HEY NATHAN PLEASE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK , IT""S PHOTOGRAPHER LIKE YOU SELF KEEP PHOTOGRAPHY LIVE AND INSPIRED....LOVE YOURS BEAUTIFUL MODELS. BE BLESS
Nice! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. It surprised me a little with how much smoke it actually produces. I plan on using it with a little fan that I have to see how quickly I can haze a room.
It doesn't get much simpler than a one light set up. I loved seeing the variety of images you created with it. Inspiring and beautiful results as always.
This one of my favourite ways to shoot, I have a smaller space, I simply cut my 9ft to about 7ft to fit perfectly, I use a megaboom also, and get great results, your always inspiring Nathan, thanks again.
I always appreciate the effort you put into the production of your videos... I was intrigued by the smoke machine, it looked like a vape machine on steroids !! Cheers
I love your suggestion about not focusing so much on the gear but rather on the principals. Over the years, I've accumulated a ton of modifiers that I thought I couldn't live without. Well, 80% of them just collect dust. Well done as usual.
Love it dude! One light setups are so versatile, and they really let the model pop. It's my favourite way to go. I would love to see an episode where you talk about your backdrop setup and changing. I have my roll on a scaffold bar which is held up with two C stands, like your seems to be. I don't know if it's because I'm dumb or lazy or both but it always feels like a huge ball-ache to change a roll on your own.
No, a huge ball-ache is exactly what it is. I do have a system that allows me to put 3 rolls on a set of c-stands which I use if I know I am going to be using multiple colors in a shoot.
Thanks Nathan. I love the channel. I often tried the top down setup and I love it. It's a bit hard for the model to stay in the light cone because I had a small octobox. it results sometimes with really dark eyes. The light feathering was for me a constant struggle with the model moving. So a cool thing to show is how to correct improper light setup, common mistake and the way to fix them Keep it up with your amazing work
I'm impressed how easy it could be to work creative. And I agree it don't need much space everytime to realize cool ideas. My motto: What you can think, that you can do. Well done!!! 👏
i NATHAN YOUR VIDEO IS TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN, WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR S INSIGHT ON LIGHTING AND PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY SETUP .YOU"RE THE BEST , TEN POINTS...WOW....BE BLESS
Always enjoy watching you work! Yes, I would like for you to show us all the gadgets (ie: smoke canister) as we often don't know what exists. Thanks for sharing!
My fav is the second setup and how angles and positioning change an image totally .This is something I would love to master as I feel most of my images are so linear 😅.
When you show the images, I would have loved to see some of the metadata on aperture, ISO, etc, as well as your flash output settings. If that's a deliberate exclusion then that's perfectly fine, but its always helpful for me as someone less experienced with flash photography to work out starting points :D
great looks! im not going to say "i cant do this" because i dont have the gear. i can very easily spend the money and get the gear, its MODELS that i cant find. ive got a pretty good IG going from different shoots that ive been on but getting them on my own, is kinda hard. im not really near any metropolis where there's a bunch of gals looking to be photographed. anywho, GREAT images and that looks like a super space to use too
Wow great contents. Really like the lighting quality sooc images.Really impressive and gorgeous. Would you mind share the link for your tether cable you're using in this video? Thanks.
I agree with you about photographers thinking they can't do what you do because they don't have. . . My own view is you work with what you have and see what you can create. Yes it would be nice to have the large studio space and all the bells and whistles. But you can get surprisingly creative with very little gear. My wife and I went to a local conservation area and took some amazing images with her dressed in her 18th century wedding dress, we're historic reenactors. I used my nikon D7100 and a godox flash that I used off camera. Gave the images a ghost like effected in lightroom and went from there. Photography can be brutally expensive if you think you need the newest, biggest, brightest. I've seen other photographers frankly go stupid buying gear, when they should work with what they have and really learn to use that gear. Sorry didn't mean to preach. I really enjoyed your video and learned a lot. Thank you.
Hi Nathan. I love your videos and the tutorials that you give. You talk a lot about tethered capture, have you considered doing a video on that subject?
Interesting that you're using adapted F-mount Sigmas - I was under the impression there were compatibility issues with this combination? Have you had any problems using Sigma glass with the FTZ?
My Sigma 24mm and 50mm ART lenses work flawlessly. My Sigma 85mm ART hunted a lot on the FTZ adapter, so I ended up selling it and getting the 85mm f/1.8 Z
The color grade on these images is something new I am working on for color edits, but honestly, 90% of my color grading is just done using my C1 styles.
Hi Nathan, love your work and these videos! Can you tell us which laptop you're using? I think I'd like an alternative to Apple with really good battery life, but seems hard to find. Looks like you've got a windows based machine here so wondering what you're using. Thanks!
Strobepro heavy duty baby boom compared to the Cambo redwing using same modifier would be worthwhile for budget build segment given the CDN cost difference is around $1k; pros and cons more so than excuses for the grand difference using the same modifier as here. As always, good information.
Nice results ... I always wonder about the purpose of these shoots. Is that for the model portfolio? Cause I assume she was a client in this scenario :D.
I had some extra time and felt like playing around in the studio. Shoots like this are just for me to try various things and not feel like the only time I pick up my camera is when I’m being paid. This shoot was just a collaboration between myself and the model.
@@NathanElson lol yeah i feel like an idiot lol i figured out when i double clicked on it and my photoshop opened again sorry to bother you have a Great Day and thanks for the reply... 🍻
I think if there's a lesson here, it's that you cant be afraid of flash if you want to shoot portraits. A z6ii and sigma 50mm isn't by any means an exotically expensive setup in 2024 especially for a pro yet it will blow away any flagship camera and glass that is shot in an uncontrolled environment with poor lighting. Flash just gives you so much sharpness, 3d pop potential, and dramatic effect, it's a crime to yourself to not give it a go.
Z6II user here. Why are you focus and recomposing on a mirrorless camera? You realize the points move right? They are all phase detect so they are all equal to the center point.
I'm trying to figure out why this bothers so many people? It gets brought up all the time on my videos, so maybe you can be the lucky person to tell me why that is worth commenting on?

Nathan, Great photos! I love the different 1 light looks. Also, I happens to have just received the same smoke machine 2 days ago. Great minds.
Nice! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. It surprised me a little with how much smoke it actually produces. I plan on using it with a little fan that I have to see how quickly I can haze a room.
@@NathanElson Yeah I had the same experience . A little fan sounds like a great way yo defuse how dense it can get.
@@PhutureprimitiveMusic I have this battery powered fan which I think will work nicely on location: photo.nitecore.com/Product/cw30
@@PhutureprimitiveMusic Just tested, can confirm, works more like a hazer and less like a smoke machine.
This fan looks perfect for the job.! Thanks for reporting back. Purchasing. 🙂👍🏼

I'm using a Dell XPS15. It's a few years old, but I have been using the XPS15 line for probably the last decade and I am a big fan of them.
@@NathanElson thanks!
Cool video! Besides the images, I like that tiny smoke machine. Is it battery powered?
Yep. Rechargeable 😊
Link to the smoke machine please. Thank you
also what's the attachment are you using on the side to hold the cable? Thx.
It’s an attachment that comes in the box with the z6II for securing a tether cable.
What is the minimum softbox size to achieve this look?
I'd say 42", maybe you could pull it off with a 36".
@@NathanElson thank you 🙏
Can you go over the photoshop of the last pic please.
I think the distance between the model and the background is very important. And I put the softbox on the high level of the models chin
It is, makes a huge difference in how the final image looks.
Who came here from Chris & Jordan?
There has definitely been a few of you ;)

🙋🏻
Is there a 32 version of this benq monitor?
No, just 27". I have the Benq PD3200U for my desktop and it's awesome as well.
Nathan,Why do y move the camera down afyer y ,i suppose, make the focus?
I’ve used the center focus point for 15 years and it’s a habit I just can’t break 😆
What is your editing process ?
Strobepro heavy duty baby boom compared to the Cambo redwing using same modifier would be worthwhile for budget build segment given the CDN cost difference is around $1k; pros and cons more so than excuses for the grand difference using the same modifier as here. As always, good information.
I've had a chat with Jesse (owner of Strobepro), and I plan on making a video soon with super budget gear very soon. Should be fun.
My regards especially for shooting with NIKON, even with Z series.
What can I say, I like cameras for what they produce, not for what everyone else thinks is cool ;)
