Wow thats pretty awesome, getting the families and loved ones on board to experience the work. While most of the real work they will never see its definitely a morale booster. It may be cliche but that fact is families serve to!
It was great, our family had a great time, we had to be there at 5:00 am and the Truman was sailing when all this was going on, we didn't get back to port until 7:30 that evening. We ate breakfast, lunch and supper. Games were on the ship, the military had entertainment, it was Awesome to, especially after being raised up in a Marine family. ☺🐬
I remember doing this back when I was a kid but that's when they had the tomcat an intruder an prowler with the e2 Hawkeye. Was awesome to see the prowler fuel hooked up to the intruder and the tomcat braking the sound barrier
*As beautiful as that is imagine how stressful it must be to know that you are NOT only landing on a ship at sea but have hundreds of spectators watching so closely! I wonder if they have to sign a waiver releasing liability in case something happens, I’m a Marine but had a few Navy buds and they always talked about how the “flight deck” was the most dangerous place to be*
How cool for the families...When I was a PJ in the AF we had a Wife and GF day where we took em up in a C-130 and did a ramp jump for them....Great days in my life...
Let me ask a dumb question .... In a lot of videos of Navy aircraft in action, I'm only seeing F-18's for some reason. Very rarely, I see one or two older videos that show F-14's in action. Is this just my imagination, or is/has the Tomcat been phased out of the Navy's inventory?
looks like the flight deck got a paint job, and the flight deck crew got new jerseys. worked as an ame troubleshooter on the uss forrestal years ago. best job i ever had.
I’m watching this through my phone because that’s the only way i can view this. Half the people on the that deck viewed the whole damn thing through their phone because they were videoing. What a waste.
Admittedly, I don't know much about the carrier operations....but I have seen stock footage where aircraft crash on the deck, explode on the deck, arresting cables snap and kill, and air shows where aircraft crash into the crowd. As neat as this would be, I'm amazed a flag officer would ever approve such an event!

Tiger Cruises were always fun.
Very impressive!
Talk about pressure to not screw up... with civilians so close.
I thought the same thing. God forbid, one accident and you'll never see that show again.
I was thinking the same thing, about a wire separation
No kidding, its so cool I did not know they did this.

Don’t worry, they put all the mother in laws down the dodgy end.
Whoever goes on those royal Caribbean cruises and Disney cruises can brag all they want I would much rather do this tbh

If you cruise in Southern California or down to Mexico the Navy will do a fly-by from time to time
Agree.
This video brings back memories when my father and I did the Family Day Cruise on the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN IN 97.. Thank for the memories.

Always a beautiful thing for our families to actually see what we do. Love this tradition go Navy 1991 to 2018.

Is this only for the families that have a family member that’s is currently in the NAVY?
Yes, friends and family.
And I was thinking like, "Don't fuck up this one."
I would have love to be on that ship ... that’s so cool !!
Damn that is some front row air show seats.
Ok this is cool but why so close to the runway? Theres clearly a lot more space left further behind the deck and it would be much safer there.
I miss the Navy trying to go back reserve in a few months
Is it only for the family and friends of the crew members of the aircraft carrier so not for everyone else.
How did they came there?
Cable snaps, first row is gone.
That cable ain't gonna snap
It's inspected daily
Wow, that was exciting!
What would happen if a cable snapped?
Wow, Tiger cruises sure have changed since I was in. You'd never see a crowd on the starboard side like they during launch and recovery.
The coolest bring your kids to work day ever!
Now this is the ultimate cruise experience
Awesome idea for the NAVY to allow visitor's on the aircraft carrier and also with a air show. Never knew they allowed this.
Incredible
Well at least these parents are justifiably proud....salute to their good work...
Bless our service members...heard an incident where the arresting cable snapped, as the jet hooked on, and cut one of the deck crew in half!
I'm shocked there wasn't a Sonic boom. If there was you got hosed .

He wasn't supersonic.
how do all these people come on board?
Nice fast passes, but no BOOM! On the Connie we always shook the crowd by breaking the sound barrier for them.
Thank God I was able to join the Navy before the last of the F14's were decommissioned. Those things were such intimidating beasts.

Most likely approvals for events such as these come from the Pentagon or DoD.
