Saw the new DUNE a few days ago (in Germany, mind you) and loved it. Yet I had to think about this documentary so many times while watching the movie. Mezmerizing stuff.
There are two paths Alejandro Jodorowsky's "Dune" could've went through if it had gotten made; one is it's panned and hailed as a sci-fi disaster by critics, but his avid fans completely loves and will defend it no matter what; and the other is Dune purists would've teared it to shreds, but it eventually became a cult classic in the sci-fi genre upon re-evaluation.
From the passion of Jodorowsky, the talent of the artists, producers and actors he had on board, there is a small chance it could have been the best Sci-Fi ever made
It's nice to feel that while Alejandro didn't get to make what he wanted, he has somewhat been vindicated by Dune 2021's success where every other adaptation failed. It's a hell of an achievement that at one point was deemed impossible to adapt.
@@AdamSandler69xx Yes. I love the fact that Jodorowsky was so happily enthusiastic about the project, despite really great odds against pulling off his specific vision.

So I think it would be cool if Jodorowsky direct an adaptation of his own graphic nivel: The Incal.
It is an eternal shame that this movie was never made! Although i really like David Lynch's "Dune" (1984), this was a completely different view on the story. 14 hours running time, Brontis Jodorowsky as Paul, Dali as the emperor, The designs, the costumes... Alejando Jodorowsky just wanted to make the best SF movie possible. I want to see this movie soo badly. But the only thing that stops me is that this movie was just never made...

Jodorwsky´s project was too ambicious...but, i think it deserves an oportunnity. Even though, we have to consider that this movie was designed for the seventies audiencies, so it may needs an adaptation for the modern days audiencies. However, Jodorwsky´s Dune deserves a chance, at least. Greettings from Chile =) .
As someone who likes LSD and Psilocybin and The Holy Mountain, I’m sad I never got to see this film realized... As a sci-fi fan, a fan of the NOVEL, Dune, and someone who can’t stand when an adaptation truly bastardizes a brilliant piece of literature (ahem-TheDarkTower-cough*), I’m SO GLAD this film was never made.
I was skeptical the first ten seconds of this. especially, when he said he didn't read the book , but Dune is so rich with ideas that someone else explaining it with enthusiasm could spark this. who knows. Maybe the world would be different if this came to fruition.
Dune needed a director who could do both visuals, coherent storytelling, and direct actors effectively. I'm sure this guy is great with his visuals and concept. But, Dennis was able to do most if not all that was needed successfully.
When I read about this movie that never was, I felt that it was all the delusions of a crazy drugged up man from Chile who didn't even care about Dune. Seeing this documentary, you just can't help but root for Jodorowsky. You wish his vision had succeeded because he's like a little child talking about it, and you just want the child to be happy. It doesn't matter if he's not trying to make Dune, all that matters is he had a vision inspired by it. The point of his movie wasn't adapting Dune, it was about, as he said it, changing the world, and how movies were made forever. On paper, no serious studio or producer would consider any of this for more than 5 seconds. But when Alejandro sells it to you, you buy it.
Emmmmm. This guy has that white light around him like col. Kilgore or something. He's like the first one into the breach as a human army takes on an alien horde and they all go out dying in a blaze of glory. What a Fookin champ.
This was maybe the greatest visual project of the twentieth century. Even the concept alone was the mother of all science fiction and fantasy movies that we saw ever since. Do you guys really wish that our contemporary Hollywood industry makes this movie? I don't! What we saw in the last 15 years was nothing but terrible remakes of movies or the same scripts pulled over existing visual material like a mask. There is 0 innovation and 0 genius in any project due to the fact that the studios don't want to take any risk. The dune project never came to life because of Hollywood studios. Do you want them to rape it's dead body now? Dune is the best unfinished project ever made. Don't take it's magic by milking the shit out of it. You fucked every single great movie universe by now Hollywood; please at least leave dune alone!

@@organicwins91 stop crying lmao. keep living in your fantasy world where arrakis is full of color and rainbows. grow up
I wish someone would take all of Jodorowsky's notes and story boards and animate his movie.
I hope they make an animated tv series of jodorowskys dune.
This docu is one of the best Ive seen
About time my Dad gets some Respect. The Film Industry screwed us all over. I love you Dad. Best Dad Ever. 💕
The greatest of unfilmed movies
You are a madman. Mr. Jodorowsky. I mean that as compliment.
Saw the new DUNE a few days ago (in Germany, mind you) and loved it. Yet I had to think about this documentary so many times while watching the movie. Mezmerizing stuff.
RIP Giraud, Giger, Carradine.. Dali.. Orson Welles.. Herbert.. So many of them are gone now..
we are duned
I wish someone would make a movie of Jodorowsky trying to make his version of Dune.
Like an Ed Wood type movie
@@AdamSandler69xx Yes. I love the fact that Jodorowsky was so happily enthusiastic about the project, despite really great odds against pulling off his specific vision.
With John Malkovich as Jodorowsky.
@@caronstout354 That's an idea!
@@caronstout354 directed by Denis Villeneuve.
I didnt read dune but i had a friend who said to me it was fantastic...lmao yes my dude. Thats a good friend
As a chilean who actually speak in english, it is really funny listening how Jodorowsky speaks in english.
This movie will never be maked, it is obvious, we are getting a new Dune adaptation directed by Denis Villeneuve, and that's amazing. So I think it would be cool if Jodorowsky direct an adaptation of his own graphic nivel: The Incal.
The Incal as a movie, directed by Jodorowsky, would be ABSOLUTELY flipping, bat-shit-insanely AMAZING!
This movie would have been an acid trip rather than something that embodies the novel.
yep
It is an eternal shame that this movie was never made! Although i really like David Lynch's "Dune" (1984), this was a completely different view on the story. 14 hours running time, Brontis Jodorowsky as Paul, Dali as the emperor, The designs, the costumes... Alejando Jodorowsky just wanted to make the best SF movie possible. I want to see this movie soo badly. But the only thing that stops me is that this movie was just never made...
If you still have high hopes for seeing Jordorowsky's version, forget about it. The new Dune is set to begin production this summer with a release set for November 2020.
I loved this movie, the man is a genius.
To everyone just wondering what this could have been; please I urge you to investigate Jodorowsky's work on Graphinc Novels/comics. He created something known as "The Jodoverse" that is compromised of different sagas. El Incal (which has a prequel and a sequel), The Metabarons (which also has a sequel), The Technopriests, Castaka and Megalex. Visit the publisher "Humanoids" who are the one in charges to publish these amazing works of art!
I think some of the fantastic artwork here is by Chris Foss an amazing artist in his own right.
Just WOW! Damn.. this movie could have been amazing!
A burning giraffe seems like something a Harkonnen would need, not a Corrino. Still sounds rad as heck and I wish we could have seen it.
Interaction impacts.
Action speak louder than words.
Chase your missions.😊
At least give us the animated version the colors on the design alone would be mind blowing
Greettings from Chile =) .
w͇o͞oæ yo͞o spëçingle͞ex ëff östed̕abla'n span͠o?
This is really the movie equivalent to The Beach Boys' Smile album. Pop culture would look incredibly different if it had come out.
He had no business with it. No knock on him, but there is no reason this needed to be Dune other than financing.
David Gill ... so true... he might as well have renamed it after all that pre-production... “El Tiddly-Boo! (Loosely based on the concepts of Dune)”
So true lol. Just imagining them making a high fantasy epic like this into holy mountain is annoying me even thinking about it lol.
I was skeptical the first ten seconds of this. especially, when he said he didn't read the book , but Dune is so rich with ideas that someone else explaining it with enthusiasm could spark this. who knows. Maybe the world would be different if this came to fruition.
Yup, you can see how the movie ‘Alien’ picked up on the design concepts. Dali would have been perfect!
About to read the book and I'm very excited. Got to read it before the new movie comes out.
00:36 That lonely line defines Jodoworwski's mind at work at perfection ...
Alejandro Jodorowsky Is Pure Genius
So why haven't we witness any good movie from this man since that time if he's so brilliant? I never heard of this guy till Dune 2021 came out.
Any good movie? The holy mountain is one of the greatest moveis of all time
cause he basically stopped doing movies...go read his incal series or metabarons
@@JafuetTheSame not true, Poesia Sin Fin is a great film and Christopher Doyle was involved in the project as well.
What a shame this didn't get made.
Could be fantastic, yes!
The fact that these guys were and are on the same planet as you and me is fucking bananas
Denis Villeneuve looks great also and seems very loyal to the book. But this version looks out of this world.
Because the story is literally out of our own world..
Dune needed a director who could do both visuals, coherent storytelling, and direct actors effectively.
I'm sure this guy is great with his visuals and concept.
But, Dennis was able to do most if not all that was needed successfully.
I think this could have been eye candy for his vision of Dune.
It would never have worked but what an amazing folly it all was. Stupendous :)
And we will never see it! U_U Unless Jodoworoski makes a reboot YEEESSSSSS!!!!
One of the best docs I ever saw
Here we go again!
He’s the hero that Arrakis deserves...
The Trippy-colored Knight
This movie deserves a soundtrack from The Pink Floyd.
This is the movie we wanted
i hope they make this
This was maybe the greatest visual project of the twentieth century. You fucked every single great movie universe by now Hollywood; please at least leave dune alone!
well spoken. It is the differential field of signifiers that produces such semblkance as these, no?
I love how he speaking english with his chilean accent
La tonteria'censurable con numero e iteracion -en grande- torna en 'estilo'.
Damn, this guy didn't age since the holy mountain.
i wish this was made
Make it so!
Fabulous Jodo ❤️
Star Wars, Blade Runner, Alien, all the big scifi movies from 70/80, they drank the Jodorowsky's Dunes script book, that's a fact!
This documentary is very interesting, I hope Villeneuve watched it to!
@Garviel Loken Wait, did you said "stole"? 😂 Im sorry but nobody "stole" anything. Next time read my comment before write the reply. I said "drank"!!! I never said that someone stole anything from Jodorowsky. You should be working for CNN or MSNBC 🤣🤣🤣🤣
At least he made The Incal
Soon, soon... This will be made soon enough...
I'm not sure, is this a trailer for the Dune movie, or a trailer for a documentary about a movie that was never made?
Devo Castler Docu
The later. If it was made, we wouldnt be talking about Starwars.
@@matthewutech5970 how do we know it would've been that good though?
Sici Spies look at everything in the preproduction, it would have been unlike anything we’ve seen
Sici Spies I would say it shows something trippy and self indulgent. If you like this guy you would probably be into this. It would not have been Dune, it would have been using Dunes name to get financed, then ignoring the source material in every way that matters. As for how great Jodo is, his 2mil lifetime box office speaks for itself. His movies aren’t narratives or stories, they are art house stuff.
I watched this documentary 5 years ago, now that Dune is coming out, I am a little disappointed it is not Jodorowsky's vision, with H.R. Giger's style.
I imagine the new Dune film will be a CGI fest and a kids film at heart with a beta male lead all made to look grown up and slick enough.
Such a shame we never got to see it completed
Micky Jagger , Dali e Orson Wells no mesmo filme. Eu pagaria para ver esse filme.
Honestly, for me it looks very weird. The tv show, no matter that it was bad, was the closest to how imagined things from reading the books.
Jodorowskys version was close to how I imagined them, the Tv shows entire look wasnt as imaginative, I guess they wanted a bit of the past in there, but I would want a more out of this world look.
Rented movie last night. It would have been awesome although he would have gone waaaaay overbudget with the excesses. Dali is Emperor? He wants $100K per minute? See ya. Paul dying at the end? The whole consciousness thing? Hmmm..... Orson would've been a great baron.
David Lynch’s dune is amazing!
I NEED TO GET A COPY OF THAT GIANT BLUE BOOK
Why this documentary isn't on the streaming platforms?
Denis villeneuve...don't fail us
O melhor filme que não tivemos
Where i can watch this documentary ?? Can anyone please help me .
