Bought the Wildcat Trail new in the XT version in 2015. No problems. Gets to 110kmh pretty quickly. It has a true locking front diff and a very low range. The Fox shocks were easy to set up, ride excellent and smooth the 10" of ground clearance. I did not like the stock tires too much so I changed them ($400). Its not the new XX that is for sure but for this category it is the best by far in my opinion. Great video as always!
bought a 2015 wildcat 700 trail ( 50)Inch so far love it rides great, handles super will be running with 2 800 rxrs this next weekend will see comparison.
Canam just came out with their version of a 50 In. Machine, called a "Maverick Trail". It is 50 inches wide and has a 90.6 inch wheelbase. The 72 HP model has full doors standard.
Yamaha deserves all the credit for creating this segment. Before the rhino, the only "side by sides" were polaris rangers and kawasaki mules. Not hardly trail worthy.....
i have a 2017 i bought brand new, the thing is indestructible. my first artic cat and im now a fan, my next machine will be a wildcat XX. my trail has been just an incredibly durable and good working machine
thanks for the great vid and info, yes you nailed it we had a Polaris 850XP EPS and we sold it to upgrade to a RZR 900 EPS trail and we upgraded our trailer to a 8.5x18' enclosed trailer with 5200 lb axles w/radial tires
why longer?? do the people that design these things not have to put them on trailers to get them to the trail? my rzr800 and 5 quads barely fit in my 23' trailer, the last this we need is bigger
TheGoProLife 6 machines on one trailer, that's pretty good I think. A 5x10 trailer is big enough to haul one of these, that's not unreasonable. A compact truck or suv could easily tow a small trailer like that. Longer wheelbase is more stable, i.e. safer.
They're still shorter than the normal width 60" or more side by sides. Manufacturers won't build something with an atv length wheelbase except for the new Polaris Ace and I'm not exactly sure how you classify that one. I think its basically still considered an atv. I think they would be afraid a short wheelbase would be too easy spin out. The longer wheelbase can be an advantage in certain low speed trail situations as it gives a better approach and departure angle, less likely to snag the front or rear bumper on an obstacle. Longer wheelbase doesn't necessarily mean longer overall, they just moved the axles closer to end of the frame on both ends.
I get my AC Trail and my wife's 800 RZR 2010 on an 18' trailer with maybe 4" to spare. Would have more room but I have front and rear bumpers on both machines.
How about the Honda Pioneer 50" Good bad or so so ? The no belt feature should be good in deep water just like the atvs are ? A bit less power but also a bit more budget friendly. Any good reviews out there to watch ?
well not every body likes going at 40 miles hour on flat trails, some of us like going 70 mph on whoops that are 2ft deep out in open dessert and that's where long and wide wheel base is needed.
We are thinking of buying a side by side next spring. We have a gator 6x4 and love it but time for something new. We have atv trails that the gator fits on. I love the look of the full size wild cat and rzr more than the 50 inchers. We also need something that can haul trailers or ha cargo but is also fun. What's the answer? And help would be great. Thanks! Merry Christmas!
we usually go every memorial day weekend. we always reserve are favorite camping spot In January as soon a it lets us. its a fun place maybe I'll see you there sometime. when but we usually go back sometime in the summer or fall. not sure when or if we'll be able to cause this year were going to Hatfield and mccoys for a week. witch should be fun it will be are first time going there. chad wick in spring fields a cool place been there a couple times.
I bought a new Polaris 900 trail! and I think its major improvement from the old 800s and it beats the artic cat as well. I respect the artic cat. but I just don't think its quite as refined as the new Polaris. they don't have nearly as much experience in the sport side by side. I think they'll get there but not yet.
yamaha was the original pioneer of the sport side by side with the rhino. they only started putting doors on the as standard equipment because of the millions of dollars in lawsuits generated by the massive stupidity of the consumers that didn't have enough since to slow down while going around turns.
I have over 3000 miles on my 2014 Wildcat Trail no engine problems (or clutch) and I drive it hard including completing the Hole in the Rock trail at Lake Powell last September 2016
kong3 lol. You have a rebadged kymco. Those motors last for the same reason other korean junk like hyundai & kias last. They don't make enough hp to grenade themselves. www.atv.com/manufacturers/arctic-cat/2014-arctic-cat-wildcat-trail-review-2241.html
Every Arctic Cat Trail I have ever ridden with can't even go through a 6 inch deep puddle with out blowing fuses. Polaris 570 all the way! I love my 570!
I'm sure you were sponsored by arctic-cat which I believe can-am and Polaris both have arctic-cat beat in performance, the 50" segment article is great a lot of people don't understand you are going to miss out on a lot of unique and awesome places you can not get to on big sideXsides from my past experience in northern Michigan!!!
Only talking about 50" Polaris Can-am etc great machines and another discussion if this was about 900's and 1000's. But when AC WC came out it was a total blowout. Now Po had dropped the 800 and upgraded the 50" 900 rzr. Po also comes in 50, 60, 70" wide. 50" width trails and 1000#'s or less is where the Forrest Service was heading for some years. If you want to go everywhere, the 50" is the machine. I have a WC Trail XT and a 2010 RZR 800 LE. They are both great but the WC Trail is superior UNTIL now... with the new 900 50. (Except the RZR costs more)
kong3 u forget. its 1000 pounds or less as well as 50". the rzr 900 is 1174 pounds dry. that means even tho its 50" u still cant go down those trails. that means its completely useless for its intended purpose. also looking at its weight in comparison to the wildcat trail. the trail and the rzr900 have almost the exact same power to weight ration. with 15.64 pounds per HP in the 900 and 15.71 pounds per HP in the wildcat. meaning the 900 is same speed as the cat and its almost 5 grand more expensive. sorry but in my opinion the cat wins hands down.
djwasted87 Price for base model to base model is +$900 for Polaris base model. +$1000 diff for Eps models. 1000# limit is not same everywhere so be sure to check. Even 50" isnt same everywhere with some areas becoming more restrictive and some becoming less. Weight ratios not withstanding Po is faster period, ive driven the eps model. Love my WC but appreciate what Polaris has done. Wife has Po 800 le. If their dealers didnt suck so bad out here, id buy a new Polaris trail EPS tomorrow.
Jake Bishop Can am has no 50" representative. I can see them coming out with an 800cc 50" wide Maverick because they're losing millions in sales by not having this segment represented.
I had a Rhino 700. Doesn't even compare to the new 50" (Rhino was taller and wider) Rhino was a solid machine but a whole different animal. Top speed was what 45 mph or something. WC Trail I've had mine to 66mph at 9000' altitude. Hits 60-62 pretty quick but hits 55+ fast. And the acceleration is stunning.
I'm more into the multi purpose sxs I need a sxs that's good for work and play I'm gonna go after the prowler 1000xt arctic cat yamaha and suzuki all have one thing in common they use the same centrifugal cluch in other words they never go through belts and you can go places that the polaris can't go in high range you have to put the polaris in low in mud arctic cat can be in high range in mud just like yamaha sxs can and arctic Cats don't go through cv boots like crazy like polaris does nothing against polaris their still better than honda but polaris needs to start working on a cluch like yamaha and arctic Cat uses it would benefit them and would prevent belt wear and they need to address the cv boot problem and they would be beastly
50" sxs,s suck, I own one and when pushing them they are tippy so much so I put 2" spacers to give me a 4" wider track, that helped but unless you drive like a old man or old woman it still sucks so I'm getting rid of it and going 64 and I can still go most everywhere, oh and BTW I'm two weeks away from 64 and I need my speed even on the trails
You`re right in that the higher center of gravrity of the 50 inch rzr will be more prone to tipping than the 50 inch wildcat trail that has a lower center of gravity which enables it to corner faster as well! The only advantage the rzr has over the wildcat is an inch of ground clearance , which can be easily fixed by swapping larger tires on the WC trail
Shaky Hand Pictures yes, opinions are like assholes. Facts on the other hand are few and far between. The fact is, 50" sxs are the most idiotic thing since the outlawing of the 3 wheeler. They're cramped. They're vastly underpowered. Their suspension sucks. A 2up atv is a far better option than a 50 if you want to ride with two folks in an area with a 50" trail restriction.
The only legitimate reason is because of the ludicrous 50" wide trail restrictions. Other than that, there is no legitimate reason to buy a 50" wide sxs over a 2 up atv.
there is another segment lots overlook. Im a paraplegic since 2010. i want to be able to play off road, on trails, and have something to hunt with. if i could hunt from a jeep, id buy one, but this seems to be a better solution to needs like mine, and many others
MARTIN WOOLDRIDGE in the north east I don’t know why people keep buying these things. I’ve ridden them and they are never as much fun as an atv in the woods mountains and mud. I get the use in the sand and open dunes.
Glen Watkins 50's are a joke. Horrible ride quality, unstable and vastly underpowered. Anyone even considering a 50" instead of a 2up atv needs to have their heads examined.
I have a XMR 1000 and a trail 1000 trust me quad is alot more unstable if you need more proof ride Hatfield McCoy trails with a 50”you’ll be surprised what they go through compared to 60” or 72” all the size of a quad with all the safety of a sxs
Don’t forget to mention the greatest part of a 50 they fit directly in the bed of a pick up
Titled "Why Are 50" Wide Side-x-Sides so Popular" and it turns into a commercial for Arctic Cat. Try keeping the subject on track, Dirt Trax.

So, how has your wildcat performed?? Likes or dislikes?? Thanks!!

75 hp
In my 1000 DPS
I'm pretty sure most would agree... Yamaha Rhino invented the segment. Polaris definitely ran with it!
Cool !
Polaris invented the segment
Correct.

+SSduckclub Check our channel for the review of the Honda. Think it was last year or the year before we did this one.
SSinc honda...better find a good chiropractor before you buy one.
I really like my Honda pioneer 500
well not every body likes going at 40 miles hour on flat trails, some of us like going 70 mph on whoops that are 2ft deep out in open dessert and that's where long and wide wheel base is needed.
jose flores i do 90 on 50 inch trails in MI on my ktm 500 exc six days lol
hay hello, now that's badass!

+MX 720 You need to go Sport Ute. Can-Am Commander, Polaris General, Yamaha Wolverine, John Deere Gator 860i.
...because anything wider will not fit down most ORV areas here in MISSOURI- SUTTONS BLUFF being one.
3006USMC just bought a 50 RZR 900. and I must say its good to see other suttons bluff riders. its my favorite place to ride!
Perhaps we can hook up sometime.....? Riden a polaris 500 x2-june 27weekend, camper spot reserved already !
we usually go every memorial day weekend. we always reserve are favorite camping spot In January as soon a it lets us. its a fun place maybe I'll see you there sometime. when but we usually go back sometime in the summer or fall. not sure when or if we'll be able to cause this year were going to Hatfield and mccoys for a week. witch should be fun it will be are first time going there. chad wick in spring fields a cool place been there a couple times.

+joshua monk mine been doing good no break downs so far. But I've only got 1100 - 1200 miles on it so far
thx
yamaha was the original pioneer of the sport side by side with the rhino. they only started putting doors on the as standard equipment because of the millions of dollars in lawsuits generated by the massive stupidity of the consumers that didn't have enough since to slow down while going around turns.
Don't forget Cushman.
The rhino was not a sport side by side
what about artic cat engine reliability?
I have over 3000 miles on my 2014 Wildcat Trail no engine problems (or clutch) and I drive it hard including completing the Hole in the Rock trail at Lake Powell last September 2016

Polaris can’t even put doors on their machines

remember the original john deere 6 wheel gator? honda odysee?
Thats like saying the gator started it all.
Polaris ranger was first
Cause a lot of trails are tight make a highlifter/xmr side by side 55-60” wide and you got yourself some sales.
Under 50" Just so handy, and mobile!!
thats why textron bought them out and fixed all the problems
just needs a better passenger hand holds
yep

The thing with Polaris sxs are they are SIMPLE AND BASIC....

Robert Burns I don’t have tipping issues with mine. My rear breaks out way before tipping. You needed to dial in the suspension better
You`re right in that the higher center of gravrity of the 50 inch rzr will be more prone to tipping than the 50 inch wildcat trail that has a lower center of gravity which enables it to corner faster as well! I just can't get past the riding lawn mower front end.
liveactiontexas how about the riding lawn mower ride quality along with mower quality handling ?
I had a 50 inch and it wS a rough ride. Traded it in after a year and a RZR XP. Much better ride.
Seems like Yamaha made SXS popular, even thought the John Deere came first.
The only legitimate reason is because of the ludicrous 50" wide trail restrictions. Other than that, there is no legitimate reason to buy a 50" wide sxs over a 2 up atv.

50 inch Utv not as good for exploring as atv

Long live the CAT ! Grrrrrrrrr...
Arctic Cat for life!
Total BS , talked for 4 minutes and said nothing.
LOL, Jeep is what started this entire segment back in the '40s. Nice try Yamaha,
Invented? No.
They have lots of problems
50" just look so gay a 60 can go anywhere a 50 can go if no regulated Trail Gates
Polaris is Junk!
Artic scrap...
