I think the things I love most in THIS episode are the performances that MasakoX turns in as Goku and Gohan. First, Gohan's just purely emotionless dismantling of the Cell Jr's, then Goku dropping ALL of the goofiness out of his voice for his last goodbye to his friends and Gohan, and then Gohan's sheer rage at himself for giving in to Saiyan hubris. Just amazing.
I literally constantly forget it's the same person in that moment, I'm just so blown away by the performances that in the moment I tend to not realize I'm listening to One, Amazing voice actor. Shower these ppl with all the awards!!
@@kamenanew9867 I love the scene earlier in DBZA where Goku has a flashback of meeting Popo for the first time because young Goku talks exactly like Gohan...but yeah it's impressive how he can pull off two distinct voices that are actually pretty close in terms of sound and pitch
I mean despite Goku being the main character, DBZ is mostly about the evolution of Gohan and how he grew to become the person he is, and I feel like the trio at tfs understood that. For as silly and light hearted the series is, it really hammers home the heavy and emotional aspects of the story, and I *LOVE* them for it.
On the note of the "Bye, son!" bit... during a marathon TFS did watching all these a while back, one thing they described as part of their process was a number of moments where they took a running gag, and turned it suddenly tragic. "Take the funny thing, make it sad." ...Bye, son.
That "bye son" gets me every time. Every other time it's said, it was Gohan's imagination, exaggerating Goku's character, so when Goku himself finally says it and it's completely serious...gyah, so good!
Goku (to Freeza): “I’m done fighting you. I’m bored. You’re boring me.” Gohan (to Cell): “I said I’m bored. You’re *boring* me.” god i loved that so much
I kid you not, Goku’s goodbye in this one was built up sooooooooo well for TFS They _cemented_ the foothold between writing seriously and being hilarious
Love how this show can be emotional and funny at the same time. Gohan screaming for not finishing the job and getting his father killed... Piccolo: is it a bad time to point out that Goku just stole that win?
when goku is saying " is this a vegeta's move or a freezer's move" is talking about the fact that they tried to explode the planet when they were in a tough spot.
yeah they are! its gory af! also since they didnt explode like in the censored anime version...it explains how they could regenerate and still be alive in Super...
I love Krillin consoling Gohan here. He’s usually silly and sometimes a jerk but this arc in Abridged really does bring out the “friend” we know and love. Pretty much everyone (except MAAAAAAYBE Yamcha) has made a major screw up at least once in the franchise at this point (though Krillin was dead and didn’t witness Tien’s failed Mafuba on King Piccolo) so Gohan really doesn’t have to feel too bad… yet.
12:20 "he took everything away from me" was such a good Line, it establishes realy why Cell was willing to sacrifice himselfe just to kill the others. Realy great Charakter Motivation. Also they made SSJ2 Gohan the most scary Charakter in the Show, he has this cold Rage, absolutely terrifying.
Love that when Gohan goes SS2 he basically becomes a mini Goku. Tone of voice, general attitude, and enough power to basically dismiss anything else in existence
Also when on the ship transporting Goku to Kame house, Chi-chi said to Gohan about learning about cellular biology, Gohan responding with "But Cells are boring!"
I pointed this out in another video at some point, but should TFS ever continue the abridged series into the buu saga; then they've already given SS2 and SS3 their names. Gohan is a super-duper saiyan, and Goku will become a Super-Dee Duper Saiyan.
9:48 Way to go, Goku. You did this. To your baby boy. #sarcasticapplause 10:09 A brilliant DOUBLE callback here! Goku versus Freeza, and “Cells are boring!”
14:07 I feel Krillins emotion everytime Goku takes the chance to get rid of cell they been best friends since the beginning "Gokuuuuuuu" that was me as a kid in the 90s not wanting the show to end this way 😭
Fun fact, in the manga before Cell Spit out 18, Gohan actually hit him in the head instead of the stomach, so Gohan literally hit Cell so god damn hard in the head that the concussion he got was so bad it caused him to throw up
There's actually a fan manga called Dragon Ball Rise which shows scenario where Goku's plan completely fails and Gohan is killed by Cell. If you're DB fan I encourage to check it out.
This episode had it all. Action, suspense, humor, character growth, shock, and everything else. While other episodes may have had more in one of these areas, no single episode before this had as many of these in my opinion. Boss level story telling at its finest.
This was the moment you've been waiting for your whole life. This is gonna be basically like watching Frieza finally achieve immortality lol. They really handled the attitude shift in Gohan well. Fight's not as flashy as Goku vs Cell, but it means more than that. It shows another side of Gohan we'd never gotten to see quite like this. And that re-entrance of Cell was both even more magnificent _and_ terrifying than the first time.
Here's a fun fact, the cell jrs didn't actually die they actually regenerated after the cell saga and went to hide out on some islands after the cell saga, and it wasn't until the tournament of power where it was discovered that in the official dragon super manga it was revealed that 17 had actually tamed them and uses them as help to guard the island from trespassers, which is why they attacked trunks and goten until the jrs realized they were helping 17 too, which is pretty cool
6:05 this part when gohan says this speech is actually a reference to a hunter x hunter episode where one of the characters gives the exact same speech
Honestly Marvel needs to hire Team4Star to learn how to manage comedy and seriousness. They are masters of it. They know when they can throw in a joke and when to keep the tone.
IMO: This version of Goku's sacrifice is the best out of all the forms, any official dub and manga, where he only apologized for doing things his way, and TFS redeemed the "bad parent" of Goku with that speech he gave, from the "clean up my mess" to the "bye, son". Shout out to the entire TFS crew for this!
He was Never a Bad Parent. The Whole Bad Parent Thing Is something that Abridged Series Included in it's plot. Gohan Never Once Said That Goku Was A Bad Parent. As Matter of Fact Goku was actually a Hero to Gohan.
It's growth that we see in Goku and Gohan Melon and I couldn't agree more with you! I've watched these 3 parts countless times and I'm crying even now!
Must have been the Piccolo cells. Ya know, cuz Piccolo did also indirectly, just like Cell, end up killing Goku and getting revenge for his "father" as intended.
Your reaction to Gohan first words to halfway the episode was the best 🤣 !! As a kid I missed out most of dbz and didn't see how it ended, and so with dbza showing cell blowing up Kai planet my mouth drop because I didn't know king Kai dies since his planet is by snakeway. Trunks death was actually a spoiler for me back then when I played DBZ budokai games and saw cell kill trunks.
Okay, I also love how they handled Goku's final goodbye in this one. Yes, they portrayed him as a lame deadbeat dad the entire time. It was funny. It *is* funny, but it's also perfectly in character for this portrayal of Goku (and honestly kinda perfect for the original JP version of Goku from the manga). Like he said at the end, fighting makes him happy. It's basically the only thing that has EVER made him happy. He loves fighting, and Gohan wasn't a fighter. He tried bonding with his son over fighting throughout the Android and Cell sagas here in Abridged, and he finally realized that Gohan isn't a fighter when Piccolo pointed it out to him. But, at the end of the day, Goku was really just trying to bond with Gohan the only way he knew how. I mean, think about it. Every single person that Goku calls a friend he made because of fighting. He met Bulma because of his dragon ball, and the first thing she does is try to shoot him. He met Yamcha and Puar because they were bad guys. He met Oolong because he was a bad guy. He met Tien and Chiaotzu because they were bad guys. He met Piccolo because he was a bad guy. He met Vegeta because he was a bad guy. He met Krillen because Master Roshi saw Goku's fighting potential and wanted to train him. He met the Ox King and his future wife because of his fighting spirit. Every single person he's ever bonded with he's bonded with over their love of fighting. Of course he's going to try to do the same with his son. But his line at the end telling Gohan he's proud... It melts my heart every time. It's so well done. TFS really did a good job with the serious parts.
In the OG series there is a scene which I'm sad they didn't include. Imagine this: • Gohan ssj2 is up in the air and Cell is on ground level, he stood up or something but he looks up and sees Gohan really really high up, the camera displays Cell's POV • The camera switches to show Cell's face looking up, grumbling and angry, then in a second he looks straight forward and his expression suddenly changes to surprise, like an "oh" moment •Then the camera switches to a side view of Gohan just inches in front of Cell. No sound or noise of him flying down or anything. That looks absolutely badass for Gohan.
Ngl, this death of Golu was just 💔. Glad TFS made this as emotionally as possible. And yes obviously, this is indeed how his sacrifice went in the original. And King Kai's planet was literally the only place he could bring him.
It's very traumatic for a 9 year old child to watch his own father just die like that poor kid it's always been the weakness of his Saiyan side to actually just feel superior until they it goes wrong
(Talking DBZA) We got to see Goku's mentality, he thinks in terms of combat. He's not the most nurturing parent. Neither is Chi-Chi, though in a different vein. Goku focused on Gohan's physical ability, the Chi-Chi focused on Gohan's mental ability. Piccolo aided with strategy, though mainly in combat. Socially Goku, Chi-Chi, and Piccolo were not the best role-models for preparing him for the real world. They did raise him right, he's just awkward.
My favorite reactions to this is from people who DIDN'T watch DBZ, and go from crying from Goku's speech to laughing at King Kai's planet getting kaboom'd. They do NOT see it coming, and it's the greatest bait-n-switch ever! But, yours was great, too =)

7:18 He means blowing the planet up. Goku ain't never tried to blow a planet up. 9:15 Gohan, you weren't there to see Frieza reach his 100% because your dad was literally buying you time with that.
This is the best gohan in Abridged. you can just feel his rage. he has gone FULL VEGETA and FULL SAIYAN and i'm LOVING IT. His saiyan side is all in, and it shows.
You know the funny thing about Vegeta's comment about surpassing Gohan? If "Super Duper Saiyan" is meant to be SSJ2, then that means "Super-dee Duper Saiyan" is SSJ3...which Vegeta never obtained.
There really were a lot of holes in Goku's plan to have Gohan be the one to kill Cell. Not only did he not think about the fact that Gohan doesn't like fighting, but he also didn't take into consideration the sadistic change in personality Gohan would take when becoming a Super Saiyan 2 and as a result, it blew up in his face....literallt
Honestly how can you NOT root for Perfect Cell? He's so charming and hilarious. Gohan's just got a ton of power he doesn't really want nor deserve tbh xD

Melon whole mood this reaction:😂&kill em all Gohan 😈
about the "vegeta or freezer move" it was referred to getting up in the sky and wanting to blow up the planet
5:26pm on the dot for part 2 😂
Lolololol. I had it scheduled for 5:30EST/2:30 PST. But just posted it now cause I’m impatient
@@Animelon 😂😂😂 i literally just said to myself "she must've gotten impatient" 😂😂
And finally, Edgelord Gohan takes the stage.
And yes, Gohan went John Wick mode.
Honestly how can you NOT root for Perfect Cell? He's so charming and hilarious. Gohan's just got a ton of power he doesn't really want nor deserve tbh xD
NOOOO, ALWAYS GOHAN!!!
It was just so perfect and well deserved and needed
@@Animelon Fair enough 😂😁 I think there's still an episode with future Trunks btw! Have you considered Bleach abridged? It's pretty fun and now that the new anime Is out Bleach is popular again 😉
"Ripping the wings off this butterfly" was that a H.I.M. reference? lol
i love how krillin was the voice fo reason for Gohan
