There have been a lot of strange, secretive, behind the scenes tea about Drag Race throughout the years. And thanks to reddit user u/myhatrules it has all been compiled into this fun iceberg! Like other iceberg videos all over RUclips, I'll be breaking down (almost) every entry on this iceberg and telling you all the weird, wild, and camp stories behind some of the most hidden moments in Drag Race lore.
In this video, we'll go over tiers 1-4, and in part 2 coming soon, we'll dive even deeper into the mystery, covering even weirder, wilder entries. I want to be clear that nothing in this video can be 1000% confirmed, and no ill intent is directed at any queen, producer, or RuPaul herself. This is just a fun little mystery I'm trying to solve.

The Kandy Ho invisible edit is actually weirdly deep. So basically the Puerto Rico queens and their drag houses had a system in place to decide who exactly would be auditioning for drag race every year, (since the PR queens knew there was atleast one queen from PR every year). Whoever got cast would get advice/help from the PR queen from the previous season (Ex April helped Kandy with S7). This also involved the PR queens sneaking in devices like phones to get advice from previous contestants. Drag race producers found out about this after the filming of season 7, but way before it’s release. Because production was upset with PR Queens, they edited out Kandy and didn’t cast a Puerto Rico girl until Season 14

It’s absolutely true. Part 2 electric boogaloo is the tale of Madam Laqueer. She allegedly applied for the show despite not having the PR queens’ approval (Kenya Michael was their chosen delegate) and it led to animosity

As someone who's experienced many panic attacks, it must've been incredibly painful for Max to see how her experience was played out. it's already embarrassing enough to have a panic attack because you know that there's not really a reason for your body and brain to act like you're in danger and you already feel like everyone's judging you, so to have a tv show twist a situation that was out of control in a way to make you look weird is humiliating.
They started asking for extra runway looks after everyone brought a kimono for "The Night of 1000 Madonnas". They wanted to be sure that didn't happen again.

Kandy Ho invisible edit is talking about how she got like 2 minutes of screen time total. She won two lip syncs and made it to episode 6 but we still didn't learn anything about her. For context, other contestants that made it to episode 6 are: Maddy Morphosis, Tamisha Iman, Aiden Zhane, Scarlet Envy, Blair St. Clair, Cynthia Lee Fontaine, Robbie Turner, Kandy Ho, Milk, Jade Jolie, Milan, Mariah, Sahara Davenport and Shannel. Obviously placements vary depending on number of episodes and contestants.
The craziest part to me was the fact Jasmine M got more time in confessionals in just 3 episodes than Kandy in 6.

In an interview with Hey Qween she said that she went into the show with a competition mentality and not a reality tv mentality. She admitted to not making good tv, not giving the producers much to work with.
The thing with the money ball looks: Raja and Manila got extra time because they didn't finish their dresses in the original allotted time. Alexis Mateo and Yara Sophia finished their gowns on time yet they were in the bottom. Yara's breakdown was related to production's rigga morris and the unfairness of it all.
Denali confirmed that Everytime We Touch by Cascada was on their season 13 iPods. We were robbed of this song being used!
Just throw their whole discography in please 🙏🙏🙏
No shade, but Cascada is always more Europop. I think any other franchise should be using their songs for lipsyncs. Especially the European ones.

@@abigailxmary I’m from The Netherlands, so that negates your point baby. I am just talking about when a European artist is gonna have a lipsync song, then it would better with an European franchise. Especially since its a German band. It would better fit with Drag Race German (which is speculated coming up).

Regarding the extra time for the money ball which you glossed over, I’m surprised that you didn’t know this! This ended up resulting in the all time saddest drag race elimination for me. There has never been so much outright crying on drag race for an elimination since Yara Sofia’s original elimination (maybe until Pangina). Whoever hasn’t seen it please go watch it right now. The Season 3 queens were put through hell with 3 design and 2 ball challenges. Alaska and William spoke about this on Race Chaser September 11th Season 3 episode 13 “Make dat Money” at 46 minutes - you should listen it’s a lot. According to Yara, she was overwhelmed because the producers gave Manila and Raja EXTRA TIME to finish their outfits the night before and there was nothing she could do to prevent her or Alexis’ elimination because they had already seen production’s favoritism of the other two queens, and Raja and Manilla’s garments were unfinished while she and Alexis’ were already finished. This also goes into why Alexis said “I follow the rules” in her “why should you win?”speech - also alluding to Raja using the mesh material for the hair design challenge earlier. They wanted Yara in the top 3 but she didn’t even want to lipsync, apparently production was yelling at her to get up and just dance because they would have edited it to look like she was top 3 ; that’s also why Alexis wanted to leave that episode because she knew she wasn’t going to make it. Then slowing down the video of the lipsync while Yara looks to the heavens and slams to the floor like that heaving and crying on the floor is milking her hurt for all it’s worth. The judges were crying and just letting it continue it was so weird, Manila and raja looked so uncomfortable, Alexis was inconsolable after and then they focused it on her as it became her big moment after. I get it’s great television but I get chills every-time I think about that moment of historic riggory.
You forget when Serena was eliminated. Everything shut down. There was a giant book reading and it was one of the few times everybody came together. It was beautiful just like Serena.
People 20 years from now will know where they were when Serena was eliminated. It created a cultural shift. One of the saddest moments in the show and human history.

This is the saddest thing i've ever heard. I always really liked Manila and Raja but the more I find out about the favoratism towards them and how poorly they treated the other queens on season 3, the less I feel comfortable appreciating their work on season 3.

I think the "letters under their hotel door" is in reference to Jiggly (and maybe some other queens) saying there was a letter left under her door saying she'd be checking out the next day, thus telling her she would be eliminated before she even lipsynced that day
Yep. She yells in that episode of Untucked 'None of you other mother*uckers got that note!', it's been a while since I watched it so I can't remember if they tried to skirt round that in the edit, but it's definitely not elaborated on. But Willam's talked about it for sure.

i’m pretty sure on season 4 a letter was left in jiggly’s room saying thank you for staying from the hotel before she had been eliminated so she knew she was next. you kind of hear about it in untucked when she says to the other girls none of you got that letter (i think this happened unless i’m completely making it up lol). not sure if that’s what the letter one is?

Maddy from season 14 said she was wasted in her lipsyncs because she kept sneaking extra drinks 😂. Maybe that’s why they relaxed the drink restrictions for season 15, it clearly wasn’t working
The person who pulled out for Jaida to be in season 12 was Tamisha Iman!
no, nicky doll was the replacement for tamisha iman, jaida essence hall replaced demi sexton, she had a death in her family so she cancelled and jaida came. demi was supposed to come back for s13 but we discovered that she exposed people's nudes/intimate pics without their consent so they didnt call her back (this is why we had a three way lipsync of elliott, tina and kahmora)

I’ve seen actually that Aquaria only spent around 5K in season 10 thanks to connections she had, and 5k is relatively low compared to these new girls spending 20k on their regular season

Honestly I feel like Roxxxy has one of the best villain edits I’ve seen from reality competition. She’s amazing at what she does, she’s super polished, a pageant queen who isn’t afraid to be goofy, and she was edited to look catty and cut throat at the same time.
I myself when I was 14 watching season 5 thought she was a demon, but as I got older I was able to appreciate it for the TV magic that it is. It’s such a shame that she gets so much hate for it (especially considering it was 10 years ago), and it makes me happy that she got an exceptional “redemption” edit in AS2.

@@glennlaroche1524 Valentina was wayy too embarrassed for it to be fake. I also don't think Bebe realized that losing your wig is a no-no on drag race, since it was common in seasons 1-3 (which were probably the only ones she'd watched 😂)
I think it's more likely she saw DeLa do whole bs with white out and opted to lose it, so she could get rid off stronger competition.
But I do also agree with a possibility that Bebe may have not known that taking wigs isn't good idea anymore, mostly because she has definitely not watched a single season since her own.
Also a possibility - she was prompted by producers that taking her wig would be a sick move and good reference to season 1 and she actually believed it.
Now the real gag I would like to headcanon - Bebe actually haven't picked a lipstick, that's why she refused to show it, because she knew she had to lose it or that producers would like Bendela to win there.
I think the letters under the door refers to the fact that the queens have to slip notes under the door of their hotel room if they need to talk to a staff member
I remember the season 7 isolation, and Katya DIES laughing when the production assistant told her "You will communicate via post it note, and you'll shove it under the door."
I also recall Ginger (I think it was her anyway!) saying something about slipping notes under the door to the room that was adjoined to hers to see if it was another queen. It ended up being Sasha Belle (And I’m 99.9% sure Sasha was the second queen in the story it’s only whether or not it was Ginger who had told it or not that I’m a bit foggy on.) so they secretly hung out a bunch in each others rooms until Sasha was eliminated.
There’s also the incident with Jiggly, though I _highly_ doubt it’s talking about that. (And it will most likely be featured on the iceberg later on!) The incident I’m referring to is when Jiggly received a bill under her door from the hotel (So, not a letter. But pretty close I suppose.) stating that she was checking out the next day or perhaps the day following that, depending on when exactly she received it. (Amongst other, unimportant/uninteresting info.) However, she got it either the night before or the morning of the day they were to do that weeks filming on the MainStage, which included the runway/lip sync/elimination. Thus, Jiggly hadn’t been eliminated yet but she knew damn well that she was the next one to go! Again, I _highly_ doubt that it’s referring to that instance (And that we’ll be hearing about it a little later on.) but I guess maybe someone could (poorly) describe it as such. LOL.

I’m pretty sure the letters under the door is about how some queens received their checkout notices from the hotel on the morning of their elimination day before a lip sync had even been filmed. Jiggly has talked about this and alluded to it during her reunion episode or maybe untucked.

so the Kandy Ho invisible edit thing is about the fact that she barely has ANY confessionals in the season (I believe she has 47 seconds worth of confessionals). also, she was barely in the episodes.

-The last-minute swap of the lip sync song between Detox and Jinkx
- Raja's "who are you to judge me" and demanding Michele be fired and then Rupaul rigs the lip sync for her to take home the JR AS7 crown.
- Shea and Monet walking off stage when Jinkx got her TIkTok win (likely not true)
- All possible pairs of double crownings were filmed for the final 4 of AS6
- (Apparently) Different endings where either Crystal, Jackie, and both were eliminated/saved at top 5 of S12. They film different endings for the pre-finale episode for every season since VH1.
- Peppermint was filmed being eliminated at final 4
- The long list of queens who were suffering from personal health issues (Laganja, Cynthia, Chi Chi,...) that were affecting their performance.

Also the "notes under the door" might be two things: the fact that the queens can ask the staff to buy them anything (specially food) by pulling notes under the door OR that the day that Jiggly went home before she even lipsynced producers pulled a note that said that she had to pack before the night or smth like that

There are other queens that changed their name before going on Drag Race. I'm pretty sure Jonbers Blonde was called JonBenet Blonde. But they wouldn't have someone with that name, hence it's name of a little girl that was brutally murdered. Also Sister Sister used to perform under the name Sister Fibrosis, however, I don't know if she changed it for Drag Race specifically.

The “letter under the hotel door” refers to a few of the Season 4 girls (Jiggly mentions it in the Untucked where she gets eliminated but it’s bleeped out) getting a “thank you for your stay” notice from the hotel right before they got eliminated.
regarding the season 3 fight, the queens were sent home after the fight for three weeks. however, it was because of ru's health. Him and Michelle discussed it on what's the tea once but that is less exciting than THE FIGHT SHUT DOWN PRODUCTION
I think I heard Max say somewhere that Ru specifically asked her to sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" but Max actually corrected her and started to sing the "Star is Born Medley" which, in the movie, Judy does sit at the bottom of the stage to sing. However, Max maybe didn't know that Judy was also keen to sitting at the end of the stage to sing "Over the Rainbow" at the end of her live concerts. Maybe Rupaul thought the correction was a slight? Maybe Max actually did make herself look a little foolish, but they edited it differently for time and context? Maybe? Can anyone fact check me on this? Great video!
Max has entirely cleared this up in an interview before. She needed to sit down (think it was her corset was too tight?) And they were all chill about it, ru asked them to sing something etc. And they continued with criticsm It was just edited shady in post-production
@@LINGWOW9 I just found the Joseph shepherd interview and max pretty clearly lays out the fact ru asked her to sing “over the rainbow” but Max corrected her and sang the star is born song- I’m just saying it might’ve come across as max trying to one up rupaul with Judy garland trivia - and that’s probably not the best idea 👽
from what ive heard - max got her negative critiques but started feeling faint bc her corset was too tight during one of the other girl’s critiques… she tried to like loosen her corset subtly but i think the camera had a wide shot - producers stopped to ask if she was okay but then edited it to seem like she was being dramatic during her own critiques… ru asked her to sing to help her feel better and then yeah… blame it on the edit fr
I miss Max. She was super talented and yeah, a little weird, but I love weird drag. She was so pretty and had such a strong sense of style..

I think the letters under the door refers to the fact that (I think it was Katya who said it) the only way to communicate with the PAs watching them at night was to skip letters under the door. Shopping lists, beauty items, etc were communicated that way.
I remember Katya saying this in an interview!
So not only was Jaida an alternate for her season originally, the queen she was allegedly replacing who was cut at the last minute was....Tamisha Iman! Also it is basically known for sure at this point that Violet was an alternate on Season 7 as well.

The letters under the door is referencing how queens in early seasons, most notably jiggly, got checkout notices slipped under their door and were eliminated the same day. She actually yells about it in untucked but they censor the word letter out nowadays.
In allstar 2 Katya said in her youtube podcast at the time that they had 2 or 3 unused runway categories. So unused categories can be a thing since season 8.
Maybe she meant for AS2?
Kandy Ho's invisible edit: the show just didn't want to feature her. From day one, the winner was going to be Violet, Fame, or Pearl. Fame didn't do great in the challenges, Pearl checked out, so it went to Violet.
That's why everybody remembers season 7 as boring or just bad. They wanted a FASHION queen, come hell or high water.
Violet, Fame, and Pearl are some of the most boring contestants in Drag Race Herstory but they sure looked pretty 💅😌✨

I sorta disagree. I do think it was being set up for someone like Ginger, based on the magnitude of the challenges that wound up being comedy or acting. But, when reaction to Ginger wound up being decidedly negative, they switched routes.
But was Pearl really a fashion queen? I don't remember her knowing how to sew and I can't remember too many things she wore didn't she get the infamous you wore a bra and panty comment ?

And Colton (I don't know how to tag multiple people in a RUclips comment on my phone, I'm 33 and about to pass away) as to the challenges, they were set up for Ginger, MKD, or even Tempest to win, and then get taken down by a young upstart in the finale.
From what Raja has said on the race chaser podcast she threw some very intense tantrums that you don't see and one was because of the money ball. I think willam has made a guess that raja and Alexis wanting to leave is what caused them to get more time

An interesting addition to the fact that Jaida Essence Hall was an alternate for season 12 is that she was replacing Tamisha from season 13! Tamisha was cast but pulled out because she was sick, and so they wound up casting her for 13 when she was healthier.

The pink slip theory comes from jiggly originally. Queens would receive a pink slip under their hotel room on elimination day. The slip would be a check out time this would mean they had been eliminated prior to even lip syncing.
PLEASE do an episode on all stars 1!!!! it feels like a fever dream now 💀
The letters under the door thing was queens would get a bill for their hotel stay from the hotel slid under their door a day or more before they were actually eliminated. Kind of alluding to production knowing who was going home days in advance, before the main challenge/bottom two/lip sync took place. The most popular case of this was when it happened to Jiggly, and I know it happened to Dita. Willam talks about it on race chasers and as far as i know i’ve only ever heard of it happening to the season 4 queens.
Now my question is, how did they do Lady Camden’s Chaps Runway with the reveal? Did she do it twice?

The Kandy Ho situation is similar to what they did in s12 to You Know Who except Kandy didn't do anything wrong. It was sort of they casted her 4 the season and then regreated it and she overstayed her welcome bc there were a Lot of worse performing queens. Basically just a queen planed to be an early out that run out of storyline but also wasn't chopped bc there wasn't a good moment to do so.

I think the notes under the door is just how queens communicate to the show helpers who guard the hotel doors. They just send a note saying “Can I have Doritos?” And they bring them Doritos. 🤷🏽♂️
I wanna thank you for your description of 'Iceberg'. I've understood what they were from context clues and such, but the way some content creators use it is in a very "iykyk" kinda way, and then half the time they use it wrong.
Letters under the hotel door refers to a small documentary episode from season 7 which shows the queens as they prepare to enter the werk room while sequestered in their hotel rooms. The video shows how the queens have to literally "communicate via post it note" (yes, that is a direct quote). So basically, if the queens needed anything from food to hygiene essentials they had to slip a post it note under the door, and the hall monitors outside would receive the note and would be able to accommodate to the queens.

Letters under hotel door refers to season 4 queens receiving letters from the hotel staff that they would need the room the next day. In other words they were pre-planned elimination jiggly talked about it on race chasers.
I think letters under the door could relate to a story that Willam shared on race chaser that Jiggly got a letter under the door from hotel staff the day before (or morning of idr?) her elimination day, so basically saying that her elimination was predetermined regardless of the outcome of the lip sync
I think the letters under their hotel door is when they kind of signed out to their room for getting eliminated so there's Jiggly, she hasn't got eliminated yet the moment she received that letter and she's the only one who received it so she knew she would get eliminated, and I don't know where or which part of the episode but I remember Jiggly crying while she holding that letter which kinda related to this theory
I think the “notes under the door” point is referencing how the queens are given sticky notes to write on to ask for toiletries, snacks, etc while they’re in the hotel. They slip them under their doors into the hallway to communicate anything they need to the crew that handles them.
The letters under the doors of the hotel rooms i think alludes to queens in season 4 (princess and someone else i think have been mentioned in this regard) and maybe some other seasons getting hotel bills/checkout information the morning of their elimination even before they were filmed being eliminated.
kinda unrelated but we should prioritize the queens explaining their outfits during the runway instead of the judges jokes. esp if we’re gonna have the shorter eps, i’d rather hear the queens talking about their outfits and cut out the judges part

In the untucked episode where jiggly got eliminated she states that no one got one under the door. I'm unsure which episode they talk about it, but it was during their season 4 recap

I’m rewatching this video and you know what is extra shitty about Max’s elimination? Not only did they make her look crazy but a few years later, I remember seeing the official Drag Race account post a tweet about the time Ru asked Max to sing a few bars of ‘Swanee.’ So bloody shady.
I remember a queen saying the fight between shangela and mimi did get physical, and thats why mimi has a different wig on when she does the lipsync that episode.
RuPaul also got sick in season 3 so along with the Shangela and Mimi fight, everyone was sent home. Raja has talked about it, during one interview she mentions it when she talks about the small chachki that RuPaul gave everyone when they returned and Raja has kept her now rotted tic tac in it.
I knew everything from the first 2 levels, and almost everything from the 3rd level (didn’t know Jinkx gave shit back to Roxxxy, or that the season 3 queens got more time for the money ball, or that Vivacious’s entrance flub was planned). I vaguely remember something about letters under the hotel doors (maybe Katya mentions it in UNHHH?) but I’m not sure about that one.
I also didn’t know the depths of the Kandy Ho edit thing. Another comment mentions it’s something about Puerto Rico queens having a system involving sneaking phones to receive help, and they found this out and thus edited Kandy out pretty much.

I don't know how true it is, but about money ball I heard that Raja and Manila had more time to finish their dresses than Alexis and Yara, which would result in the latter two doing lipsync.

Alaska also brought up when it was top 4 that it was just like season 5 where Rolaskatox and a talented weirdo (Katya/Jinxx) Alaska, Detox and Roxxxy upon watching season 5 over again. Roxxxy said in AS2 that the edit was correct in S5. So who do we believe?

Maxs edit is so sad - I am currently watching Drag Race with my boyfriend and truly, both me and my boyfriend are in love with Max. Fantastic performances, truly. Both the fashion and the characters were great, the looks and the outfits, the humour, the makeup, all of it. Honestly I am wondering whether Ru just didn't want another "brand queen" after Bianca had her one silhouette the whole season and having another branded queen, like Max and the gray hair, wasn't for Ru? As far as I’m aware, there really aren’t any rumors or conspiracies as to why exactly Kandy was barely featured in the season at all. M
I believe her edit was just so noteworthy because it was the first time something like that had happened to a queen, especially so heavily. (I honestly can’t think of any contestants since who have been in as many episodes as her but had such little air time either. Aside from the one contestant who was deliberately edited out after being disqualified from the competition, obviously. I could easily be misremembering though!) I really don’t think that it goes any deeper than that! (Though, again, I could absolutely be wrong!!)
As far as the whole “passing notes under doors” point, I’ve seen others suggest that it has something to do with how the queens communicate with production/their handlers while they’re in their rooms at the hotel.
While this could _certainly_ be it, I also think that it has _something_ to do with a story that Ginger (I think it was her anyway!) told in which she said something about slipping notes under the door to the room that was adjoined to hers to see if it was another queen.
It ended up being Sasha Belle (And I’m 99.9% sure Sasha was the second queen in the story it’s only whether or not it was Ginger who had told it or not that I’m a bit foggy on.) so they secretly hung out a bunch in each others rooms until Sasha was eliminated.
There’s also the incident with Jiggly, though I _highly_ doubt it’s talking about that. (And it will most likely be featured on the iceberg later on!) The incident I’m referring to is when Jiggly received a bill under her door from the hotel (So, not a letter. But pretty close I suppose.) stating that she was checking out the next day or perhaps the day following that, depending on when exactly she received it. (Amongst other, unimportant/uninteresting info.) However, she got it either the night before or the morning of the day they were to do that weeks filming on the MainStage, which included the runway/lip sync/elimination. Thus, Jiggly hadn’t been eliminated yet but she knew damn well that she was the next one to go! Again, I _highly_ doubt that it’s referring to that instance (And that we’ll be hearing about it a little later on.) but I guess maybe someone could (poorly) describe it as such. LOL.

i know about the queens getting letters under their doors one from alaska and willam’s podcast, race chaser. i have no idea when they talked about it, maybe when covering an earlier season? but willam said that some queens got a letter under their hotel room door that said something about checking out of their room the next day. then they were eliminated the next day of filming, so the hotel kinda told them ahead of hand on accident.
they also have been able to slip notes under their doors as communication. and during the quarantine seasons production would get them notes telling them filming was gonna start and stuff like that. so it could be referring to those as well

About the lettres under the doors thing;
Pretty sure it was Bianca Del Rio(not certain it was her, but like 80% ahah) that said that because they were not allowed to exchange when not on camera. She had figured out a way to get out of the room and showed the some of it other girls (and how to replace the tapes on the door so no one would found out.) They went out couple times, for a queen bday(can't remember who🤦🏼) they went clubbing.. Anyways! She also said that they were slipping letters under each others doors (hotel rooms) to communicate. (Sorry my english is bad, its not my 1st language)
