    Matt, watch the video back at look at the bulge that appears on his back right flank, near the tail, as the training goes on. It doesn’t happen on his left side. You might already be aware of this but incase you aren’t, I wanted to let you know what I noticed. It shows up the most in the last half of the video.

      I noticed it but thought it was a visual result of his colouing .... but with a second look I think you are correct that it looks like a bulge.

    • @lb497
      @lb497 2 года назад +4

      I think there is little less articulation from his back right. I'm thinking the bulge you are seeing could possibly be one of his injection site (Matt would know), which would make sense why he doesn't tuck as much. We are probably going to see some transitions in his movement as he heals.

    I’m really schocked by the hoofs, those heels… that’s not what a hoof should look like and that’s where hoof problems like cracks come from. It should not be pushed together like that, the heel should be much wider. Now there is a very narrow deep line that bacteria will form in and cause damage! Matt look into the hoofnerdacademy, they will teach you everything you need to know about hoofs!!!

    Matt, it's been a while since i've watched. It sounds like you are getting some good vet advice for your stallion. Please let me add one immediate reaction to Emporeo. He would do so much better if you could allow him to lose at least 100 lbs. He looks like one of those horses that can 'live on air' and of course I'm sure that his favourite time of day is whenever his food arrives! If you can find a good dry clean supply of really fresh hay I would gradually reduce the concentrates he is getting and very gradually let his weight come down. Stallions were meant to be breeding, and fighting, and racing around a herd and these Spanish horses just seem to make the most of every bite they eat.
    I love to see how well you have done to get his hind end under him so that his head has come up naturally. I see a very real improvement in his carriage.The only change I would suggest for you is to keep your head up and those heels down. My French teacher would leave us riding without stirrups for so long we would think that we were going to die on horse-back (or fall off in a corner and not be missed 'til the end of the lesson). Eventually, however, we could post naturally or stand at the trot without stirrups. We could sit any trot a horse offered to us and still have a secure seat.
    I'm not suggesting that this is a good idea but one of our senior riders was able to roll a cigarette, light and smoke it with one hand while she led the class without stirrups on her very large and powerful French-bred horse! We straggled behind her on our part-bred Arabs and Barb school ponies. For years I had few lessons that didn't end with me brushing the tanbark out of my hair! My all-time record was having to remount eight times in one lesson after being given a very difficult mare to retrain who had lost her trust in human beings when she was separated from her foal.

      Totally agree. He is very short in his stride. Hocks are not working enough and not using his shoulder. The result is quite a staccato action. The double bridle isn’t helping.

      I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Emporio need to loose some weight. I know that andalusians have a chunkier conformation, but they aren't supposed to be overweight. It wouldn't surprise me if his weight is contributing to his injuries.

    I imported 2 horses from Europe, my latest was ridden at the Westphalian Auction. He was not quite 5 and ridden with pole at the highest point and very forward. He barely over tracted and the movements came from tension not suppleness and relaxation. When I got him home I brought him right back to the basics and worked on periods of long and low but still engaged. He now over tracts at the walk by 10 inches and is lovely and supple and now I can ride him more up for longer periods of time. Long and low is in a first level test so should never be glossed over for more difficult exercises in my opinion. My guy also found this very difficult as his back is longer. Like your boy collection is very easy and lengthening difficult. Perhaps everything happens for a reason. You will not go wrong with help from Alize Froment…..she is amazing. All the best with your stunning boy and thank you for allowing us on your journey, you are a very gifted pair and a treat for us to watch.

    I am happy to see Emporio doing better. I love your content, I’m always blown away by how knowledgable you are, both you and Jesse really invest yourselves into your horses. A lot of people just do the riding, but you both educate yourselves on how to ride to benefit your horse. I had horses for 20 years, I had to stop after I damaged my spine. I was more into showjumping and pleasure rides. I was a kid and guided by my trainers. I would like to think that if I had have been able to have horses in my adult life, I would have developed the same approach. I hope your follow up appointment brings great news and wish Emporio a wonderful happy healed future with you. 💜

    I used to ride a stallion (Arabian). He was very easy to handle, like your boy. He was a babysitter to my then two year old daughter, as well as babysitter to foals. Very good of you too show handling him is no big deal.

    my horse is in full rehab at the moment too, with specialist shoes ect - people who haven't done this process before might not realise the mental and financial burden the owner has. As much as the horse needs rest and certain exercise to rebuild themselves, they are still a horse, that was used to years of living one way to suddenly this very restrained lifestyle and they do have all this energy that builds up. As the owner you have to constantly be trying to balance their mental and physical state, because no one knows your horse better than you, and you can tell when they are starting to become drained from the rehab process and they need a bit of their normality back. sending love and prayers for Emporio's full recovery 💕💕

    Thank you for the disclaimer. So important to show people, also that maybe are beginners/not horse people, that it's not normal. That's with the animal in mind.

    We have a colleague who was dealing with this same type of issues and they decided to geld their stallion as a last resort. The horse is like a completely different horse and much happier. I’m not sure if your vet has recommended it at all but might be worth having a conversation

    Thank you Matt..Emporio has such a sweet temperament, that I find myself not passively watching but really engaging in the work with him, urging him on. You are so articulate and a pleasure to listen to Matt.

    There is a definite bulge in the muscle. Our horse had this aswell and it took a good couple of years for it to smooth out. Our vet thought it was a tear in the muscle from an old injury. It has disappeared over time.
