Picasso is nothing as an artist. He's an anti-artist, a cult idol who needs to be torn down. People don't like him for his "art" anymore, but because his reputation has so much momentum built up over the years that it's taken for granted that praising him is the "smart" thing to do. Like the emperor's new clothes. People only praise him because other people are doing it. The moment the unearned adulation stops, he'll be exposed as the fraud and yes, abuser that he was. Plus, Spain has plenty of REAL artists. Velazquez, Goya, Murillo, even El Greco (from Crete) sorta counts.
I partly disagree. His cubism is the best and no one has done it better since and it's unfortunate these women wanted relationships with a bad boy, and he took advantage, but the art is good, and even though the ignorant types do claim to see emperor's clothes, not all need to do that. I will say cubism is now very dated, and a lot of people are over it now.
I'm a guy (old) and I'm not that keen on Picasso. He's done some good and important art but way overproduced a lot of repetitious crap and junk. He's an enormous egotist and I think that you're probably right that he has mistreated, used and abused many women and those are only the ones that we know about. I think that he got Cubism from African art.
I think Georges Braque invented Cubism. But the guy never get a break. Picasso did fundamental contributions to that movement but did not invented it. It's interesting to me that even though Picasso started as an Avant-garde artist, he dropped out of the conversation rater quickly to do his own thing, the project of his life: the aggrandizement of one Pablo Picasso. The man was hugely successful in that to the point he is now the mascot of all Art. So Picasso of all people, ended representing one of the fundamental dimensions of humankind. This is such a failure. It is disappointing but very on brand, and very telling, for a species that keeps on racing recklessly to oblivion.
You're right about Georges Braque. I think he's a much better and more original artist than Picasso. I think his work is more refined and sophisticated than Picasso's and he wasn't such a jerk either.

I agree that things like this are very relevant and should be more widely known, when we are discussing a person of the not too distant past whose name is known to every human being, and that people not knowing any differently would assume to take his words and opinions to heart... when just hearing his way of thinking about women, and treating them, is utterly disgusting and reveals a monster. I know the following is an idiosyncratic take on the matter... but I think it is important to recognize the difference between artists (and men, and people in general) who are are true monsters, such as Picasso here, and for example Vladimir Nabokov, who clearly was attracted to young girls, but only let that out in his art, and in his personal life was no monster whatsoever, despite what many people would be quick to say about anyone with that attraction.
I agree with this video. However, considering that everyone (worldwide) knew Picasso as an egotistical misogynist toward women... maybe it's women who empowered his behavior by accepting him how he was. If women rejected Picasso for his narcissistic behaviors and how he treated women... then perhaps there would have never been a Picasso. A lot of women want the challenge of having a "bad boy" until they finally get one.
Hate him from the bottom of my heart. Studying 'Les Demoiselles d'Avignon' was a traumatic experience. Every time I see this painting, I fantasise about burning it.
All that i can say is please appreciate more painters like van gogh as he was also a good person reagardless of what he had been through as he was also a borderline philosopher someone you can look up to.

You and people will always judge individuals who had seen and broken. Artists are sensitive people. It does not mean cry and cry .
