    The comments are full of people having a pop at the Germans, but considering they’ve not been a country all that long and been to Paris 3 times, shook the world twice fighting on two fronts, been split in two for a few decades after being turned to rubble before becoming a leading economic power in the world at the heart of the biggest economic bloc in the world. I think they’re worthy of respect as people and a country given their achievements (I’m not talking about the politics and the genocide, lord knows we’ve done our fair share). They’ve learnt from the mistakes of the past and have put it behind them, I know I’d much rather have Germany as an ally than a foe that’s for sure, at least you know they’ll always turn up on time for war 😜

    • @Betterhose
      @Betterhose 3 года назад +12

      Ironically, the British and the Germans were always on friendly terms until 1914.
      In WW1, most British and German soldiers lacked an understanding of why they were suddenly enemies.
      Their monarchs were related to each other, both were ancestors of the Saxons and they both weren't really fond of France.
      Britain was happy to have a unified Germany as a counterweight to French dominance on continental Europe.
      One century with its two World Wars ruined the good relation Britain and Germany had for 500 years prior.

      In the army cadets we always bashed other cadet branches (verbally. 70% behind their backs and 30% to their faces.) We were even encouraged to by the adult instructors but also to "respect colours" or in other words make sure the bashing is fundamentally good natured and not taken too far. Nice to see such good cooperation. I wish UK and EU could once again get a bit closer to each other.
    Correction in the video: the German Commander and his troops are of course from the 1st Panzer Division and not, as written, from the 1st Panther Division - even though is sounds similar. 😉

    • @dernwine
      @dernwine 6 лет назад +7

      Jonathan Sell sorry no but no. There are 3 Divisions in the Bundeswehr, 1ste Panzerdivsion, 10te Panzerdivision and Division Schnelle Kraefte. Or in English "1st Armoured Division", "10th Armoured Division" and "Division Fast Forces." There is no "1st Panther Division" in the German army. There isn't even a Brigade that has the moniker "Panther" in the German Army, not that it matters: Herr Laubenthal is wearing the insignia of a Generalmajor, a man of that rank does not Command a Brigade, and in British Army nomenculture the term "GOC" refers to a commander of a Division.
      This all stands to reason, given that the blokes are from the Jagtbattalion which is subordinate to the 41ste Panzergrenadier Brigade (also *not* called "Panther" although sometimes referred to as "Vorpommern"), which in turn is part of the 1st *Panzer* Division.
