Just watched the show on the sci fi doctor who marathon weekend. Have to say it still holds well for its time. THe writing and acting in this episode were superb. Plus the characters and how they all relate to one and another was right on the mark. Peter Davison final scene as the Doctor was very well dramatizied and poignant. Shame the following story "The Twin Dilemma" is quite the opposite to this story.
MrTardis was right about this music, the rattle snake bits send a chill down your spine,so does this entire piece, and I FULLY AGREE!!!!!BEST STORY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4:47 - 6:06 Favorite part. With 4:47 - 4:54 being the favorite part OF my favorite part. I liked the music from Caves of Androzani, Logopolis, and the Two Doctors.
Peri: Doctor? Six: You're expecting someone else? Peri: I..I...I Six: That's 3 I's in breath, it makes you sound egotistical young lady. Peri: ...What's happened? Six: Change my dear... And it seems not a moment too soon!
I do hope you mean real instruments. The composer's who worked post Dudley Simpson on classic DW wrote and played all their scores, and created many new sounds.
I remember being disappointed to read that Roger Limb had done the music for this - being a regeneration story - 'cause I didn't really like his stuff before this. Well, that made this score that much more enjoyable because it was so good. I just wish Limb had used more percussive elements in his earlier works on DW. That said, my favourite bits are the empty Androzani theme at 0:00, the Sharez Jek theme at 0:30, the chase at 3:23 and the dark music at 4:12. The regen at 4:48 ain't bad too!
You can be forgiven for that because prior to this and his next great score, 'Revelation of the Daleks', every story he did had appalling music - and I hesitate to call it music as it just drones on in the background - 'Fiur to Doomsday', 'Arc of Infinity', 'Terminus'.... God, such hideous cacophonies that really do nothing to sell the composer.
Great stuff. Love the regeneration music at the end, although I rather prefered Dudley Simpson's era. With real musicans. I am a huge fan of the classic series, but I prefer Murray Gold's fantastic epic score for the new series. I always prefer full orchestras and musicans.
Other examples of Roger Limb's work on Doctor Who were atrocious (such as in 'Four to Doomsday' or 'Arc of Infinity') because his overuse of that high-pitched whiny sound effect was must so darn annoying. This piece is excellent though (love the 'waaargh' sound effect at 0:22, and the final regeneration part) though I think his work on 'Revelation of the Daleks' is more memorable.
I liked his work on The Keeper of Traken, as well as his later scores for The Caves of Androzani and Revelation of the Daleks, but his work on Four to Doomsday, Time-Flight, Arc of Infinity and Terminus is very same-y and discordant - not scores I particularly like.
4:47 "I might regenerate... I don't know... Feels different this time..."

The music suited the atmosphere of the story. Very dark, and the end to a great doctors era.
Another great score to an amazing story
Still absolutely fantastic stuff. They should get Roger Limb back to score a few new episodes if you ask me.
Agreed. They should have a different composer for each episode.

Still think The Caves of Androzani is the best Regeneration story with Logopolis & The Parting of the Ways joint Second
You actually enjoyed Logopolis and rank it higher than the War Games?
I mean, Logopolis is a classic, so...
wonderful, thanks for putting this up :)

Great theme, great story. Not the biggest Davison fan but he gives a great performance to go out on

@logofreetv Check out The Box Of Delights on RUclips then, it was made later in the same year as Androzani and also has really good Roger Limb music.
Agreed, although I like Murray Gold's music a lot

Little disappointed that the race to the Tardis part wasn't included.

What high pitched whiny sound effect do you mean? I'm interested, because I think you mean 4:47 - 4:54
