Throw some old bolts, nuts, etc. into it to raise the level that little bit. Bonus coating to some old bolts.

I am wondering why you don't tilt the container slightly to get the part sticking out into the solution?

Because it would have exposed another part then. There is a better way to do this than what I have done that people have told me afterwards. That is putting some other things in the tote that take up space and then putting some heavy plastic over that, set your part on it and then fill it up. The space displaced by the other things you put in it to take up space will require less volume of metal prep.

can you use evaporust to clean instead then go to oil step? mastercoat production is behind and unable to order at this time

No because you need the acid and zinc phosphate. The zinc phosphate layer deposited is holds the oil. Evaporust itself doesn’t leave a protective coating I don’t believe.
Call them, ask for Pat, tell him I said he needs to get you some metal prep.

@@TheScientistHayFarmer Thanks for the reply. If you go to their website it basically screams don't call us we don't have anything to sell! But hopefully in April I can sneak an order in. I'm restoring a 69 mach 1 so I appreciate your video, I never liked the idea of just painting the bolts.

@tysonj3910 I’ve got a 69 Mach 1 428 SCJ I’m in the process of restoring. Kind of. I have two cars before it to finish lol.
Just call Pat. Disregard what the website says. I’m good friends with him. He’s expecting your call.

Thanks for the video! Unfortunately these zinc phosphate solutions are not available here and all these DIY zinc phosphate home brews don't work. I tried it with zinc and phosphoric acid. You end up with a black surface that is not abrasion proof. With a zinc phosphate coating you should end up with a light grey colour like in your video anyway. So this alone shows that it doesn't work. All those hanky panky steps like throwing steel wool in the solution is absolutely BS. It's almost a scam by all those showing it. So don't waste money on DIY zinc phosphate ingredients.
I'm now looking for a real zinc phosphate coat liquid or someone who can do it...
So I'm sure that in those solutions is something that is not allowed in Germany to be handled by private slave citizens... What a fucking joke, really.
