Thank you so much for putting this video together. It was VERY informative and put to rest the rumor that a mangrove plant will die from simply breaking a small piece of its root off.
This was a greaaat video! very informative and i really like the passion for seeking facts!! Keep up the amazing work and putting your heart into what you do!! Thanks A lot Man! enjoyed the video
I just found this video because I am considering triming my mangrove roots for esthetics, but I don't want it to die. Great work on your experiment. Did you ever end up doing an update video? I couldn't find it, but I want to know what happened
Love it, trying to rescue a mangrove for which the leaves have fallen off and shoot dried out a bit. Will cut the dried shoot off and see if she puts out a new shoot! They are just too expensive in Oz!
Great video. Can’t wait to see what they all look like in another month. Since you’ve seen these results and have stated that the roots are not the causation of mangrove deaths, what is your hypothesis on why so many mangrove propagules perish post travel to individuals tanks? I know there is plenty of evidence that this happens but I guess still uncertain about why they die so quickly post transport. I purchased 13 from an online seller and lost 12 within the first 2 weeks. 2.5 years later, that one has survived and grown into a healthy tree. My other thought to the experiment is maybe adding one where you cut the root not at the base of the tree but somewhere halfway down simulating a small trauma in transit but not a complete loss of the root. Maybe there is better growth in regeneration of roots if the whole root is cut off near the base. Im no expert in mangroves just trying to figure out why so many die.
Do you know if mangroves will grow prop roots if planted in the substrate? I’ve heard you have to suspend them to get the roots. Love the videos, mate.
Thanks for doing this experiment. Apparently what they require the most is a lot of light and good water, apparently brackish water is preferred 🌊🌿🌊 😎👍 - Ramon 🇲🇽
I have couple of the mangrove about 2 months. They are not growing as I'd like to. I put some them in my reef tank and some in fresh water. None of them grow more leave but more root. Is mangrove slow grow or what I need to make the plants grow faster?
id bet that the myth came from someone who ordered a few online and didnt keep them in the best conditions so when one root was damaged that one was unable to endure the suboptimal conditions but the ones with undamaged roots were able to
if i had to guess itll just grow more roots i mean thats kinda what plants do if you can grow a an entire tree from a single leaf then one damaged root will do nothing at all
@@Globe_Drifter it would take many mangroves (like, more than your tank caudal accommodate) over many years to provide any noticeable nutrient export effect on your tank.

Nice one mate! Love a good bit of myth busting! 🤘
Thanks me too
Awesome experiment, I love watching myth busting videos. Update will be cool to see.
I can’t wait for the update…
I just love such experiements. Cant wait to see how the mangroves will do
Ghost you liked it
Loved the video, and just had one question. Do you think there would be any difference in the outcome between fresh water and salt water?
Thanks so much for this myth busting video
I love mangrove and this video is so useful thanks for sharing 😉.
Glad you like it
Hey, great video, any updates now a year later? Thanks!

Let us know if you have an update too please.
Yes I did a short one in one of my fish room updates. All survived and regrow all leaves and roots
Hello all! I did a little experiment on magrove seed pods. Let me know what you think in the comments below 👇

It's because you need to get your plants acclimated to the new environment and water type.

They definitely grow roots in substrate
more experiments!

That's false. Fresh is preferred.
How fast do they grow for you? I'm thinking to keep one in my IM Lagoon 25 tank.

I'd really love to see what happened to the one without a stem! I JUST broke mine and I'm worrying I killed it, it still has the roots though.
How did it turn out?
I've had dead mangroves grow roots, but they didn't survive.
You need at least 6 months to make a valid determination.
I've a question for you , can i plant mangrove in Dsb ?
Absolutely, it's the best for them
@@EverydayAquarist Thanks very much 👍.

Any update?
I wonder if the death of my occur later on like in a year or so? I have 3/5 mangroves that are about 2years old that have died…and I don’t know why???
All have made a full recovery
Update?
Watch my latest video
Any updates? i think 2 months is too short of an experiment for these slow growers.
Completely grew back
@@EverydayAquarist AWSOME!!
Mangroves aren't worth it they grow so slow and remove very little
That's not true, they remove tons of excess nutrients and create a lot of oxygen
@@Globe_Drifter how bout you try it before you open ya mouth yeah

Thanks i accidentally broken the roots
