    Germany: Air shows are prohibited because it is far too dangerous
    USA: family members sit on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier and watch how planes land or take off 15 meters away.

      @@TheRebelliousGerman Sorry according to this the altitude restrictons for acrobatics is 1500 feet in the US.

      1500 feet is 457.2 meters so basiclly the same rules as in Germany.
      And these F/A 18 planes were higher than and touch and go landings are not acrobatics.

      I was on the USS George HW Bush when they went on their first cruise. Absolutely amazing experience and makes you proud to be an American. hen those F 18s land then shoot back off, you feel the power in your chest . I thought we ate good in the Air Force but the navy has it beat

    Wow thats pretty awesome, getting the families and loved ones on board to experience the work. While most of the real work they will never see its definitely a morale booster. It may be cliche but that fact is families serve to!

    A great experience for the families!!! Remember going on "tiger cruise" '88 USS Midway with my brother. My dad is the reason I joined the military!!

      It was great, our family had a great time, we had to be there at 5:00 am and the Truman was sailing when all this was going on, we didn't get back to port until 7:30 that evening. We ate breakfast, lunch and supper. Games were on the ship, the military had entertainment, it was Awesome to, especially after being raised up in a Marine family. ☺🐬

    I remember doing this back when I was a kid but that's when they had the tomcat an intruder an prowler with the e2 Hawkeye. Was awesome to see the prowler fuel hooked up to the intruder and the tomcat braking the sound barrier

    *As beautiful as that is imagine how stressful it must be to know that you are NOT only landing on a ship at sea but have hundreds of spectators watching so closely! I wonder if they have to sign a waiver releasing liability in case something happens, I’m a Marine but had a few Navy buds and they always talked about how the “flight deck” was the most dangerous place to be*

    Pretty cool that families were able to be on deck for launch and recovery. That was never allowed in my day. I am surprised, especially for recovery.

    Let me ask a dumb question .... In a lot of videos of Navy aircraft in action, I'm only seeing F-18's for some reason. Very rarely, I see one or two older videos that show F-14's in action. Is this just my imagination, or is/has the Tomcat been phased out of the Navy's inventory?

    looks like the flight deck got a paint job, and the flight deck crew got new jerseys. worked as an ame troubleshooter on the uss forrestal years ago. best job i ever had.

    Ok this is cool but why so close to the runway? Theres clearly a lot more space left further behind the deck and it would be much safer there.

    Thank God I was able to join the Navy before the last of the F14's were decommissioned. Those things were such intimidating beasts.

    I’m watching this through my phone because that’s the only way i can view this. Half the people on the that deck viewed the whole damn thing through their phone because they were videoing. What a waste.

    Admittedly, I don't know much about the carrier operations....but I have seen stock footage where aircraft crash on the deck, explode on the deck, arresting cables snap and kill, and air shows where aircraft crash into the crowd. As neat as this would be, I'm amazed a flag officer would ever approve such an event!
