    I worked on that boat for years after this video. The boat is done. It was my project for a few years. New transom, the boat was gutted and built from the ground up. Fixed the broken stringers, replaced the rotten transom. New interior, new everything. You name it, we did it.

    Yes, it is. The LS engines have 2 small lines on the front of the cylinder heads to allow air pockets to escape. This being a closed-cooled engine, the coolant reservoir needs to have fittings to allow air/coolant to constantly be purged from the cylinder heads, eliminating hot-spots.

      A free boat that you can fix up, are the ones I like best. I think this one is an older aluminum hull, like a Starcraft. I love those boats, and they restore nicely. I've done a couple of 16' and an 18'. I imagine that big beautiful motor can push an aluminum hull quite easily.

    • @lorenmhaus

      That's because it's an aluminum engine and wouldn't last in a saltwater environment for 1 year without turning into a giant pile of corrosion

    • @lorenmhaus
      @lorenmhaus 9 лет назад +7

      If you look in the video, there are TWO heat exchangers for closed cooling. One is for engine oil/supercharger coolant, and the other mounted on the starboard side by the motor mount is for the engine block. The stainless headers do not need to be closed cooled because they are stainless.

    • @bibleortraditions
      @bibleortraditions 5 лет назад +9

      It's because the LS motors have a large cam which causes reversion. It literally sucks water back into the combustion changer at low speeds. To make it marine grade, you need H series main bearings designed for long term higher RPM use, stainless steel marine head gaskets, stainless steel valves. The closed cooling helps all the aluminum parts from electrolysis. You can make any engine marine, but special steps must be taken. I had these same type of exhaust systems on my twin 502's. After a long stroll through the harbor, the valves and heads were full of salt water.

      The boat is done it runs around 52 mph on gps. The hull of the boat cuts the water like crazy.
      However this model isn't designed for speed. I'm extremely happy with the performance, it gets great fuel economy at 35 mph , around 7 mpg. It effortlessly gets on plane with as many people in the boat as you want.
      I'll do a video on my go pro this summer. I got side tracked and bought a 1973 Glastron GT 150 and put a 1978 mercury 150 tower of power on it and have been playing with that. That is a little edgy to drive, not for the kids to use.

    Chevrolet/GM is just better than Ford and Dodge. The aftermarket support that the LS engines have is unmatched. Ford has to turbo everything because they can't build a naturally aspirated engine with any kind of power. Dodge with their hemi are having so many Cam and lifter problems as well as fuel economy problems it's a joke. Chevrolet has always been the go-to aftermarket engine as far as I know. GM is just number one.

    why not just use a -10an bulkhead fitting in the tank? i had to deal with the same shit when i rebuilt my sprint, cause i put a fuel injected 4.3 in it. with external pump like yours and aeromotive regulator. All i did was reach my arm in and pop the nut on the inside. soon im dropping and LM4 in it, possibly with a whipple setup if it wont break my boat in half. but i built the engine mounts and stringer like a beast for that reason.
    sick setup you have there. i know that engine package isnt cheap. marine exhaust if hard to find, not many options for the LS engines. kudos bud sounds mean as hell! Good job with mounting and routing all the extra goodies.

    An LS based powerplant in a boat..who wouldn't love that?
    My only concern, heat soak. That thing would drop power so quickly running at cruising speed consistently. And I didn't see any (larger) heat exchanger? May as well went all motor. But hey, not my money.
    5.3, turbo. Boom. No heat soak.

    • @DONTDAREMEDUDEILLDOITDUDE
      @DONTDAREMEDUDEILLDOITDUDE 4 года назад

      Also, being LSA that's only a 1.9l blower. So for the most part, those are low end (torque) based blowers and would quickly run out of boost considering the RPM's needed to get up and on top of it. And by the time it's all said and done I feel temps would soar and you'd have to be essentially losing power at actual cruising speed. Because again, I don't see (in my mind) a proper exchanger for the blower alone.

    I would like to do same thing although I have no boat and no engine so I would need to acquire both and I'm not interested in stern drive-- straight inboard

      Very easy installation when doing an inboard engine upgrade.

    Why no air filter? I know its cleaner over water and all but still, look what you have invested?

    So how long did that car engine last in the boat before you had trouble with it?

    • @lorenmhaus
      @lorenmhaus 8 лет назад

      +jon doe : 99% of gasoline marine engines are simply marinized automotive engines. Often with valve seats, stainless valves, larger cams for higher RPM ranges and better low-end torque, hypereutectic pistons with teflon skirts, and many other upgrades. This 6.2L LSA is no exception. The closed-cooling systems (heat exchangers) are fitted to keep corrosive saltwater out of the aluminum block, prolonging its lifespan.

      +Loren Haus there is slight modifications to a marine small block as compared to a stock small block..

      +Loren Haus I personally know of a few people that have tried to use standard small block in a marine application with extreme failure due to high RPM for extended periods of time..

    I don't know enough to say much about certain boats. I can't tell if boat owner is broke or rich.
