Hinata's last line never stops putting a smile to my face
he doesnt say sth like "we can still win" "we'll catch up" "we'll do this"
Hinata's no.1 priority was "I get to play volleyball for one more set!"
It's a very nice moment given his first ever tournament game was just 2 sets total

Yeah, Hinatas ultimate motivation is that he just wants to play more volleyball and if you know that, there are actually a lot of little lines of dialogue and moments like this one in the entire show.

Yeah, playing more volleyball games is far more important to him than just simply winning. The main reason for his strong desire to win goes way back in episode 1. Only strong players get to play more volleyball.

Coach at 28:31 Kageyama mentions that the most troublesome person on the court wasn't the opposing blockers, but his own teammate Hinata. I'm guessing it's cause of how hard it is to try and keep up/stay ahead of him. My question is have you ever had a teammate like that?

In a recent interview with the mangaka (manga author), Furudate-sensei, explains that "you have to tell the readers where the manga is headed in the first chapter". And it wasn't just the first chapter, Furudate-sensei is nothing but consistent in smoothly foreshadowing future events with seemingly casual stillshots and scenes (particularly flashbacks!). There was so much foreshadowing in this episode that I think you'll appreciate in retrospect haha.

    • @dinkybarrel
      @dinkybarrel 2 года назад +15

@@wakatpr6583 Haikyuu doesn't have 'filler' episodes, unlike most other long-running shonen series. So the arcs covered proceed relatively smoothly from S3 to S4 (with the two OVA episodes covering the non-Karasuno arc in between)
There's foreshadowing for the arcs covered in S4, which I won't name or point out because of spoilers. But his foreshadowing is really subtle so you won't know it until it happens and you realise 'oh yeah'. So I won't worry about you being spoiled unless you go out of your way to look for spoilers.
Furudate never abruptly introduces things, he plays a really long game, building them on a solid foundation of small hints, interactions and development. You just won't see the payoff coming until it hits you.
So don't worry if you miss the foreshadowing (you're not supposed to notice it!) Lots of fans will be very happy to callback to the relevant episodes in comments as they happen.

10:15 actually I think this scene is not a discouraging teammate, in fact the captain is being so excited and hyper, but you know, sometimes you do know the goal he made doesn't seem to be realistic and it could be hard for others to catch up. They may not be encouraged by the goal when they don't think they can make it.
So what the teammate is suggesting is that the captain should set a more achievable goal for others to follow. It's nice to have a great target of course, never a bad thing, but not everyone feels good about it.
And the captain is actually being happy about his teammate's response. Everytime when he said about going the nationals, no one responded, not even arguing with him. But this time his teammate finally give some feedback which is a good thing. It means they care. Opposing ideas are not always bad, not reaching an agreement is bad. And when you can truly and comfortably express your feeling and thoughts, even they might be different from the others, it is a nice thing to do. That's communication of a team.

totally agree with your sentiment here. their teammates response to their captain is a healthy one. even if it can seem negative in coach donny's eyes. his reaction could be just from him not being exposed to a lot of sports anime tropes ie. how it can be a common thing for teams to always set the highest achievable goal like nationals.

Hey coach, I think you missed the subtle point at 8:51. when the old captain said he wanted to win nationals, and the other player said they should aim for something more attainable, that wasn’t the other player trying to be a downer, it was in fact an improvement from his previous attitude. the other players used to not care about how they performed or where they finished, but now they’re starting to show signs that they do care. I don’t think he’s wrong for saying they should go for something more attainable because it’s logical to understand that you won’t immediately rise to the top of the pyramid in such a short time. On a journey of 1000 steps, you start with the first.

... I wonder if coach Washijo allowed Hinata to stay as a ballboy and catch balls not just to challenge his spirit, but also to have him improve on things other than jumping and spiking which are the other important skills in volleyball that he clearly sucks at.
In the 1st cour of season 4, it was clear that Hinata's passion for playing the sport runs deep. He didn't get discouraged but rather felt challenged when Ushijima commented about his lack of skills in the prev episode. Much like in the next season when the coach straight out told him he's basically useless without Kageyama, at least in the old coach's books.
And of course, the great lesson on how passion and energy are not enough to get you going. The words Takeda sensei told him after their he got subbed out during the match against Kamomedai. "He who climbs the ladder must begin at the bottom." The quote that hung on Hinata's room in Brazil.
I'm still getting chills. And I've read this manga a dozen times already.

I got into haikyuu a bit late so I had the chance to binge watch 3 seasons in a row because I’m impatient ( except for season 4 ).
I never got the chance to watch it one episode at a time when it was still airing weekly so I never got the thrill of waiting what’s going to happen next. While I watched haikyuu multiple times already, waiting for coach Donny’s upload every Saturday allowed me to have that waiting experience/ thrill of waiting for an episode of haikyuu for seasons 1-3. I can watch haikyuu over and over but it still gets me so excited and on edge about every game. The atmosphere, pacing and story just submerges you into watching a volleyball game that you can’t help but invest feelings on it every single time you watch like an audience member would watching an actual sports match despite knowing what will happen next. At least for me anyways.

They both have an interest in and love for volleyball and art, but Furudate became an artist and used volleyball to enhance his art, and Coach Donny became an athlete and is using his art knowledge to step up his commentary.

I have a similar personal motto for volleyball to your team, I tell my teammates to Talk, Smile, Raise. It's based on a commercial for recognizing strokes, but it works very well for volleyball too.
    1. Talk; don't be silent, talk positively to your teammates and shout that you have the ball, shout that you want the ball, shout when you get points, and shout to terrify your opponents!
    2. Smile; Smile because you're having fun, smile to trick your brain into being positive, smile to your teammates and smile because a smiling opponent is terrifying!
    3. Raise; Raise your arms, raise your legs, raise your voice, raise your teammates, and raise the mood on the court!
I'm not sure how well it works for my teammates to hear me say it, but it helps my own mental attitude on the court, so I can keep smiling, running and shouting until I can neither talk nor walk the next day. My new team has it's first two matches together tomorrow, and I'm nervous since I'm the setter, and I've been a designated middle for 4 years now, so I'm really glad I get to chill with a Coach Donny video the evening before.
