Update*** the new owners of this horse have contacted me UNAWARE of these problems and can no longer get in contact with this woman to stop the purchase. I am disgusted at this behaviour but fortunate we could help this innocent girl. I will keep you guys updated. What a great community we have together 🙌🏻💪🏻 thank you everyone 😘
Oh my goodness! I can't believe she failed to share the information to potential new buyers. Even after on video she clearly stated that she would be honest! I really don't know how some people sleep at night.. Hopefully the new owners can do something about the situation!
This is unfortunate. He was stunning. Vet checks are needed and many people do not have them done. I purchased my first Andalusian a few months ago and am glad I had one done. Best of luck to you.
Well I live in Spain and I'm involved in the Spanish horse business. Sadly, she's still up and running and doing JUST fine. Recently sold a horse for 70k. Her reputation may be damaged on RUclips, but spaniards don't really seem to care much
I imagine the Broker seriously underestimated you, your knowledge, maturity and integrity. I also imagine she'll regret that decision for a very long time. Kudos to you for being so diligent as well as thoughtful and kind.
"You're selling a soul, a living being"- That part really touched my heart. There are so many people in this world who treat animals like fabricated products :(
And what an awful seller. I’ve only know people who buy horses AFTER the vet check. And the comment “maybe it’s expensive for you” how dare you. “I can sell you the horse if it goes fast”.
My boyfriends relatives in Spain tell me this is pretty common, that people will try to sell you lame horses saying it is healthy and trying to hide it. I am not surprised by this women’s attitude, she is pissed that you didn’t buy the horse and standing up to her.
I really liked this vet as well. I was a tech for years and have known several great ones and a few arrogant asses along the way. I liked how professional he was
your face when he had to tell her which leg was the left hind one... lmao. I'm hoping that was just a language barrier moment and not a "what is a horse" moment
The infamous Patricia Richter. Soon as I saw her I thought, "Oh no". One of the few great things about social media. Exposing people like this to a wide audience.
Sadly, she's doing great atm. Just recently sold a horse for 70k. It seems people either don't care or don't know about her bad rep. A thing I heard tho is that she is being searched for by Interpol lmao So let's see how that goes
I didn't really trust that lady, especially after she showed you that poor palomino. Anyone else not trust her in the first video? I wonder if she already knew.
I’m glad that you’re choosing not to hide anything. I think that’s why you’re one of my favourite RUclipsrs, because you seem really honest and genuine, ❤️
Now THIS is the reason I follow you. I respect your horsemanship and your passion for the good of the horse. You’re a true horse person. I am happy to see you using this platform to educate so many. Well done Matt.
A 3year old shouldn't look like a 6 year old. He's not unusually magnificent, he's already over worked-too much and too young, to give the impression of more talent//maturity than he has. It's a typical tactic of horse traders/dealers. It's awful to see fabulous (Or any) horses ruined by peoples greed and ignorance. Heartbreaking. Love your vids, you seem to have an interesting life, thanks for sharing with us!!!
Are they possibly supplementing the horses to cause them to mature faster and in turn causing growth issues with bones and joints? Like some people do with large breed dogs?
@@Acadian.FrenchFry Yes, exactly. Even just feeding hay too high in protein (like pure alfalfa rather than grass hay) can cause OCD or other bone/growth issues in larger breeds.
@@sharon_jean6748 I think it depends on the breed. Weren't quarter horses bred from thoroughbreds originally? I believe thoroughbreds generally mature faster than most other breeds. I didn't catch what breed this horse is but I don't think it's a thoroughbred nor a quarter horse, so I doubt his unusual size for his age is breed related.
A huge red flag for me was that she took you to see that poor horse that was living in sub-standard conditions with evidence of harsh treatment and handling (like use of spiked bridle/noseband?). Like, no, lady, this is not okay.
I live in Spain and here its really common for horses to be kept in these conditions so she probably didnt know any better. Im not defending her because she could have used common sense but she also might have shown that horse to Matt so that the horse would have a chance at having a better life.
@@anaisolivia8589 This woman is german, she talks about how the horses fur shines more in spain than in germany or the netherlands, so she should be aware. still hope youre right about her wanting to show that horse to him to get it into better conditions
You could see he was not moving right. She’s obviously in business to make the money. Not sure she over cares about any of the horses tbh. As long as she sells them on for profit.
We live in 2019! A Vet-Check is pretty normal, if u want to buy a horse. This Woman is very unprofessional.. At the beginning I already had a strange feeling ... thanks for sharing!
Vik - I’m totally dumbfounded the seller was not more forthcoming considering Matt has a career known to many and has a RUclips channel that in itself would insure a good level of honesty. Gee!
The last time I was looking for a horse I looked at a couple and one they didn't show anything like tacking up catching etc so that was a big no but then I looked at my current horse and the owner actually said take her to our property and have a trial to see if she is actually good for you
Yeah I thought it was routine. When I worked at an equine vet at least one appointment every day was a pre-purchase exam with the current and prospective owners present
I'll be honest. I've *never* bought a horse and done a ppe on them yet. Then again, I'm not buying anything high end outlay either. I know the risks I'm taking. I'm careful with what I'm looking at and am prepared to walk away over a single hair if I don't feel comfortable about the way it lays. Or moves/doesn't in the wind. I've bought off photos and pedigree alone. And told a seller to load back up and take them back just as fast when the animals he unloaded were very definitely NOT *as advertised*. 15.1 is a far cry from 16 hands, no matter how anyone measures! And broodmare or not, it counts! I've purchased many a pony prospect sight unseen, from people I knew, and had zero problems. Because I expected nothing more than a pulse when they came off the trailer. But thats ME. I don't expect others to ascribe to the same beliefs. And when I sell? I purposely *under*describe what my offering can do. I'd rather a parent get a pleasant surprise than decide that their children were in danger while trying out whichever mount...😉 the *funniest* (to me) was a certain mother and daughter showing up to see a specific medium pony gelding I'd mentioned to them months before..."is he light to the hand or leg?" "Both" "He *CAN'T* be BOTH!" "Sure he can, I don't believe in ponytude. He's just a smaller horse, still trained properly." Daughter got on, had a blast, their trainer asked if they could take him to their stable for a week's trial and vet check, mother took me aside to sort out deposit and paperwork...and so it was done.😎 Mother came by a month later and said she wished she'd listened to me when I first mentioned him, it would have saved her 4 months and several thousand miles of looking at *every other pony*🙄 in Southern Ontario. But she's never heard of a pony that's broke to ride like a horse before! I just told her, I'd never heard of any, *not.* She then said she'd gotten to talking to other kids at the stable, who'd also been there while I'd still kept my daughter's pony there, before we rented another barn, gotten too many of our own to be financially feasible to board *out* when renting and doing the work ourselves was simply more (financially, physically)sensible, so she knew what my daughter's pony was like and thought we'd just been "lucky." Didn't realize that *any* pony could be trained to simply stand still for bathing and clipping and braiding. Pleasant shock to find their new gelding did all of those things without a battle or medications! Bona fide hero worship from ALL the other barn crew, and *her* daughter was lapping up all the admiration(she, being a bit underrated, could *use* all the attention she could get!) Did wonders for her self esteem, even more when shows came around and he'd(pony)self load and just as easily unload, was a perfect gentleman at the show grounds, never caused any fuss and managed to take her to the regional finals in their first year of partnership! Boy, was SHE happy! And then she aged out of that division. But had two younger siblings coming right behind her, so he kept on chauffeuring for another 5 years..never missed those championships either. 😎💖 I'd say he was a good investment. Mostly for me.😁👏👏🥳 I also won't say just what I paid for him nor what I sold him for. Exactly 6 months later. To the day.
THIS WOMEN POSTED 23HOURS AGO TO HER RUclips COMMUNITY THAT THE HORSE WAS NOT LAME, AND THAT HE HAS BEEN SOLD. THIS WOMEN ALSO HAS DELETED HER INSTAGRAM, AND OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS!!! JUST WITHIN THE LAST SEVERAL HOURS AS I MESSAGED HER ACCOUNT ABOUT THE PALOMINO JUST YESTERDAY.
Wow, so impressed of how you handled this situation. From deciding to stop the vet check, to being 100% honest about what your thoughts were about the whole situation, with the woman selling the horse. Good for you, loved watching this!
I love how you dealt with the situation. I think a lot of people would be pressured (just in general) to make the diagnosis as part of the vetting and pay for extras, when it's not your responsibility to take care of diagnosing the horse at that point. It was nice that she decided not to wait a few days and have x-rays taken then and there. Unfortunately, it didn't work out but this video was an excellent lesson! I am really surprised that the broker didn't want you to be there for a vet check. IMHO that alone would be a red flag. You did not do anything to ruin her repuation, her own words and actions will/have done that. I hope this situation has not put you off from purchasing another Iberian. Perhaps consider a PSL? If you're still looking for a PRE, I've heard great things (also know friends of friends who've purchased from them and they are on my list of breeders to visit) about Yeguada Susaeta. They have an active RUclips channel as well as a Facebook page. Good luck!
Got2Bespoke a lot of bigger agents aren’t used to people being around at vet checks. At least every one I have used was surprised that we wanted to be there. They weren’t too happy when we insisted on the my trainer and I being there AND videoing. They let us but you could tell they didn’t like it. Usually the owner wasn’t happy either since if anything was wrong, we would have proof and that could get out. I understand but at the same time... that is so wrong.
Horses by Hulachowdown I absolutely agree with you. If owners and representatives have nothing to hide, then they should not have any issue with a potential buyer being at a vetting. Whether it’s a 10k horse, 35k or 100k, it doesn’t really matter because it’s all relative to each buyer. If you’re making an investment there’s nothing wrong with doing your due diligence, no matter the price. I suppose I could understand being hesitant about videotaping a check (as you'd get paperwork from the vet if you're the one paying for the exam), but in this situation the broker knew he would be recording for the a blog. Now, I’ve heard plenty of stories of horses who vetted fine and then had major issues and almost an equal amount of horses who had issues revealed during the check, but then never put a foot wrong. The vetting is just another tool to know as much as possible about the investment (financially and emotionally) that you’re about to make. So, imho, if a broker/seller doesn’t want you to do a check, to use your own or independent vet, or be present for it and that makes you uncomfortable...don’t be afraid to walk away no matter how much you love the horse. Listen to your instincts. All the best and happy riding! 😀
Oh gosh, I read the comment section in the other video and they say this lady is famous. So that means this vet probably knows all about her and that's why he is especially nice to people dealing with her. My jaw dropped when I realized that.
Hi Matt, thank you for being so open and honest. It's something the equine community lacks massively. If you are looking for a trusted PRE stables in Spain I know a lady called Sophie at Spanish Elite Horses who will will genuinely help you find something suitable and clean. They get turn out, hacking and are treated like the king's they are! She is a very honest lady and just wants the best for the horses - she has even taken in rescue horses that have suffered in conditions such as the palomino you saw. She always makes sure the horse is right for the person and more importantly, the person is right for the horse!! Good luck in your search and well done for being so honest. People like you keep my hope for the equine community! @elite_spanish_horses on Instagram if you want to have a look
Routine Runaway I known Sophie since she was in lead reign class known her mum Janet and Jemma Sophie’s sister I’ve known them since 1985 about then they are such nice people she wouldn’t sell anything dodgy to you and as you say she would make sure the horse fits you as well as you fitting the horse
Hard to say for sure though. 3 year old stud surrounded by strangers and a lot going on could easily put him on edge. Could easily be just not a lot of handling or exposure to stuff.
@@EquineLiberties oh yeah. I looked through the comments during the advertises at the beginning. I hope the new owner knows about this and will treat him good and give him a correct treatment for his leg😌
I'll be right honest Matt. When I first saw your videos I was like "Oh it's just some rich model flaunting his wealth by buying horses" and so I was kind of negative towards you (I'm a small farm western riding woman so English riding and all that stuff is totally out of my league) but after watching your last few videos I was like, "He really does know his stuff and he does actually care" I was impressed by how well you've done in all the difficult situations you've been through and I'm so happy to see how transparent you are when it comes to these issues. Keep up the good work. You've got a new sub from me. 😜 P.S. I would write more about how you exceeded my standards and have impressed me, but I think all the other comments can sum it up for me. Thanks ❤️
Wow i was just about to say the same thing! I am too a western rider so i can't connect with a lot of what you're saying (also horses are undeveloped here so even like having an actual horse shop is alien to me), but after seeing this video i gained a whole new appreciation to you!
I totally enjoy following and watching your videos! Looking forward to your next one! Hopefully you will find your next horse soon! So glad that you take all the precautions.
Amber Rose. I also basically ride & show the Western All Around. I have had experience in Classical Dressage & friends on both the US & GB 3-day Teams. Matt and his partner continue to impress me. But I like a different type of horse than he does. But diversity is wonderful.
I am a veterinarian in the US. I have done thousands of vet checks. In my experience, prospective buyers are almost always at the vet check. A lay person could see that he was lame. She must have known. SMH
Ehhh I wouldn’t have known cause its hard for me to look at something moving and decide. But then again, I relaly don’t have the experience xD Anyways I have a really venemous feeling for that ladie
Hind limb lameness is less obvious especially to those with a less experienced eye but this one is fairly obvious. my horse has soundness issued but is sound enough for light riding. Hopefully this horse finds himself in a nice slower paced home or is able to have his situation managed.
Yup, how could she have known that the stallion was out of his price range? I mean Matt probably said what his price range was, but I’m sure if he wanted to, he could have bought any horse he wanted. Matt is rich.
I didn't really understand what was being said in the intro, so I was kinda going into this blind and didn't have an opinion on the agent, but the longer that woman talked, the more sceptical I became. First of all, when she mentioned that the horse nips and brushed it off as him being playfull, I knew immidiatly that that was a problem. It is a bad habit, and one a horse shouldn't have. Then, she kept interrupting the vet and that pissed me off. Just let the man talk. And what was that comment about if you weren't there, she would just have left the horse there for a couple days (probably to see if the lameness went away)? If your horse has a problem, you don't just 'leave it there'. That is the height of irresponsibility. So, even before you revealed that she is a scam, I knew that she has zero horse knowledge at best, and is a shifty conman at worst.
@@TheReevessss horses don't always display bad behaviour. Maybe he doesn't nip when tied up or maybe he only nips when inside the stable. Either way, nipping is a really bad habit. It is just one step away from actually biting, and even this can hurt a lot and break skin which can easily lead to infection, not to mention that it is very annoying when you try to groom/tack up your horse but you can't do it in peace because said horse is constantly bothering you. Did you ever actually try to handle a nipping horse?
@@SuperSkyhorse . But you were gullible. Took the woman on her word, was a nipper. Clearly the woman was trying for Matt to take the horse being maligned by owner as a nipper, while not demonstrating it.That didn't work either. Her horse was lame.
@@TheReevessss the horse being lame is an entirely different matter. Why would the woman say that the horse has a bad habit in the first place if it wasn't true? That's just stupid. To me it looks like she tried to cover it up, to claim that it is nothing bad, just the horse being playful. This way, if the horse nipped while the potential buyers are there, instead of getting a nasty surprise, they would just think that the horse is playing. She was trying to downplay the bad habits of a horse, so that if the horse happened to show them, the potential buyers wouldn't view it in such a negative light.
@@SuperSkyhorse . She was trying to make the horse appear sadly 'too harshly judged by owner. As horse stood perfectly. The horse was going to be found to be lame so she's tried to work on 'emotions', hopefully. I wouldn't believe horse was sold to Germany either. Seemed to me like a sore loser or 'a spit in rhe eye' response.
Stress is my major problem when doing a vet check, you never want to see any horse come up lame.... but it must be done...flexion tests are always stressful. At 3 yrs old, I'd be sooo careful. This agent is sketchy, she's in it for the money and not where the horse goes. I've bought horses from my best friend, having known the horse since birth, but I STILL had a vet check done!!! Sorry you're dealing with this.
Loved the height different between Matt and the vet 😂 I admire your honesty. The lady was very clearly frustrated at the revelation of the horse going irrefutably lame (vet confirmation, caught on camera). This captures the real situations people have to deal with when buying a horse and you just can’t be too careful. I hope it gets better for you Matt!
you can see it when he's lunch and he's just dragon that foot forward instead of taking it up all the way and when the vet picked that left hind up and he just was having none of that.
I absolutely love how, even as you exposed this seller, you maintained your integrity, were kind, and were sympathetic to other potential buyers. There's too much hate and revenge online, so thank you for showing us how you handled the situation well.
I usually never reply on RUclips videos but I want to compliment you on how well you handled this situation. You stayed respectful the entire time and I do think that you have the right to post this. You didn't bash the agent, you just stated what you experienced. Thank you for setting a good example on how to be a good horse owner, even in the proces of buying a new one. Well done Matt.
The horse was also positive (meaning VERY LAME) when they flexed the right hind leg on the video.. He couldn't even trot off. Most likely the hock issues are bilateral.
I found a 1 year old online and fell in love with him. I wanted to go down to see him and do the vet check and the seller made me feel so bad for doubting her because of her "reputation" and told me that so many people were putting in offers. I was so put off from the whole experience that I got so depressed and decided just not to buy another one. She messaged me EVERY day for 3 weeks saying she got another offer to that someone was going to see him. I told her I couldn't fly down for a few weeks because of work and she pressured me so much... after I finally couldnt take it anymore and texted her saying it wouldn't work out she didnt respond back (In 3 weeks she always sent 4 or 5 texts back every single time I text her.) Two months later i get a text from her saying the price way dropped and he was available for pick up within 3 days for that price. I've never blocked a number quicker in my life.. Lesson is.. I was so excited to get this beautiful horse i was going to fall for her scare tactics. It took my amazing family to remind me not to fall for it. Matt's video confirms alot of what I went through. Thank you for this video! A lot of us really needed this ❤
Ugh, that's horrible! Glad you dodged that bullet, although it honestly sounds like that woman went even further than simply trying to scam you and outright harassed you😟 People like that shouldn't be allowed to work in horse breeding let alone selling them. Lord knows how she treats her horses, if this is how she treats other people.
If they put pressure on you run in the other direction. I breed dogs ( in a VERY small way) I do everything by the book and am proud of the pups I produce - DNA tests etc etc. I never push, never need to - BUT also because I want it to work for the PUP and the new Owner- last thing I want is a puppy moving around home to home because someone has bought on impulse - I also make sure any buyers do not have a "2 minute tour" but see everything and spend time with us and the dogs/pups...save heart ache all round.
If someone is in a big hurry to sell a horse, run! I learnt the hard way with failed vet checks. Although I'm grateful I went through with the ppe even though I was pushed not to. When you look at someone with rose colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags. In other words, we want to see the best in our horses and their connections. It can make things difficult when it comes to making a lifetime investment.
Well I’m sure she knows horses I believe she is more of a shister. A swindler. She is claiming he doesn’t buy expensive horses and doesn’t know how to buy horses. She’s a total scammer! She’s pressuring him huge sign she’s a shister!
@@shyangel5384 i agree, i dont think she knows much about horses, but she surely knows how to sell them. This time she didnt do a good move tho (thank god), as Matt was smarter and clearly cared about the horse's health. She is a scammer.
The voicemails at the end of the video revealed her true attitude, the same with her message to you. That is not the attitude of someone you should deal with when purchasing a horse. And saying people aren't usually at the vet check when interested in a horse? That was suspicious. It's a good thing you took the right precautions and that you're spreading the message about taking the time and care to make sure a horse is fit, healthy and comfortable.
AmadeoVampire my horse off Craigslist had a vet check which included blood work for testing for drugs and such, and he was only 1500 at 9 years old. It’s extremely important to bet check everything cause then you know
When I worked for an equine vet, he always insisted the potential owner be present. I thought it was normal--if I was gonna make a substantial purchase of a living thing, I would want to be present at its health check.
I really hope everything turns out ok for the horse. I knew something was up with that lady... And I want to give a huge shoutout to that vet!! He was awesome. Very thorough vet check, and it was very nice of him to do a couple more x-rays free of charge. Thats the kind of vet you hope for when you buy a horse
I would love to see you do a video on the whole process of finding an agent, selecting horses, what to look for in a vet check, etc. Looking around RUclips and the internet, there's really not a whole lot of info on it (at least that I can find).
Matt the difference between you and other horse people.....is your HONESTLY! This is “PRICELESS” ....you will never regret having strong ethics....that is what character is! God bless you young man 🙏
Sorry things didn't work out. You are wise beyond your years to wait, even if the horse with such a sweet sweet face and eyes stole your heart, and get a vet check with you standing there. I have a feeling she knew that all along. Also, I didn't know you had a twin?! Can't wait to see more. Thanks for sharing. Good luck on your horse hunt!!!
Honestly Matt, you are behaving exactly with the honor and trustworthiness that is sometimes lacking in the horse industry, and thank you for posting this and all your vids: Please keep them coming. They are entertaining, enlightening, and just fun. I'm no longer able to have horses due to serious health issues, and watching your vids allows me to feel like I'm still connected in a small way. Thank you, Jesse, and your horses, for sharing.
Many people are feeding horses to grow faster, so they are easier to sell earlier. Just a thought when you both were surprised about how big he is, and it could be the reason he has problems. But a gentle and beautiful horse.
Here's the thing that is so compelling about you- you want what's best for the horse and it comes through. Thank you for showing this side of horsemanship personified.
shammy dammy the chip will give you a verified date of birth IF the breeder isn’t falsifying the information. Any animal can be chipped and details falsified while entering the information to register the chip. The chip is only as useful as the breeder is honest. Seems like a lot of work but doesn’t seem to be beyond the scope of the seller of that horse. In fact, we have dealt with breeders that have done that exact thing. The only reason we were able to catch it was we tested the DNA and found that the 3 year old in question wasn’t related to the horses listed as the dam and sire on the registration. We ended up suing the seller. When we look at teeth we can see that it is a young horse between 3 and 6 years old but can’t look at teeth and say “that definitely a three year old” if that makes sense.
I feel bad for the horses she's selling, after seeing the palomino from the last video it felt like her horsemanship weren't the best 🙄 However, this video makes me want an update on Emporio 😊
I don't think she didn't understand, I think it was more she was playing dumb to the problem. I'd bet she was aware of it from the beginning and just hoped it wouldn't be noticed
Its very important to highlight that you STOPPED the PPE and it wasn't your concern WHY the horse was lame. I'm so glad you didn't get even deeper into this situation.
Oh, and that mess about you ruining her reputation?! What a laugh! She is control of her reputation. If she has been clearly called out by you and others regarding her reputation, THAT IS ON HER AND HER SHADY DEALINGS! She is the one who tarnished her own reputation by the way she handles horses, clients and prospective buyers. wow...
Exactly! She ruined her own reputation with her behavior. Finding out a horse was lame at a vet check would not have ruined it if she had dealt with it appropriately. Her sketchy behavior was the problem.
@@ashleyc7287 the whole not wanting to do x-rays totally put me off. If you are representing your horse then you should bloody well WANT to find out what is wrong!
When I bought my horse last year, he was in bad shape, he had no muscle and was not supple at all, he was all blocked in his motion and joints... I really hesitated about buying him, but since he was already 8 and retired from the racetrack at 7.5, it's pretty standard to see it on this type of horse. So I bought him, a bit afraid of having made a bad deal, because I totally fell in love with his personality and colour. He also had very nice, promising gaits, despite his shape, so I saw potential in him for what I wanted to do (dressage)... I ended up buying him. Took me 4 months to get him together, physically. I spent months working him on the ground, teaching him the right moves to build the right muscles. At the beginning he was often stiff in his hind legs' joints, but now he's supple. I guess it was just a matter of work for him? He was lame only once (for 2 days) since I bought him, and now he's very nicely built, and doesn't show any sign of stiffness or pain anywhere in his body. He hasn't been lame since last summer, and I don't think he will be again, as long as I take good care of him. I still view him as fragile so I'm being extra careful with his joints and legs, but he's been a good surprise. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't, because anyone in their right mind shouldn't buy a horse that risks being lame if they want to ride in a demanding discipline. I just ended up being lucky, thank god. The horse was lucky too, because he's living THE life now. 😂 The great outdoors and the sea's wind are all his now. He has brightened up so much transitioning to living in stalls to living outside. He's a different horse now than he was then
@@jinscupofcoffee7075 We're doing really well, we showed Saturday night for our Barn's yearly party. It was a lot of fun and my horse performed extremely well.
I love how she was acting all tetchy like "where? where? where is it lame?" As if to say, well, you can't show me anything visible, therefore it must not be lame! Like umm, nope. Lady, you can clearly see with the naked eye the poor horse is sore! but the vet isn't a psychic, to find out "where" you need xrays -_- I really liked how you stopped the vet check but offered for her to continue if she wanted to investigate further - that would have been a very difficult situation. I would have felt so awkward so it was great to see this as an option for how to deal with things politely and professionally.
Right shes like where oh back left wheres that and the vet knew what she was doing and said well the back left leg is here 🤣🤣 loved matts face after that comments as well
I’ve had potential horses fail vet checks before. It’s really sad. One of them seemed okay when I rode him, lunged him, etc before we purchased him. The next time we went we had the trailer and everything and he completely failed the vet check and was severely lame in a hind leg after the flex test, and the owner didn’t even seem concerned. She definitely knew about it before hand... just absolutely heartbreaking
Sorry Matt that this horse failed the vet, but thankyou for showing , and I love your informative , honest and entertaining vlogs. Total empathy for the horses is so obvious. Bravo.
@@rubygln4696 Oh come on English isn't my first language, nor it is Eva's or Jesse's but for a person that sells horses internationally I would expect her to at least know the names for the horse's body parts. AND they had the horse move in the arena and it was clear as day it was the hind leg she had to look at. She has little interest in horses and big interest in money... that's basically it.
Sad that the new owners were scammed by this lady, but glad they were able to contact you and will be able to make the right decisions for this horse based on ALL of the information.
I must admit, when the agent took you to see the Palomino alarm bells were going off with me. Your video has been really informative and I am sure will help a lot of people who want to buy abroad. Wishing you all the best for you next search for another horse. All things happen for a reason.

Great job Matt. So glad you stood up for not just yourself but for other potential buyers she may have in the future. Thanks so much for being so honest!!! See ya in the next video!!!
im DISGUSTED by that woman . and i cant believe ppl tired to save her saying shes a good woman , I can clearly see that woman getting very very frustrated over the fact that u and the vet shown that she has a lame 3 year old , and then she comes at u attacking that what u doing is wrong ? when clearly SHES THE ONE IN WRONG im sorry , but that woman should not have horses and sell horses !!! Im annoyed that she dared to lie to a girl in Germany and dare to sell it to her and disappear , all horse ppl should watch this video and see that woman's true colors !!! she sold an expensive horse that was lame and that even the vet said that if hes lame at 3 year old he could even be lame for the rest of his life and not be ridden and do the things his new owner wants. JUST DISGUSTING !!!!!!!!
Veronika Kalmar Hi Veronika Im from Germany. And yes im agree with you ! The woman Patricia is searched in Germany because she is a deceiver. She must be reported quickly to the police.. In Germany she had much sick horses selled and told the buyer that the horse is competitive.. She had also a fake vet involved and later the both had a prison sentence. And know she do the same in Spain...
This is why I love watching you, your honest, genuine and you don’t hide anything, I’m so glad that you decided to come out with this video and not hide anything from your subscribers ❤️🐴
vet checks are so important, i hope that people will get it after this story! the poor girl who bought this horse, i feel so sorry for her. i admire you a lot for being so honest with us matt! shows just how well your treating your horses and what a good soul you have.
I've said before that you have my respect. This has definitely reaffirmed to me that you are a trustworthy guy who cares about the horses. Keep it up!!
Matt, thank you for being a stand-up guy. It's a rare thing to find this day and age, especially in your field and others similar to it. I greatly appreciate that you shared this information with everyone so that it might teach and/or remind folks to always go the distance before you purchase any animal from a breeder/seller.
Bravo. ✊🏻 so proud of you for doing this! To bad Germany - the purchaser cannot find your video before their purchase. Wow! Insulting you as you cannot afford this horse. 😒😏🤭🤔 the ego the arrogance the narcissistic actions against you! Gaslighting you!?? My my! Shame on her!
Honestly Matt, she should thank you for all the vet check you did for her !! 3 000 euros, thats a lot of money. Horses are just industry for her. soo sad. :(
major respect for you. it’s so disappointing and sad that this is how some people treat living, breathing, beautiful animals. people like her need to be shown for who they are. keep doing what you’re doing!
I'm so sad this happened. The vet was incredible and definitely went the extra mile so kudos to him. I vet checked my horse and his issue didn't come up in the vet check, if I had xrayed it might have. He's not lame, just not even in his hips; he's fine for the light work we do but he would never had made a completion horse. I still love him though and he's spoiled rotten. Good luck in the future and I'm sure the perfect horse is out there for you.
Matt, my respect for you just increased ten fold. My daughter and I will be shopping for multiple horses at the end of the year. My ex (her father) was an equine vet so we know a lot of what to look for in a horse. But I totally agree on any horse a PPE exam n should be performed. I remember one exam I assisted in where the seller had represented the horses as being child / beginner safe. The horse was physically sound but the purchaser had also asked us to review for level of training to protect her child. The seller was reluctant to let me ride the horse but eventually agreed. The horse was greener than green broke & even tried to go through a fence instead of turning when asked. Needless to say he failed the check. The potential purchaser was pleased but the seller refused to allow my ex back on his property. A n do this was an inexpensive Horse. So please all, have a PPE done on any horse you may be considering. And speaking to prior clients of the agent may also be helpful.
Thank you so much for standing up and speaking out against this women! It is entirely unacceptable that she misrepresented this horse. You are very brave to speaking up. Many of us have been taken advantage of over the years by “dealers” “agents” and “trainers”. I applaud you for using this platform and giving us ALL a voice.
Everytime I watch a video from you, my respect for you grows tremendously. Thank you for being such an honest and compassionate horse owner. Real horsemanship here👏
:( she sold the horse! Poor baby! Not many people think of the horse in a future perspective. Not only is the horse going to grow larger but if he hasn’t been trained yet he’s going to have hours of being ridden on top of being ground worked. The joint 💔 thank you Matt for your honesty.
I am afraid that woman will sue you for making all of this public, including the voicemails etc... Thank you for the video, you are doing such important work. But I really hope you wont get in huge trouble for it...
Jeanie Moir initially he did, however the lady revoked the permission when she asked him not to post or share anything regarding the horses failed vet check. She very well come at him with a slander lawsuit. Not that it would likely go anywhere. I think he dodged a bullet here! Those bone spurs are a early indication of osteoarthritis which will only get worse as the horse gets older.
Slander only works if things are false and she initially agreed to being filmed. She's not gonna get anywhere if she tries to sue, ESPECIALLY since she sold a lame horse to people that were unaware. She has done too many shady things and it's now documented.
Hi Matt I still think you should get a lusitano horse because they're very versatile, and some of them are big (to match your body size) But if you still want a PRE breed, you could try to look for it in Portugal for example, not only in Spain. You could as well talk with João (guy who trained Emporio) to give you some advice or help you to find the horse you're looking for. It's just my thought, you'll do what ever you want to, of course. Keep searching and good luck!!!
@@Acadian.FrenchFry I think that depends from horse to horse, but I understand what your saying. Some of them(the stallions) can be head strong or stubborn, but I also met/deal with some lusitanos that are pretty great and chilled
All too often our hearts rule our heads, especially when we love the type of animal. (For instance, we "call" ourselves a "dog person", a "cat person", a "horse" person.) I scour YT for horse videos to learn more, to admire the looks, to laugh at antics and, occasionally to cuss at stupidity. Like many others here, I discovered Matt's channel and was pleasantly surprised to have gotten hooked. One of the main things that I especially admire about the last two videos is that, although he clearly gets emotionally attached to the horses, he also knows and understands that he can't allow his heart to rule his head. Horses are incredibly expensive to own and maintain properly. As a friend once said to me, "Free horses are the most expensive horses because if they were sound, they wouldn't be free." As a polo player, I've ALWAYS been present at for vet checks and, on several occasions, have had more than 1 independent vet check to make sure that the horses are thoroughly sound. This might sound cruel, but I would never buy a horse who failed a vet check, just because I fell in love with the color, the personality, or, even more important, just to get the horse out of a bad situation. Why? Because every horse I've ever owned I fall in love with and if I had to put the horse down, it would break my heart -- not to mention the expense that's incurred. So I applaud Matt, not for just being transparent with this video and warning other potential buyers, but for also educating his followers on the importance of vet checks and also his kindness and the balance of heart and head. Well done, Matt.
I agree with many of the people in the comments that my instincts gave me a funny feeling about her in the first video.. so many snakes in the horse industry because they know they can make a big buck from people if they’re sneaky enough... to have even shown the palamino in the last video without even a sense of remorse for its living conditions, never mind the barbaric tools they used which I’m sure she was aware of, just goes to show she isn’t in the business for the right reason Disgraceful Well done Matt you’re a fantastic teacher for so many by just being honest and open, exactly what the horse world needs
So glad she contacted you! That is SO SHADY that she did not disclose the vet check to the new owner! Disgusting.
Matt Harnacke save the palominoo!💔
Unbelievable. I‘m lost for words. How can someone be like this.. wow. So sorry for that girl who might be fallen in love with this horse already..
This is unfortunate. He was stunning. Vet checks are needed and many people do not have them done. I purchased my first Andalusian a few months ago and am glad I had one done. Best of luck to you.
This vet was really taking his job seriously, and I really respect that. Can we have more of these vets?
Exactly, This vet is professional on his place.

Yea especially when she introduced the third one hmmmmmm

Well I live in Spain and I'm involved in the Spanish horse business.
Sadly, she's still up and running and doing JUST fine.

Me too! His attitude and true love of the horses, as individuals, is a main reason I follow his channel.
I agree
Ok but what a great vet tho. I know that most vets are like this, and every time I see a great vet i’d like to mention them hahah.
I was also impressed with the vet. Can you share his name with us?
I really liked this vet as well. I was a tech for years and have known several great ones and a few arrogant asses along the way. I liked how professional he was
His english was good. I am not sure my vet can speak english like that 😁😁
your face when he had to tell her which leg was the left hind one... lmao. I'm hoping that was just a language barrier moment and not a "what is a horse" moment
Hahah didn't notice first😂😂😂
I was choking. 😂😂😂😂
It was like she was trying to act shocked about the news, but it was so phony and made her look uneducated.
His face is hilarious! I think she was asking where on the left hind but oh man, what a funny moment. LOL

A thing I heard tho is that she is being searched for by Interpol lmao

@@Acadian.FrenchFry Thats my guess.
@@Acadian.FrenchFry Yes, exactly. Even just feeding hay too high in protein (like pure alfalfa rather than grass hay) can cause OCD or other bone/growth issues in larger breeds.
I mean our quarter horses are a little bigger than others their age and we don't supplement them and they also don't have any health problems
You’re 👏 selling 👏 a 👏 soul👏 SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
And all the goddamn breeders out there who dont care after the horse is sold....and continue to pump out horses....lreland is very bad welfare wise.
A huge red flag for me was that she took you to see that poor horse that was living in sub-standard conditions with evidence of harsh treatment and handling (like use of spiked bridle/noseband?). Like, no, lady, this is not okay.
Idk if I'm dumb but where was the spiked bridle?
@@MissHeatWave It wasn't wearing one in the vid, but there was scarring on his nose/face where you could see one had been used.
That! That was very upsetting! 😒 I don't like that lady

I'd rather a parent get a pleasant surprise than decide that their children were in danger while trying out whichever mount...😉 the *funniest* (to me) was a certain mother and daughter showing up to see a specific medium pony gelding I'd mentioned to them months before..."is he light to the hand or leg?"
"Both"
"He *CAN'T* be BOTH!" "Sure he can, I don't believe in ponytude. He's just a smaller horse, still trained properly." Daughter got on, had a blast, their trainer asked if they could take him to their stable for a week's trial and vet check, mother took me aside to sort out deposit and paperwork...and so it was done.😎
Mother came by a month later and said she wished she'd listened to me when I first mentioned him, it would have saved her 4 months and several thousand miles of looking at *every other pony*🙄 in Southern Ontario.

I Love the vet!! He helped me with a horse I was supposed to buy from the same lady. And do I need to say that I didn't buy the horse....

Wow i was just about to say the same thing! I am too a western rider so i can't connect with a lot of what you're saying (also horses are undeveloped here so even like having an actual horse shop is alien to me), but after seeing this video i gained a whole new appreciation to you!

Amber Rose. I also basically ride & show the Western All Around. I have had experience in Classical Dressage & friends on both the US & GB 3-day Teams. Matt and his partner continue to impress me. But I like a different type of horse than he does. But diversity is wonderful.
The funny thing is, he was at a horse show when he was discovered by a modeling agent. Horses came before modeling.
I am a veterinarian in the US. I have done thousands of vet checks. In my experience, prospective buyers are almost always at the vet check. A lay person could see that he was lame. She must have known. SMH
Oh she definitely knew.
Ehhh I wouldn’t have known cause its hard for me to look at something moving and decide. But then again, I relaly don’t have the experience xD
Anyways I have a really venemous feeling for that ladie
I believe she knew as well... She's shady!
Hind limb lameness is less obvious especially to those with a less experienced eye but this one is fairly obvious. my horse has soundness issued but is sound enough for light riding. Hopefully this horse finds himself in a nice slower paced home or is able to have his situation managed.
StinkyButton absolutely! However, there are less experienced people and they would let it slide. That why that broker lady said nothing.
As soon as she said the first stallion was out of your price range, she showed arrogance and treated you like a newbie.
With that she just wanted to say that the horse is not for sale and probably yes, out of his payrange
Nipping wasn't worth mentioning. By owner or you. Because horse was perfectly behaved. Wasn't evident. Good horse.
Clearly the woman was trying for Matt to take the horse being maligned by owner as a nipper, while
not demonstrating it.That didn't work either.
Loved the height different between Matt and the vet 😂
I admire your honesty.
She even took down her Instagram page. That speaks for itself...
glad that you’ve been so honest about your experience Matt!!
I'd like to say this put her out of business but probably not.
Matt, you have just given every potential horse buyer an invaluable education. Thank you so much!
@@rachelw8506 I was thinking of first time buyers who perhaps have not been exposed to less than honest agents.
I never liked that lady in the first place... I’m not an avid horse video watcher but when I first saw her she seemed strange to me
is it the blond lady that was in the vid? the one asking "where where???" in reference to the lame leg?
@@kenwithaK yes its her
I usually never reply on RUclips videos but I want to compliment you on how well you handled this situation. You stayed respectful the entire time and I do think that you have the right to post this. You didn't bash the agent, you just stated what you experienced.
Thank you for setting a good example on how to be a good horse owner, even in the proces of buying a new one. Well done Matt.
Yes! This exactly. So composed, respectful, passionate about the well-being of the horse.
emilyslaluna * well said. My thoughts exactly.

I told her I couldn't fly down for a few weeks because of work and she pressured me so much... after I finally couldnt take it anymore and texted her saying it wouldn't work out she didnt respond back (In 3 weeks she always sent 4 or 5 texts back every single time I text her.)
Two months later i get a text from her saying the price way dropped and he was available for pick up within 3 days for that price. I've never blocked a number quicker in my life..
Lesson is.. I was so excited to get this beautiful horse i was going to fall for her scare tactics. It took my amazing family to remind me not to fall for it. Matt's video confirms alot of what I went through. Thank you for this video! A lot of us really needed this ❤
Wow! What a scammer. Glad you didn't get burned.
@@Acadian.FrenchFry thank you! Yeah I'm glad I dodged that bullet.
Ugh, that's horrible! Glad you dodged that bullet, although it honestly sounds like that woman went even further than simply trying to scam you and outright harassed you😟
People like that shouldn't be allowed to work in horse breeding let alone selling them.
The way Matt handled the situation was amazing being mature and not getting angry whilst also making a point 🤩
I agree! Much kinder and cooler head than I would have had being lied to that way. He should be proud.
Matt you are wonderful. I dont think that lady knows anything about horses and dont care about horses only money. Hugs matt.
Well I’m sure she knows horses I believe she is more of a shister. A swindler. She is claiming he doesn’t buy expensive horses and doesn’t know how to buy horses. She’s a total scammer! She’s pressuring him huge sign she’s a shister!
I think she's knows a LOT about horses and that's why she knows how to hide some things. And yes, she cares more about the money than the horse.
I agree
But she did not even know what hind leg was.
It’s extremely important to bet check everything cause then you know
Wow! Some horse traders are just that. No change even in a different country fro the old Wild West!
Thank you for being the horses' advocate. They let us ride them, we owe them that
This this this! I love that outlook. We do owe them.
I would love to see you do a video on the whole process of finding an agent, selecting horses, what to look for in a vet check, etc. Looking around RUclips and the internet, there's really not a whole lot of info on it (at least that I can find).
I agree with that also! Since my guy came from a rescue.
Yes!!
I agree! That would be a great follow-up video!
I am always impressed with you and Jesse's honesty, kindness and pro horse stance. Please keep doing what you two do..
Many people are feeding horses to grow faster, so they are easier to sell earlier.
Just a thought when you both were surprised about how big he is, and it could be the reason he has problems.
But a gentle and beautiful horse.
I am doubting the gentle part. If they were hoping he wouldn't catch lameness, I could see giving some tranqs to keep a 3yo stallion quiet.

Here's the thing that is so compelling about you- you want what's best for the horse and it comes through. Thank you for showing this side of horsemanship personified.
This is a classic case of a very young horse doing too much to soon.
What if she lied about this horse’s age..?
@@kaleriamusse8162 He has papers, he's chipped and they looked at his teeth. Those verify his age.
shammy dammy teeth can give you a close estimate but not an exact age.
@@Amclaren2009 They're close. And his chip?
shammy dammy the chip will give you a verified date of birth IF the breeder isn’t falsifying the information.
This horse is SO pretty Matt, love your decision though. Ugh; that vet is fantastic. Hope everything goes good!
Your voice isn’t going to ruin her reputation. She’s doing a great job of doing that all by herself.
I feel bad for the horses she's selling, after seeing the palomino from the last video it felt like her horsemanship weren't the best 🙄
However, this video makes me want an update on Emporio 😊
The giveaway for me was when she didn’t understand where the back leg was on the horse...
She was obviously dishonest, but I don't think English is her first language so she might just not have understood.
Ore she wanted here money, to me it seemed that she could speak very well English…
@@RavenmockerxX but she was present as that horse was lunged so she must have seen the problem...
She is the one who tarnished her own reputation by the way she handles horses, clients and prospective buyers. wow...
And Matt didn't make her screw up. She did that on her own. He also didn't name her either.
I never trusted that lady 😂
Destini Taylor me ethier

Matt you did the right thing. That lady is not ethical or trustworthy. I hope the horse will be ok. Much respect to you.

Theres nothing to sue over at the end of the day.. she agreed to being filmed from the get go and matt isnt actually saying anything false
Slander only works if things are false and she initially agreed to being filmed. She's not gonna get anywhere if she tries to sue, ESPECIALLY since she sold a lame horse to people that were unaware. She has done too many shady things and it's now documented.
Hi Matt
I still think you should get a lusitano horse because they're very versatile, and some of them are big (to match your body size)
But if you still want a PRE breed, you could try to look for it in Portugal for example, not only in Spain.
You could as well talk with João (guy who trained Emporio) to give you some advice or help you to find the horse you're looking for. It's just my thought, you'll do what ever you want to, of course.
Keep searching and good luck!!!
Don't Lusitano's have a more hot temperament though? I hear they can be a lot of horse for some people.
@@Acadian.FrenchFry I think that depends from horse to horse, but I understand what your saying. Some of them(the stallions) can be head strong or stubborn, but I also met/deal with some lusitanos that are pretty great and chilled
This is by far your best video by now. So important! Please keep updating.
As a friend once said to me, "Free horses are the most expensive horses because if they were sound, they wouldn't be free."
As a polo player, I've ALWAYS been present at for vet checks and, on several occasions, have had more than 1 independent vet check to make sure that the horses are thoroughly sound.
I agree with many of the people in the comments that my instincts gave me a funny feeling about her in the first video.. so many snakes in the horse industry because they know they can make a big buck from people if they’re sneaky enough... to have even shown the palamino in the last video without even a sense of remorse for its living conditions, never mind the barbaric tools they used which I’m sure she was aware of, just goes to show she isn’t in the business for the right reason
Disgraceful
Well done Matt you’re a fantastic teacher for so many by just being honest and open, exactly what the horse world needs
