I absolutely loved watching this. I like your opinion and I love that you share it unabashedly. It doesn't change my opinion on my love for Johanna but I see all you're points and am so so glad to have heard them. I so appreciate you sharing and it's seriously impressive to have finished this book! With every video you put out, I feel like we're buds!
I'm so glad! It’s just my opinion and I am not out to change anyones mind, but reflect on why I can’t colour something as well as I would like to 😉 Thank you for your lovely comments, I’m pleased you are enjoying the videos because I would like to think it’s me having a chat with like-minded friends who like to colour too 😊
It's nice to see this book completed! It so happens this is one of the first books I was gifted last year when I started my coloring journey, and it's the book I'm working to complete as my first book to finish. I'm about 1/3rd of the way done, and I definitely have some pages I dislike already, but hey, that's what coloring is for. Trying stuff out, learning and growing and not everything will turn out a work of art and that's ok.
Yes! That’s a great ethos 👍 I think a book is complete when you have coloured all the pages you want to colour regardless of how many you don’t want to colour. Happy colouring!
Great book, some awesome pages, thanks for showing the completed book, explaining your media, techniques and sharing your thoughts. Been watching a few vids while I colour tonight.😃😃
What a beautiful finished book! That is something I'd like to accomplish one day. I love your rainbow color theme throughout the book. Bright colors are right up my alley. Will be saving your video for future reference. Thanks from Pennsylvania!
I must say, I admire anyone who completes a book, and you did a truly lovely job of it! I have that book, and have completed a fe🎉w pages. I have A Frog's Tale, and love all his works. I'm sure I'll have his new one day 😊 Thank you for sharing your work!
I loved your coloring and your commentary! I liked your charcoaly sky background best but all your skies were really nice. It’s so fun to see all the different color combinations people use. I personally don’t understand people who have tons of coloring books with one picture colored in each of them.🤷♀️ That gives me anxiety! 😂 I finished this book recently and made a RUclips video if you want to check it out. I was not excited to color every page but would develop passion after starting by trying different supplies or techniques. Great job, congratulations on this accomplishment and thanks for sharing!😊
I know what you mean, I won’t buy a book unless the majority of pages interest me that I really want to colour them….however there are so many brilliant artists that I do have some waiting that I’ve yet to crack open because I’d like to finish others first 😜 Before we adopted the dog I was completing a page a day on average so I get through a fair few pages, but things have slowed recently…..I hope to pick up speed again soon though because I want to get my books coloured!
Hi Jacky, i did finish a book but it was a small sized one with 74 coloring pages. I do try to complete books, i don’t know why but i like that. I start at the beginning and work to the end and when i come across a coloring page that i don’t really like i color that with easy materials like chalk, panpastel, distress inks, chalk pencils, markers and go over it with pencils. When i do like a page i wil color it with pencils only. This way i can manage it. Also a big blanc background is easily colored with chalk or distress ink and stencils. But a big sized book like this one is a lot diffrent…..well done!
That’s great Linda, congratulations! In my head I like the idea of finishing books, but then my attention is like a magpie distracted by shiny glittery new books 😁 it’s funny how colourists all have different approaches and in one camp or the other when it comes to finishing books! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
@@spare_room_studio On the other hand i have more than 50! books uncolored! So i buy more than i can color. My youtube friends let my buy all those….🤣🤣
Thanks so much! I think it’s personal choice, but my feelings are that it’s rare to like every single page and there are no “Colouring Police” to come check if we colour every page 🤣 thanks for watching!
Jackie you did such a lovely job. I have completed a matchstick mouse book and on the channel am going to complete rita bermans afrika book. I haven't gotten bored yet but have only done 13 pages so far. I continue to work in other books though, I could never JUST do one book. I love that you are honest about what you like and don't like. In my opinion, Coloring should be fun and we should only do what we enjoy. Thank you for sharing
Exactly! And we all have different likes and dislikes - fortunately there are so many brilliant artists creating colouring books to choose from 😊 it would be a boring world if we all had the same thoughts and ideas! Good luck with finishing the Reta Berman book I’m sure you will enjoy it, her work is so pretty but I don’t own any of her books (yet 😉). Thanks for watching ❤️
I really admire your finished book. Congratulations! Lots of pages are beautiful! I have not completed a coloring book yet, I like to colour in different books.
Such a beautiful complete book! I only finished one so far, it was Inky Ivy. I had a very empty feeling inside afterwards, I missed feeling needed by the book if that makes sense!! Thankyou for sharing your beautiful book and thoughts behind it ❤❤❤❤
Yes, it does make sense! We become really “invested” in our creative endeavours and out a lot of ourselves into it. I totally understand that ❤️ completing Ivy is a huge achievement, well done 😊
Hi Jackie! Congratulations on the Finish of this Book! I have done some work in this book ,but there's just too much open space to deal with! Your Finished Pictures are Absolutely Beautiful!💜💜
Thank you so much for your thoughts , I have just bought this book, not done any pages yet. The only book I’ve ever done cover to cover and have just finished the last page is ivy and the inky butterfly, loved it when I first stared it but 3/4 way through I was sick and fed up with it,had to fish it as I was doing it for my granddaughter ,probably the last ten pages were rushed and my heart just wasn’t in an longer, I bought a second copy to do for someone else I don’t know if or when I might start it as I was so glad when the last page was done, I will never again do one from page one and follow on in page order, I have all the JB books but in every book there are pages I don’t like, ( I have lost ocean book and I hate every page)
I’m not one to finish most books. I have to like the picture to colour it, and I’ll try to only buy books I know I’ll colour enough to make it worth having. I love flip throughs for this very reason, and that is how I found you - I’ve been tossing up whether or not I want Worlds of Wonder and have been watching people’s completed videos to see what I could possibly do and if I would do them. I’m thinking I have enough Johanna Basford books for now, though, but it might go on my Amazon wish list in case family want to give it to me. Your book looks wonderful, and congratulations on completing it.
Yes, flip throughs are really handy if you can’t see the book in person 👍 I have to like most of the pics too to buy it but accept I won’t always want to colour every page. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
It’s rare to find books where you actually want to colour every page 😉 Had I not set myself the challenge I wouldn’t have coloured every one of these 🤣 I won’t set myself that challenge again without thinking it through properly!
@@spare_room_studio Agreed! I am kinda in a pickle with the Annee Day book, I went in at first with loads of mixed media but if I ever want to finish it, I need to simplify things big time, at least for a part of the pages!
Beautiful pages Jackie! I prefer pages without backgrounds as I like both the simplicity look and seeing white space on the page, I feel it makes the illustration pop better.
Hi hun beautiful colouring in.. I have almost finished a kerby rosanes worlds within worlds colouring book I followed a friend on RUclips I have only 4 pages to complete that was a few years ago.. ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxx
Hi Jackie, Completing a book cover to cover is quite an accomplishment 👏 Its nice to see the different styles, its beautiful. While watching and listening made me think of a product I'm pretty certain you would enjoy. Do have or have you seen the Kuretake REAL brush water based markers? They aren't a marker, and its not just water based ink, they are filled with watercolor compounds, and can be activated with water once applied. I have yet to see any colorist use them, or speak of them. They are called ZIG CLEAN COLOR. Now they come with a very fine brush that takes a little minute to get accustomed to. They have sets of 60, 80, & 120 colors. These are one of my personal favorite 'toys' I believe Amazon still has them. I do think based on what mediums you seem most fond of you would sincerely love them😊
The Kuretake Zig Clean Colors are great pens, really old now, I got mine in the 1990s. Other manufacturers have replicated these type of pens (for a keener price) which I think is the reason they're not mentioned much these days.
I have a feeling I have some of those or have had some in the past that I picked up on holiday in the US. Some of the more unusual products can be very expensive here in Australia compared to US and sometimes UK prices - but I will look into it. Thanks for the tip and watching and commenting 😊
It sure does, the problem with having so many books it takes longer to get back to one and actually finish it 🙃 I have a couple that wouldn’t be that hard to finish if I could just concentrate long enough 🤣
Coloursoft are such a weird pencil.. I think the best way for me to describe them is "hard pastel" which seems like a complete contradiction and that is really what it's like to color with them, a contradiction, and thus why they are so frustrating. They are hard so you want to push on them.. but if you do they shatter.. soft so they go down a bit chunky and want to be blended out.. but don't layer well at all. I had a small handful for a couple of years, and would pull them out every once in a while to try to work with them on a printed design to try to figure them out.. then get frustrated and put them back in a drawer. I finally determined it's best to be very simple with them, single or two color layers at most. They do respond well to a blending pencil so I treat them as one of the ways I do my Prisma.. lay down heavy color in the darkest areas with a little feathering on the edge and blend them out over white paper for dimension. I tend to reserve them for simple coloring, like mandalas, where the shapes are very distinct and just need some color. The colors are lovely, lots of soft violets, peaches, warm blues, cream yellows.. your swan is so pretty, very art nouveau.
Yes, they are a very strange pencil which is a shame, as you said - they have a lovely colour palette. I find them to work okay over alcohol markers and a watercolour base in my Aussie Amazon books so that is the only time I really use them now (and they weren’t cheap either 🙄).
Congratulations on completing your book. Beautiful pages. I completed one of Kameliya Angelkova’s mandala books. I haven’t completed a non-mandala book yet. Thanks for sharing.
