Builder assist at Cubcrafters, Yakima, Washington. This is the first week of the builder assist program for my Carbon Cub FX3 build. #carboncub #cubcrafters #fx3 #cubonaut
So glad you made this! I just finished Phase 1 in my own FX-3. My build experience in Yakima was so enjoyable, it was fun to relive it through your video. I was afraid 40 hours would take quite a while in the winter, but I completed it in 10 days. And that even though there were a few avionics issues to sort out. At 17:41 in the video, I thought "hey, that panel looks just like mine!" Sure does, right down to the same tail number!
Thanks for watching! hope you don't mind your panel in the video! Mine should be identical. They were tweaking on your panel when I was there. It was lit up so it made a great picture.
So rewarding and inspiring to watch a senior, leading a magnificent group of machinists, to create a winged wonder like a Carbon Cub. I really enjoyed the ride allover the facility because process is so clean that invites to join the group. Great video. Please keep up the magnificent work you do.
That should be an awesome and unique experience having the opportunity to build your own plane. I’m exited to see the second part coming in February. Thanks for your time putting all this information together. Cubcrafters enthusiastic!!!!
That was both fascinating and reassuring. Fun to see the build details and reassuring (though not surprising) to see the professionalism of the CubCrafters staff. Thanks. Am looking forward to watching the rest of the process.
Awesome video! I start my FX-3 build in July and can't wait! How did going with a custom paint scheme work? Did you have someone outside of Cubcrafters design it?
Have fun! It was a great experience. I contacted Scheme Designers they were great to work with. I went to the three companies at OshKosh and decided on Scheme designers. Cub crafters works with them quite a bit. There is of course a charge for their work and Cubcrafters charges for the custom paint. I think it was well worth it.
It is certified as an”experimental “ aircraft. This allows the owner to do some maintenance and freedom to upgrade and change equipment without the need for supplemental type certificates. I must fabricate 51% of the parts per FAA rules

Excellent documentary! Brings back memories! Glad to see they've retained most of the same skilled factory workers!
Looks like an amazing experience. I look forward to your final visit next time!!
Congrats! Looking forward to following your journey.
Thanks Neal! I may have to pick your brain on the route you took to get it home.

Congratulations!!! I have seen your videos with your other Cub I have an FX3 as well and I’m not that far away from you we need to chat
For sure! Where is your plane based?
@@Cubonaut875 Michigan and Arizona
Rick Bosshardt the SW US dealer has my phone number also Neal Culiner has it they will give my number
Thanks for sharing. Is the factory assisted build included in the price of the aircraft or is it an extra addition?
It’s included if you buy the FX3, if you get the EX3 the kit is shipped to your house and you assemble the parts they manufactured.
Great video! I would love to do this. How long is the build expected to take doing it this way?
I placed my deposit OshKosh 2021 - so it’s going to be close to two years. I was only at the factory for two weeks however
@@Cubonaut875 Awesome. Going to be an amazing airplane!
From my understanding the FX3 had to be partially built by the consumer. If so why?

@@Cubonaut875 ok that’s what I was thinking. Sounds like a cool build.
