THE CAP - Looks like a cap from a gal distilled water. To reuse them - maybe a piece of foil or plastic bad. Use till full then trash / clean cap. So glad I found your channel. I watched this LUKA CEE started good years ago but has gotten away from TIPS / TRICKS / TECHNIQUES . Keep the tips coming
Thank you. I've been using water bottle and pop bottle lids lately, and honestly I like them better. they are smaller and deeper and it's easier to mix the paint.
I'm getting close to finishing my 5th build (70 Road Runner) and am starting to get interested in adding touches like radiator and heater hoses to future kits to make them more realistic and challenging. I know I will be watching this video several more times. Thanks, as always, for your insight and helpful techniques.
One thing about doing all the hoses and wires is it really makes the build so much more realistic. Once you do it, take it outside and take a few pictures in the sun. You will impress yourself. LOL Thanks again for watching and the kind words.
Thank you. I use the soft drink bottle caps too. The one's I like most are from the water bottles where my son works. They don't have that rubber stuff on them and mix paint so nice.
I use the .3mm solder for it's size. For the boots I feel that the heat shrink that fits over the solder is way out of scale. The glue gives me a bit of a bump where the plug head would be and when it's up against the head it's an acceptable representation of a boot. Now on a HEMI engine I do things a bit differently, but that's a subject for another video. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
I use a 4 x 6 piece of window glass for my blue 'pallette'; I used two sided tape to affix a piece of white paper to the back side. Works good and can be cleaned off between kits. In case you can't find more caps.I Great job on the hoses.
This is a great idea! I work at a university and am going to check if the Photo Lab still does film (I doubt it but I'm going to try) If they don't have them anymore I'll give that a try. I just like the caps because they are small and easy to move out of the way.
I am sooooo going to take your soda cap idea, I'm about out of caps.. I was able to get old film canister lids at work, but they don't teach Photography using film anymore, so I'm in trouble. Great tip. Thanks.
I know. I would be able to get garbage bags full of them five or six years ago, now I'm out. I just took three water bottle caps and a pop cap down when I came home from work today.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Hey to the soda cap idea. If the caps are too deep for you to use, maybe the caps from the cheaper bottled water. They are about 1/4 in. deep.
I've already asked everyone at work and around here to save their caps. I think I like them better than the ones I was using. Deeper will make it easier to mix a little more and keep it from drying out too fast. But I'm also collecting the lower water bottle caps for when I use super glue. Perfect solution for my problems. Is it ok if I mention you in my next update?
The 0.95 mm solder you specify works out to be roughly 1" diameter hose. Haven't measured a heater hose in a while (if ever) but that sounds about right. Thanks for the tip!
I never even tried to do the math. I've always heard to use telephone wire, then Cat 5 wire, and I just matched the .95 solder to the cat 5 strand and it was dead on. Plus it looks right. LOL
Great video! I noticed in the engine compartment, you have a red battery wire going down to the starter. How did you do that? Did you use solder for that as well or telephone wire? I love the details you do as this expands my thought process on building models. I've always wanted to do details like this and I can't wait to apply these techniques to my models I have lined up to build. Blessings!
Thank you very much for watching. I did use .3mm solder for both battery cables. I drill the battery and glue the solder to the battery. Then I paint the cables. This solder paints so nicely. Then I put the battery in place and guess how long the battery cables should be. Make sure you add about a half inch for fit. Long is ok, you can swoop the wire, short makes for a bad day. LOL. Then I thread the cable down to where it should go on the starter and that's it. It will stay in place as long as you aren't rough with the model. Then for the black line I cut it to run over to the block and just give it a little swoop down and over so it looks natural. I'm planning on doing a How to video on this with my El Camino build once I get to this point. If you have any other questions feel free to ask them here or you can always go to my Facebook page. I check that daily as well. I hope this helped, and have a great day.
@GrandpaMark's Hobbies thank you so much for the response and info. Im going to try that on my models too. I look forward to seeing your How To on the next build relating to this. Thanks again!
Mark I've seen you use different size solder for stuff. Any way you could go thru your stash and list the sizes you use? Is it straight solid solder or flux core? Thanks so much for all your tips. Your the best!
I use two different sizes of solder. .3mm and .9mm both are solid core. I also use strands from Cat5 cable. They are also .9mm but are stiff and are good for hoses that you may have to get rough with getting them in place. I will strip a little of the insulation and drill for that size hole. They all hold paint well and super glue in place well.
I never did any build videos of it, but if you are on Facebook here is a link to my finished pictures. facebook.com/ysumark/posts/pfbid02A4Wt6ZRP1netQBaoKud1nZ98mn42sRjER2NPhPAk8e9PC95TJ2x55BFRtZvPGtSsl

@@grandpamarkshobbies Never thought about taking pics of the kit outside in sunlight. Great idea!
Ohh yeah, when you take them out in the sun they look so much better!!!!!
Looks like solder is perfect for making hose! You can bend it and it dont kink. Looks like molded hose. Nice tutorial! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. It is very versatile. I use it in different sizes for a lot of things.
My eyes won't let me detail like that
It get's tough. I bought a visor that holds two magnifying glasses at the same time. If it wasn't for that I'd be out of the game.
Great job Mark. I use soft drink bottle caps for my paint and glue. I just ask friends to save them for me.

Great tip. That tip will definitely be used. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. It's an easy way to add a lot of detail to the engine bay.
Very nice tip. Something I will definitely be doing in the future. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much. It is a small add to the engine, but does make a big difference.
Been watching your videos all night on wiring, keep up the great work
Thank you very much. I'm glad I could help.
the cap you use for the glue looks like the top of a film roll case to me . thanks for the info .
Yes. I had so many of them, now I'm out. I would get a bag full of them from school, but they don't teach film anymore in photography.
you do a lot of detail and great video
Thank you.
Use heat shrink tubing over your solder for added realism.

Thanks for the tutorial on heater hoses! Looks great
Thank you for watching. Hope it helped.
Thank you for doing this tutorial.
You are very welcome, I hope it helps.
As for the caps you were using. I save the caps from carbonated drinks and use them as paint pots. I like your ideas.

Came across your channel and subbed immediately cuz your style is so "down home". and I like your hints- looking forward to your future vids

Thanks for the video super great work there for sure and I'll have to get some of that wire for sure. 🙂Thomas over at The Model Hobbyist
