For people that can not mega evolve or dynamax you have to be in a battle and press it and attack it will mega evolve or press it multiple times

Which version are you using if you are using above 1.5.0 then you need to start a battle first and then you hold the the mega ring in your left hand and then click give your pokemon it's nite for example for blaziken it's blazikenite ❤❤❤
