sponsor and color he had
Yep. The 3M ones especially 2011 were awesome
@@packisbetter90 my personal favorite was the blue Sherman Williams maybe can’t remember the sponsor but I remember the car was blue and white
Edit: it was filtrete lol
The Scotch Tape Blue was great too
Kenseth was always my favorite driver, but I always liked seeing the biff do well. (Along with all the roush drivers) His paint schemes were always super clean too
