Love both versions, but I have to say that I prefer the UK version because of it’s more realistic approach. It’s cringey and awkward but that’s what makes the show so great, not to mention the gut-wrenching ending which is not what you would expect from a comedy. And Ricky Gervais’ subtle performance in the last scene is some of the best acting I have ever seen. Overall the US office is far more feel good and appeals to a wider audience, whereas The UK version is more of an acquired taste as it is so believable that it can sometimes be kinda depressing. Both fantastic shows.
The UK version too unrealistic in many sences, many aspects US office more realitis and many aspects UK more realistic. Both series different but UK office not more realistic overall.
Americans have to milk the life out of things until they’re long past their best. Corporate greed reigns over integrity there. Too cheesy to be objectively better but if you like sentimentality then it’ll be your favourite. If you prefer realism in your comedy UK wins hands down and every time.

Lol apparently if you think american office is better (which is clear even for brits who watched it and have no biased or hatred for americans) then your a dumb fat yank lmao
I think people are missing the point a bit here. The UK office is a mockumentary, the US office is a sitcom. The UK office was created to be a very believable documentary with very realistic characters and filming style like if you went into your office with a camcorder one day. Whilst the US office has more slapstick comedic entertainment value, the U.K. Office's genius is the realism. When you combine some of the outrageous scenes in the UK office with its realism and unacted, candid nature, that's when you realise why it is so hilarious. Neither series is bad, they're just very different. Gervais' two series piece also had the rather serious undertones of commentary of British society which a lot of Americans may not understand if they didn't grow up here.
Don't be fatuous, Jeffrey i think a lot of people here are so used to american comedy that spoonfeeds them the jokes they don’t understand that british humour is meant to be dry. the peep show, the thick of it, father ted, all of theses shows were possibly the greatest testament to british humour but they’d fail miserably in america because- and this sounds mean- because they couldn’t understand the humour. i personally love the US office and parks and rec and friends but all of the comedy is so obvious and you can easily tire of it. all of the americans calling this list “retarted” are simply refusing to accept that other countries have different comedy and SOMETIMES that comedy is so funny it inspires an entire 10 seasons of the same thing in another country!
I largely agree, +Lucy. And while Father Ted should have been broad enough to pull an audience in the US I suspect the religious right would say "down with that sort of thing!" ;-) US comedy can be tremendously irreverent (look at The Simpsons and South Park) but there are certain lines it's much easier to cross in main-stream-acceptable UK comedy...
This comment section: Everyone- US was better 100% British- UK had a different style, you can't compare them. Both are different and UK had amazing jokes bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla Bla
No one can beat the US when it comes to media at the moment. For decades the US has been a cultural superpower, creating more global hit TV shows and media than any other country. This is because the US has a strong economy and because they've made English an internationally spoken language. The US Office is another hit show, it contains the same recipe for success as most other hit US shows, and there's nothing wrong with that. The UK office was very successful but has also become a UK classic, it might not be entirely as relatable to a US audience, but everything from the writing to the directing is very iconic. I honestly think that to a US audience, the US version is probably better. But in terms of how influential the show has been to comedy as a whole, the UK version was a real ground breaker. That's why 'better,' is too vague, if it means which one is generally more preferred, I would guess the US office, but the UK office was more influential and unique.
TwistedBarbie I don't understand how you can deny America is the primary reason people learn to speak English today. It's the biggest economy in the world and most international media exports come from America, so they have spread English more than any other country in the past hundred or so years.
I'm afraid I strongly disagree, David Brent is much more subtle and clever humour. Michael Scott seems over the top and trying too hard to be funny, its not. (IMHO)
jim and pam was too cliché. tim and dawn was more believable and less cheesy making it better (in my opinion). also I think the happy ever after fairytale wedding thing is a bit base. each to their own though. American one is still good
summer roses You do realise that fight just would bring more points to Jim and Pam. Showing them fight makes them real. It brings them closer together.
summer roses real relationships aren't rainbows and flowers... Jim and Pam experiencing issues in their marriage and working on those issues just made them stronger. They also had more time to develop a strong relationship, and Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski had MUCH better chemistry.
@@thunder-hedge maybe he made it but he isn’t the best one to play it imagine the man who made the guitar 🎸 Is he the best guitar player ? I’m sure you got the point
I think Pam and Jim should have won because the more it was drawn out the sweeter it was when they got together and throughout seasons 4-9 you got to see their relationship grow and them overcome problems together
When I watched the US office, when Kevin dropped his chilli I almost cried because the way he desperately tried to pick up the chilli and the fact that that showed how much he cared about it 😫😫😫😫
What makes the UK version funny is the awkwardness and the reliability. Its not an outright comedy, its a mockumentary which is a completely different style of show.
@@JDG-hq8gy They're really not "perfect", as you can see it took 4 seasons for them to develop, and they both had been harboring a crush on each other for like 8 years. In the end of the seasons, Pam nearly broke up with Jim. They're not really perfect tbh.
@@angelicaceline422 he is talking about appearance jim won't be jim if he was ugly so it brings you to the point that they choose attractive people for such roles
Wolfie in the same vein, is a spelling mistake a good enough reason to assume I haven't watched the show? I thought the Jim and Pam relationship was much better developed over the 9 seasons than Tim and DAWN.
@@SamuelMills-ez4jonah you’re too dumb to understand a mockumentary not a sitcom that has to go over the top unrealistic in every scene which is a different show completely
+Jason Evan It actually makes sense for Jim and Pam to "lose". In the Uk, it spawns over 2 seasons (approximately 20episodes) so the relationship is being captured very smoothly and you have no time to be bored (since it's so short). They won't show the relationship's flaws, leave them from the focus or make boring episodes about them. Jim and Pam went 9seasons, that's about 180 episodes, some episodes are doomed to be "bad" or at least worse than the UK version in terms of raw camera time. The relationship had way more development so it was doomed to become somewhat "boring" (don't know why people would qualify the lack of drama in a marriage as "boring" anyway) or stale. Bottom line is : the more time you spend with "someone", the more flaws you discover.
+Kuonluw I know I'm a week late, and tbh I didn't even bother to read your whole comment. But the fact that you tried to correct "lose" into "loose" and failed miserably... That's just embarrassing dude
Dr Scrandy Oh yeah, good catch haha. English isn't my native language so thanks for the correction. And I didn't tried to correct it, I was straight up wrong lol.
I'd say the smartest thing the US version did was keeping Michael Scott to a minimum in the finale. He'd already gotten his happy ending and this was about the others. He only had three significant moments and one was told by Pam. All were perfectly in character, but didn't overshadow the show which actually shows that Michael has grown. I kind of feel Michael was always a little more self aware than David. He knows he's insecure while David doesn't.
pratik shukla “Life is just a series of peaks and troughs, and you don't whether you're in a trough until you're climbing out, or on a peak until you're coming down” David Brent
Uhhhhhh... Jim and Pam had 3 seasons of build up for a relationship, got married, and had a billion times the chemistry of Dawn and Tim. Also how did Micheal lose?
The only reason was to build up suspense and to keep the viewer watching to see who won rather than to make it clear who was going to win at the start and lose all the viewers at around the 3 minute mark.
The UK version only had 2 seasons, that's probably why they didn't drag anything on. Plus it was made to be a subtle fly on the wall documentary, not a drama.
Ahh Americans, Can’t understand the rough edge and on things and the sheer tenacity of an original, American office is a far better production but you are missing the point.
I'm from the UK and will gladly only watch the US version cause it way better. Doesn't matter where your from, it's just better. I mean, c'mon Michael wins by a shutout.

Omfg so many people saying the only reason Americans like the US version is because the humor is simple minded and dumb... Us Americans like the US version because it is obviously superior in every way. There is obvious humor, AND subtle humor. The U.K. version fails to make their subtle humor work. It just comes off as boring. I respect the UK's humor, but even objectively the US Office is so, so, so much better. No contest.
You can't state that one show is 'objectively' better than the other, that's a complete contradiction. Also, making a comment about 'UK's humour' is utterly trivial and has no meaning.
marx117 x The US office makes alot of sence actually and its so simply put out. It sad that you couldn't understand it really is. It's your problem you couldn't understand it not the show. Michael acts like that to include emotion into the show and to express how awkward it is when he tries to be funny and ends up making his employees uncomfortable. What im trying to say is that he is supposed to act like that so that it provole how others feel about him. Like some people get annoyed and others feel awkward and others joke around as well and laugh. When you say The Office don't you mean Office U.K.
Entity no it's the office it came out first. I do understand the boss dynamic it's the same one as Brent. Just dumbed down and simplified with slapstick and over the top behaviour. It's a low brow version of a piece of genius.
marx117 x Brent was a dope, had a wide mean streak, lacked self-consciousness, and was such a shitty manager that you kept asking "Who put that boob in charge?" When the bosses corrected this obvious error, David begged for his job in a scene that's about as much fun to watch as a parent explaining to a toddler that their kitten has been hit by a car. Everyone was relieved when he was gone. Michael was also very goofy, but people had fun with him at least some of the time. He often seemed to be taking refuge in audacity by finding great success in unconventional ways that drove the stuffed suits crazy: closing the deal with the county commissioner at Chili's, landing the rights to sell Hammermill at that convention, being the only consistently profitable branch when Dunder Mifflin was in its death throes. When corporate cast him aside, he went into business for himself, undersold his old company by personally covering his new company's losses, and brought David Wallace to his knees. He could be crusty, even cruel on occasion, but he had a heart of gold. Can you imagine David coming to Pam's art show and buying her painting? He went out on his own terms, headed off into a bright future, and was saluted by his workers, whose loyalty he had definitely earned in the end. ("Save it for lunch tomorrow. I'll tell you all about how you turned out to be a great boss. The best boss I ever had.") Hell, even Andy managed to end his managerial stint on a higher note than David did, though only just.
aperson22222 when David begs for his job that elicits a genuine emotional response from me. It's sad to see him like that. You don't get his character he is tactless but not mean. Gervias has said many times he isn't malicious just stupid . Add to that the xmas special ending it's just perfect telling finchy to fuck off. It's the greatest sitcom of all time. So respected by everyone in the business. It's a totally different level of writing and intellect. The two shows are polar opposites I hate the will ferrell style of the us one it's slapstick and cheese. Curb your enthusiasm is much better example of American comedy. So is arrested development which has slapstick but also the best running jokes ever. That show built on itself every episode to the point where it was side aching. Always sunny is also fantastic. The us office is just shite mate.

It’s cringey and awkward but that’s what makes the show so great, not to mention the gut-wrenching ending which is not what you would expect from a comedy.
100% correct
at last, someone who gets it! Thanks, +Thomas
Finally someone here gets it. Apples and Oranges people. Both have merit.

That's why 'better,' is too vague, if it means which one is generally more preferred, I would guess the US office, but the UK office was more influential and unique.
id say colonizing 1/4 of the world made english spoken internationally but hey ho
TwistedBarbie
I don't understand how you can deny America is the primary reason people learn to speak English today. It's the biggest economy in the world and most international media exports come from America, so they have spread English more than any other country in the past hundred or so years.

how did scott and jim and pam lose
Seriously! I've seen both and Jim and Pam are so much better

I'd say the smartest thing the US version did was keeping Michael Scott to a minimum in the finale. He'd already gotten his happy ending and this was about the others. There’s nothing‘heartwarming’ about the U.K. version and that’s it’s strength.
In my opinion Michael Scott was way better
It was.
Yeah I know
+Michael Scott lol
Original idea created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who also get paid every time the US version is aired.
fav76gaming probably because you're a young American child
Omfg so many people saying the only reason Americans like the US version is because the humor is simple minded and dumb... Us Americans like the US version because it is obviously superior in every way. There is obvious humor, AND subtle humor. The U.K. version fails to make their subtle humor work. It just comes off as boring. I respect the UK's humor, but even objectively the US Office is so, so, so much better. No contest.
You can't state that one show is 'objectively' better than the other, that's a complete contradiction. Also, making a comment about 'UK's humour' is utterly trivial and has no meaning.
Joe Gaby Ok Prince Harry
Fails to make 'their' subtle humour work? are you an actual cretin? You clearly don't understand a thing about the comedy.
Found the salty brit.
+guildwars69x what? I'm American..
Michael Scott is the best.
"that's what she said.."
marx117 x The US office makes alot of sence actually and its so simply put out.
The best boss I ever had.")
Hell, even Andy managed to end his managerial stint on a higher note than David did, though only just.
aperson22222 when David begs for his job that elicits a genuine emotional response from me.
I'm an Indian. British ruled us. But I can't understand what the UK version people are speaking fully. I could understand every single word in the US version. I think US marketing about their culture has got more to it too.
