Cannibal holocaust was always the film for me in terms of the genre. I felt like "nothing can top this." Which is absolutely true, but beginning in 2021 I started to check out the rest of the Italian cannibal films. Cannibal apocalypse. I liked the shoot out at the store, everything else...enough said and ya, totally not the type of film I was expecting it to be. I watched Man from deep river this year actually. Earlier in the month. The film very much reminds me of Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story. Which is not really a horror film at all, but a pretty depressing movie by the end of it. Or as you said "more like a drama" then a horror movie. Cannibals are barely even in the movie. Like literally, the cannibals get like maybe 5 minutes of screen time. Talking about Man from deep river and Amazonia. Anyway, Cannibal holocaust is still my favorite of the genre and the rest of the genre that I like and appreciate are Jungle holocaust, Mountain of the cannibal god, and Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals, which got me into the Emanuelle franchise. Can’t argue with Cannibal Holocaust being your top movie. I’ve had Amazonia in the collection for years but have never watched it, I’ll have to check it out at some point. Glad you like this kind of video 🙂
Cool list! My top faves are (in order): Cannibal Holocaust Deep River Savages Jungle Holocaust Cannibal Ferox Emmanuelle And The Last Cannibals I'm too lazy to list the rest of them in any kinda order, lol. I've never seen Cannibal Terror because of all the bad reviews, lol. I always find that Mountain of the Cannibal God a little stupid....the scene with the silly bestiality, the cannibal having sex with a pig.......like wtf!?! lol. This wrecks the movie for me sadly. And yeah, the animal cruelty in a lot of these movies is just nuts and horrible. I enjoy a good jungle adventure movie though, with or without cannibals and gore. Temple of Doom is my fave Indiana Jones film and I love those old fashioned Hollywood jungle adventure flicks.......It's just something about the whole lush green and dangerous jungle environment I guess.
Thanks for sharing your list, Paige. I could do without those scenes in Mountain of the Cannibal God as well 😅 the movie would be much better without them. Also agree with you that there’s definitely some allure to a jungle setting - it looks both beautiful and terrifying at the same time!
Great topic! Love a good tasty cannibal film, I dunno why because it’s a pretty zany and repugnant sub-genre…. Hang on…. Oh yeah, that’ll be it then. 🙄 So I’m rating mine before I watch your vid because I wanted a clean palate before I choose, so here’s mine: Cannibal Holocaust - Genuinely shocking and well made movie. Probably the ‘best’ film on this list but I don’t find it ‘entertaining’ as such. Cannibal Apocalypse - Fun trash. Had nothing good to say about this the first couple of times I saw it back in the day but this has definitely grown on me over the years and now I really enjoy it. Years ago in the 90s I sold an original cinema poster for this and regretted it, so I rectified that mistake a few years ago. Prisoner of the Cannibal God - Good jungle adventure film. Enjoyable action and well paced. Stacy Keach is one of my all time favourite actors! Cannibal Ferox - Insane trash. Entertaining for many wrong reasons but I enjoy it more with each watch these days and the story of the making of sounds almost as bonkers as the film itself. Eaten Alive - Hands down my personal favourite. Great action throughout, exciting plot. Mental set pieces.
Just finished your video and it brought to mine three very important questions: 1) How did Stacy Keach’s stunt wig stay on his head throughout that film, particularly during waterfall sequence in Cannibal God? 2) Why do all the cannibals always have such gnarly, bad teeth? They don’t strike me as particularly stupid people, why haven’t they invented a rudimentary, stone-age tooth brush? 3) Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals I haven’t seen since the mid 90s… Is there a scene in that where Emanuelle gets painted up by Cannibals? If so isn’t it exactly the same paint design as the one from Zombie Creeping Flesh? Or Zombie Holocaust? I seem to recall this.. Cut and Run deserves a mention, that’s a cracking film.
Great analysis of each film, Cliff. Completely agree with you on Cannibal Holocaust - it’s an incredibly well made film, but doesn’t have the entertainment factor. I’ll have to try Cannibal Apocalypse again. Eaten Alive almost made my top spot, always thought that one had a genuinely good story. Thanks for sharing your views on these.
Great views, but our opinions differ. I find almost no value in Lenzis work, but I love Cannibal holocaust. Guess Im searching for something dark in these movies, while your mind is more open.
@@willkra Fair enough. I like Cannibal Holocaust, it’s a very decent film but I find it pretty heavy going. I like the batsh!t charms of things like Ferox. Is that all of Lenzi’s work, or just his cannibal stuff you don’t like?
Wow what a list I would like to recommend two non Italian cannibal movies 1994 Eat about a young woman who deals with stress by eating her own flesh. 1982 La More Vicente or Living Dead girl a French movie it's on Funk the other is on Pluto.
I agree Ferox and Eaten Alive have the best stories for me, I love the drug smuggling and Cult Leader angles. Eaten Alive gets dropped a little as it’s like Italian Cannibal Cinemas greatest hits both in Cannibal kills from other films and the nauseating animal snuff. Massacre in Dinosaur Valley is a total hoot, very much more like Romancing the Stone Italian style. 😜 Emmanuelle and the last cannibals is fun but yeah sex scenes amongst the gut munching is an odd juxtaposition but I will say more tasteful than a lot of the others as generally it’s always violent and taken by force.
@@horrorhands666 It stands out as the top for essentially innovating the genre by employing the lost-footage aspect. As well as the psychological trick of using real animals at the beginning to setup a "snuff film" aspect when unaliving the human characters. It was so effective that he got arrested. It's practically the most famous Video Nasty.
I don't mind the cannibal genre at all, there are quite a few decent films, I struggle with the very bizarre nazi genre where almost all of the films are bloody terrible. For me Cannibal Terror is out on its own at the bottom of those you mention, awful film. Also not a fan of Apocalypse but I have spoken to plenty of people who really like that movie. As for the best, I suppose it depends on if you are rating them by how good the film is or how enjoyable it is. Holocaust is by far the best made and most efective movie so I'd have to put that on top but for a casual watch I'd go for Mountain or Ferox more regularly as the lighter moments help counteract the animal stuff.
Yeah, the nazi/camp movies were strange and not my thing. Totally get what you mean - Cannibal Holocaust is definitely the most accomplished but doesn't have the entertainment factor that other movies have. Thanks for watching.

It’s not bad and I’m not usually a huge fan of Eli Roth’s stuff. All the cannibals have these Beatles cut hairstyles 😄
Cannibal terror as the look of a jess Franco film. Still I find I can watch it. Vipco version of cannibal ferox was cut really bad. I bet you were surprised when you saw the uncut version, how much was cut on the vipco release. I would put cannibal apocalypse much higher, I find it to be very entertaining and more of action film. I think the extreme animal cruelty will put a lot of people of these films. I would recommend zombie holocaust as it his more of a cannibal film, but a very good one.
Yes, I can see Jess Franco elements in Cannibal Terror. I never actually watched the Vipco release of Ferox, I sourced an uncut version as the Vipco release had 10 minutes cut, if I remember correctly. Zombie Holocaust is awesome, great suggestion!

Deep River Savages
Jungle Holocaust
Cannibal Ferox
Emmanuelle And The Last Cannibals
I'm too lazy to list the rest of them in any kinda order, lol.
So I’m rating mine before I watch your vid because I wanted a clean palate before I choose, so here’s mine:
Cannibal Holocaust - Genuinely shocking and well made movie.
Just finished your video and it brought to mine three very important questions:
1) How did Stacy Keach’s stunt wig stay on his head throughout that film, particularly during waterfall sequence in Cannibal God?
Cant see it . worthlesss
Wow what a list I would like to recommend two non Italian cannibal movies 1994 Eat about a young woman who deals with stress by eating her own flesh. 1982 La More Vicente or Living Dead girl a French movie it's on Funk the other is on Pluto.
Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve seen Living Dead Girl but not Eat so will look it up 👍
(6) Icky-poo-dahs ... I'll pass on this genre. And I'm making a chicken & vegetable stew this afternoon. This ain't gonna help AT ALL. 😐
Lol, these definitely aren’t for everyone. Try and enjoy your stew! 😋
Thanks, Film Wolf! Glad you like those two for their stories as well. Sounds like we share a lot of the same opinions on these movies.
I definitely would have made Ferrox #2 and Holocaust #1. That's just me. :)
Yeah, I can totally see why you'd have Holocaust at #1.
@@falcon048 Well said - can’t argue with any of that.
I didn't see on this list PAPAYA: LOVE GODDESS OF THE CANNIBALS (Joe D'Amato 1978)
That’s one I definitely need to check out.
Any movie starring John Saxon is always worth watching no matter how trashy 😂
Agreed! :)
Great childhood memories for me😂😂😂. Could do without the animal cruelty though.
Same for me!
Yeah it’s not good is it.
@@horrorhands666Btw nice to see the views are getting up.
@@Robje300 thank you!
No Deep Throat? ;)
Don’t remember many cannibals in that one! lol
I didn't like Cannibal Apocalypse just because it doesn't really fit the genre. It's almost entirely set in the city.
Yes, it’s very different from the others. Thanks for watching.
A part of the horror genre im not a big fan of mate good video mate 👍🏻
That’s fair enough, mate. I know these movies aren’t for everyone.
@@horrorhands666 seen most of them mid 80 s at my mates house he had loads of dodgy VHS tapes I was never taken with them then , I haven't seen eli Roth green inferno I do own it
@@stuartgeorge2324 That’s how I saw lots of these originally Stuart, on dodgy bootlegs. My best mate had Holocaust on the cut Go Video pre cert for a short time, think he sold it on sharpish though. Likewise had Eaten Alive on Vampix, which was also cut to ribbons.
By the 1990s I was starting to pick these up fully uncut from abroad. Dutch releases.
Green Inferno was okay. It’s not bad and I’m not usually a huge fan of Eli Roth’s stuff. All the cannibals have these Beatles cut hairstyles 😄
😳 that sea turtle never left my mind. Really gross too see. Wow times have changed .
Oh GODS it’s shell has come back to haunt me now I mention this 🤢
Yeah, it’s a horrible scene ☹️
Great genre. I don't get the hang ups over the animal killings. the animals are long dead and aren't coming back.
Cool that you’re a fan of the genre too!
@@horrorhands666 I wish we still got films like this! Modern horror doesn't do it for me at all. Too safe for generation z 😂
