The final episode of season 1's "How To" series is "How To Set Up a Trout Spey/Switch rod". With the surge in popularity of light two-handed rods for trout fishing, more and more anglers are looking to purchase one of these light, fun and highly enjoyable fishing outfits, but find many pitfalls on the way to getting the perfect rig. In this episode RIO brand manager, Simon Gawesworth, explains how to choose the right sized Trout Spey rod based on fish size, compares a Trout Spey rod to a regular single handed rod, and goes through the various fly line options for Trout Spey rods that are on the market, and when to use each one.
This film is an invaluable tool for anyone looking at getting a two-handed Trout Spey or Switch rod, and really helps anglers dial in how to get the most perfectly balanced rig.
RIO's "How To" videos are a series of short films that explain all you need to know to learn a particular way to fish, or cast. Where applicable, each film talks through the gear that you need, shows how to rig the gear, how to read the water, and how to fish that particular technique. These educational films are packed with information and top tips designed to improve the knowledge and skill level of all fly fishers. Each one is bought to you by a RIO employee or a RIO brand ambassador.
If you enjoyed season 1 and want to see more, don't fret as season 2 is already shot and will be available on this outlet soon.

Great video, thanks for posting. As an individual new to the sport of Spey casting. I’m looking for the following , which is probably out there somewhere, just haven’t found it yet:: suggestions for one or two casts, river right or left, wind blowing up and downstream.

Thanks for the great video. Very informative. Quick question though, is using the Rio single hand spey line a good alternative for any other line? I have a 10’ 9” 4wt Redington dually and was wondering if I could still successfully Spey cast with that line if I went three sizes bigger with the 7wt single hand spey. Thanks!

That would probably work well yes. 3 bump. Sometimes shops have demo lines that you can try. Ask them.

How do I choose my reel? If I'm fishing a 4wt spey rod, should I go 3 sizes up on the reel?
