    I could be wrong, I’m a dog trainer not a horse trainer, but I noticed that the mouthing behaviors started when no one was touching him and stopped (he began to engage in self soothing behaviors like eating hay) when he was being pet along his neck or even just touched on his haunch.
    I think this horse is craving touch. Grooming time before letting him out and after might help him calm down and build more calm associations in your presence.
    Enrichment toys might also really benefit him. You can try interactive hay feeders / food puzzles to give him appropriate outlets for his mouthing behaviors/keep his mouth busy.

      Well noticed and well said. It also specifically caught my attention. When Jesse touches him and gives attention he seems "grounded", safe and seen. The mouthering behaviour clearly starts when the touching stops, and the intense search for soothing himself goes on.
      You are such a truly kind, empathetic and unbelievable pure person, Jesse. The way your energy soothes and connects with horses is noticeable in each and every way. And Gaio has a truly special bond with you ❤️

    Gaio has to have some PTSD facing bulls while they are being tortured and killed. Bullfighting is so violent and cruel.

    • @TallulahBelle3276
      @TallulahBelle3276 11 месяцев назад +74

      💯. When I learned about what is done to the bulls before the “fighting” I was beside myself. I still get the same way when I think about it. It’s shocking that anyone still thinks this is a sport and that it continues. I think it’s about money because knowing what I know, it shouldn’t be about pride in being the bullfighter. It’s just a show of torturing the bull. As big as the animal is, the things they do to the bull before he goes into the so called fight make it nearly impossible for the bull.
      Trigger warning, They put petroleum jelly in their eyes, they put wet newspaper wadded up inside their ears and they insert a sharp blade into their genitalia to continue to injure them every time they move. Which makes them go wild in pain. They can’t see or hear while they’re fighting. If you can call it fighting. All for entertainment. You’ve gotta be a special kinda cruel to want to watch this.
      We should have evolved enough to not use animals for entertainment in this way. It’s beyond cruel and should be outlawed.

    • @boa1793
      @boa1793 11 месяцев назад +30

      I watched it once in Wyoming and was appalled, disgusted. What a horrible thing to do. It seems it’s for men who feel they have to prove themselves. In Spain they’ve got all sorts of rules and traditions and totally ignore the feelings of the animals. I feel sorry for guys being raised around that.

I think he probably has PTSD from facing near death encounters with bulls, but as Simone says, this will unwind over time and he doesn't want to be pitied or treated with kid gloves. He needs toys to play with. He is very mouthy. I had a horse once like that and he loved his toys. His favorite was a rubber jolly ball. Not the hard ones they make now. He would ruin them, but that was okay as he enjoyed playing with it. Those are hard to find these days, but may be available in the UK. They also make a pacifier that has rollers to lip while in his stall. He has an active brain and this might help with anxiety or boredom.

    So cool. Neat that she mentioned how animals can telepathically connect with their humans. I had to take a trip recently and while gone I had a dream that one of my cats was thirsty. I called home and my daughter said the kitty water fountain was empty (they have multiple water sources, but this is a favorite). And my husband said that no one had showered that day, so there was no residual water in the tub. The kitty I dreamt of loves to drink out of the bath. I was over 1,000 miles away. Animals are amazing. Great content, Jesse!

    This video with Gaio and Symone was so good. What struck me most was when Gaio said “you should soften up and open your heart to another horse; if you open your heart to him, he will open his heart to you so you can heal and help each other.” That may be challenging because of the deep love you feel for Andorra and also how hard it was for you when you lost touch with Carino. I think you feel love on a deeper level than most people; this can be scary that it will be difficult later when you experience a loss, but you will also have the deeper memories of the love you held and that will help you through the hard times. You will never need to second guess yourself that you gave Andorra, and all your animals, the very best of your love and care which in turn gave them the very best in life. You are an exceptional soul and the animals and special people in your life are very lucky to have you.

      He also has a wicked sense of humour, with regard people who are never going to make it as riders. Either they get hurt and can no longer ride, or the horse is unsound, of body or mind, too sentimental to sell it so ends up a paddock pet.

He would have been in an environment in the bull fighting ring that horses would be in sensation overload. Fear. The sounds. Feelings. violence. Horses are so sensitive. Intuitive to feelings. You are a beautiful sensitive person that I can see on your clips and your interaction with your horses is gentle but a strong leader. This is what he needs. Time heals all. All that mouthing was driving me crazy...but then I realized that I was fidgeting with my finger on chapped lip the whole video, and I wondered how much I drive people crazy in meetings with my fidgeting with pen caps or pencil twirling. Some label it a sign of inattention, which baffles me because I do it more when I'm engaged, and I was EXTREMELY interested in this video. Like she’s explained … he seems to show signs of being traumatized, from his past … not unlike that of PTSD. Whether he’s genetically predisposed to working as a bull-fighting horse or not … he was probably broken/trained in an unkind way! Also, maybe he’s sensitive to the infliction of pain.
    Has he got ulcers? Sounds like he needs a Vet check to book into the two areas of pain. He also needs hay and/or to be allowed to graze often. Sad he’s looking for company … he’s lonely!

    Might I suggest a horse “ball”. The inflated ball that has a place for horses to hold the ball and shake it and run around and stuff. I think that will help him get some of that energy out

    OMG- THIS is why you don't hand feed horses. WOW. This guy is making him anxious by enabling him with all this head and mouth touching.

    • @stephd2596
      @stephd2596 4 месяца назад +1

      But it’s not caused from hand feeding. I think it comes from tension and anxiety, my lusitano used to be exactly the same when he was young and has never been hand fed - I’ve owned him since weaning. These are very highly bred horses with a lot of energy and it’s very fine line balancing that energy in a positive way vs tension. If you’ve never owned one it’s probably hard to understand as they are quite unlike warmbloods or your cold blooded horses

    • @cellphonefree5282
      @cellphonefree5282 4 месяца назад

      @@stephd2596 Regardless of the breed, this should not be tolerated. He'd be calmer for it. Makes me anxious just watching this video! Excuses for bad training.

    • @stephd2596
      @stephd2596 4 месяца назад +1

      @@cellphonefree5282 I agree a training programme should focus on reducing the underlying tension and anxiety (rather than the mouthiness which is just a symptom). I’m just saying the cause is not hand feeding.

    The reading for the earlier horse was terrific because he was able to express that he can't make the owner's dreams come true. Such huge expectations placed on horses without the owners/handlers being aware of the horse's needs. Peace, love and kindness to all horses.

    He seems like a mallinois in dog version. Or tigers stuck in a cage. Think he needs field life . Also I believe needs a leader ,he gets away with a lot & wants to relax and have someone else make all the decissions. IMHO. Some Steve young horsemanship methodology might help also for him in particular to reduce his anxiety . I know your awesome but occasionally get one with layers beyond what many experience and I'd say bull fighting is probably that extreme type edge. Pretty rare.

    What a beautiful thing this communication is! I have had three horses and they all had different backgrounds. My first was young, like I was, at the time. She loved to be silly and played jokes on me all the time. We had such silly fun together! Now I ride English seat and go fox hunting. She was a quarter horse, very athletic. I took on another horse who was having behavioral problems, a little older than my first horse but quite strong and very tall. He was totally refusing to jump. Throwing his owner off repeatedly. She became afraid of him. I agreed to give him a try. The first time I rode him we were out in a field and the other girl wouldn't get back on him. I put her on my silly horse, who was absolutely safe and trustworthy and mounted her horse. It was the only way to get this frightened girl back to the barn. I tried a little experiment with a low jump that was set up in the field. I just had him stroll up to it. We just stood there while I read his body language. Even as a teen I would do that. I was trying to get a feel for what he saw and felt as we approached the jump. He tensed and slowed down. I just reassured him, gently urging him forward until we were close enough for me to lean forward and touch the wood. All the while reassuring him and and giving him long slow pets down his neck. I could sense he liked that. As I did it, his muscles relaxed. We circled around and approached the jump two more times, just like that. Then we circled around a fourth time and I held him back, facing the jump. I placed a picture in my head of him sailing over the jump and began the approach at a brisk trot. He seemed ambivalent for a moment and when I gave him the urging to jump, he DID! It wasn't the most graceful jump on record but, it passed with a C-. That began the deepest and best relationship I ever had with a horse! This was decades ago and I still miss him.❤

    I loved this video - I saw the belly scars today and I wonder if he could have some discomfort due to scar tissue buildup. I know that Gaio has growing to do, but so do you, Jesse. You can love more than one horse - you will never forget a single one, and your first love will always be Ani. You can still connect deeply with other horses, and come to love them. Your heart is a muscle and can literally stretch to hold everything you allow in. Gaio wants to be in your heart too, so relax that heart muscle a bit - keep on using your amazing intuition, but don't be afraid to lean on him a little - I think he would like that very much.

    Gaio must be a very strong, brave and intelligent horse that has had to deal with more stress than usual. It's like he has been to war I guess. He is strong so he hides his softness and fragility. He must have a great personality to still be so kind after everything he has seen and been through. He reminds of he kind of person that hides their feelings to look strong. Gaio might relax a lot out in a field with a buddy, just be a horse for a while, not a warrior.
