Love this song during the corona 🦠 pandemic I was told to remain hopeful hang on to my faith and do not be Afraid and I think this song speaks the truth I love this song and I count my blessings and we will get through this we are at war with a virus and things will get better one day at a time.
I had this played for my moms funeral mass. I miss my time with her during Mass. It it is so comforting and I like to pray while Im listening to it. I also like you you sing it traditionally as that is how I l learned in school and Mass. Thanks Chris.
Thank you for sharing your gift of music, and thank you for singing this hymn as written. The timing is tricky and I'm trying to learn it the right way. Knew I could count on you to do it accurately - and beautifully! God bless.
It's so soothing to the soul. Thank you for singing this song. May God bless you ,fill you with His Love Joy and Peace by His Holy Spirit and to sing more beautifully for the praise and glory to His Holy Name. Through Christ our Lord.Amen. Love from Borneo. Praise the Lord!!!! Alleluia!!!
You are amazing!your voice is heavenly!Im a church choir and cantor and i always practice all the songs by just listening to you.Thank you so much for sharing your gift of music! God Bless you always❤️
Chris, your music always touches my soul, all of it. Thanks, Peace to all dear friends. Please remember our brothers & sisters 🙏 ❤ 😢 💙 💕 in Ukraine 🇺🇦 🙏 ❤ 💙 ♥
God bless you for this Chris. I will be leading the singing tomorrow at a dear friend's funeral and the family picked this piece which is new to me. Your recording has helped me to learn it. Thank you so much for singing it as written. Your are an answer to prayer, my brother in Christ
Thanks! From the beginning, I always wanted to record the videos so that you could clearly see both of my hands. I figured guitar players out there might want to know what I’m doing, and it’s kind of hard to describe it technically since I just do what feels appropriate, I’m not even sure what to call it lol
Beautiful song and guitar playing,Chris! I always practice my flute playing with you on line . You are very inspiring and you help me a lot in preparing for our Sunday choir.God bless you always.
I don't think I have commented here before today. If I have, I probably said the same thing as follows. Chris, you are extremely valuable to me as a guitarist in our churchs contemporary choir. You lay it out vocally as well as you do instrumentally. I thank you and my band mates thank you.
Chris, what I love most about your recordings is that your timing on the vocals is so precise. (No one seems to sing the 16th notes in this song as 16th notes!) I am often sharing your videos to my volunteer cantors to practice with. Thank you for your music!!!
So well done! I've heard way too many versions that smooth out the pick up notes in the verses or change the rhythms in the second verse completely, but this was perfect! Great job!
Thanks I really appreciate that. I think however you choose to do those notes at the beginning of the verses (8th notes or 16th notes) you need to do it smoothly and naturally. When I do my recordings I try to do them pretty faithfully to the music I'm looking at, not "perform" them with a bunch of stylization. Anyhow, blessings to you from PDX
That's what makes it hard to do at mass. The congregation wants to sing eighth notes, b/c that's how they know it/hear it. John Michael Talbot's popular cover eschews the sixteenths, so I blame him. :) Even for a good choir, the sixteenths can be a challenge.
Singing the 16ths (as written) serves no purpose other than fidelity to the written music. Eighths are more singable by the congregation and a choir, and sound far more natural to most. You sang and played this beautifully. Anyone trying to harmonize had better have an awfully good ear, and should limit it to the refrain.
Chris, do you have CD’s available for purchase? I love the way you sing these hymns. Makes me feel like I’m back in my childhood church. Too many other singers today want to alter these hymns and add too many flourishes. The way you perform them is classic.
Well I did record a CD quite a few years ago, but this song wouldn't be on it. If you go on iTunes you can find a few songs. My favorite recordings from that group are "Were I The Perfect Child Of God", the "Song of Farwell" and "May The Roads Rise Up". It wasn't a super professional recording, just something a friend helped me do. For now I'm content just putting things on RUclips. God bless you and thank you for listening
Chris, I was asked to perform this song at a recent memorial and found your arrangement to be the most inspiring for solo guitar. I hope you don't mind I learned your arrangement and performed it to a very grateful family. For anyone who wants to learn this, I have saved my transcription and have made it available to anyone at www.soundslice.com/slices/TZqcc/. All credit goes to Chris and if you don't wish me to publish it, please let me know and I will take it down.
Wow that is very cool. Not sure why I'm just seeing this now after 3 weeks! You absolutely have MY permission (but OCP is the copyright holder, so it's not really mine to give). I wouldn't worry about that...I have permission to record their songs. Great job! Curious, do you have a program that lets you do tabs like that or did you have to manually do it (one note at a time)? Blessings to you! Oh, I think my name on the soundslice page is wrong….missing the "e" at the end of Brunelle
Chris Brunelle Sorry about that, all corrected now. I wish there was a program that could transcribe all at once! Yeah I had to go note by note. Fortunately the progression is repetitive so I could just copy and paste many bars and take advantage of some music shorthand for repeating sections. Originally I did it in Guitar Pro for myself, but when I discovered Soundslice with its ability to sync up to videos, I’ve been working solely with it in order to share. I’m not very musically educated but have been learning the hard way and hoping my work could help others. I searched high and low for a good solo performance of this song to learn and yours is the best!
John, are you willing to take a stab at writing out (at least the intro) for this song? I've had a coupl of people ask about it and I thought of you and the work you did on this song : ruclips.net/video/9-rtvIF2Aeo/видео.html&lc=z22kjzhw3l2sw3xuoacdp434cvluj0oyiomyr2ogk5lw03c010c

Good sound Chris. I have been singing and playing this music for many years with a similar
finger style of playing. You do a great job!
Hmm...I guess I didn't leave a "Thank you, Chris!" the first time I listened to this. Here' goes: "Thank you, Chris!!"
You’re welcome! Twice!
Not only do I love your rendition of this, but sometimes I can pick up on your chording and play along!!! Love it and so does my prayer group!!!
