Yes sadly he departed from this kind of comedy to much more serious subjects and without Steven Merchant's wit, somehow he lost the right portion of humor and seriousness. It's a shame I really miss them as a duo and I find that Gervais made a wrong decision focusing too much on Karl Pilkingtonesque Humor neglecting Everything that was great and witty from Steven Merchant
What i love about Ricky is its the kind of banter you can tell he had with his family. He was always funny and so was his family. You don't find out in your 40s. I'm really glad he had the balls to try his hand at music and comedy. So many people are afraid to try who are equally talented. Thank you Ricky you have given me years of laughs and food for thought.

People who criticize the "bland" and forgettable performance of Ricky Gervais in Extras don't understand that Ricky's objective with Extras is to do the opposite to what happened in The office. While Brent was the lead in the Office, he wanted to give the lead to everyone else except himself in Extras (everybody else is Brant, and Ricky is the only Tim). In essence he is being the extra of his own show, while the actual extras become the protagonists. Also it is kind of a parallel universe of what would have happened if he sold out his soul in the making of the Office, because that was his first show ever and probably he had the same pressure to compromise his creative freedom as a nobody in showbiz.
