Very interesting to hear that you struggled between feminine and modern style and am glad to hear you found your own combination. I heard a few other women at work talk about this as well. They like feminine , girly clothes like dresses, skirts, cardigan etc. But they were afraid of being judged as old fashioned or weak. So they chose to wear pants or jeans all the time. I thought that was a huge mistake to let others' biased perception dictate what they like to wear. Why would being feminine translated to being not modern or even weak? Two can totally coexist. In fact, a lot of women look a lot better in skirts or dresses than in pants or jeans. Style is personal. Being able to express self as an individual is reflection of confidence and strength.

Completely agree with this one. I've seen this with my friends as well - and I guess esp in the workplace. Finally finding that balance has been incredibly empowering for me - to feel very confident with my choices and just have fun experimenting :)

I LOVE your hair!! This is a great cut, whoever does it, did a fantastic job. I have not seen this cut on anyone in quite this way. Seriously, this looks fantastic on you!

The first example with striped cardigan alone shows how unique and daring you are. I love how you always infuse your own personality into your outfit instead of following the "classic" combination ❤️

I really enjoyed how you were explaining how to draw attention to particular areas without shaming or focusing too much on a specific aesthetic or body shape. Love all the explanation and the suggestions! Thanks again!

“Knowing what you can do with clothes”, Emphasize (focus): with neckline, sleeve, dress/pant hem. Opposite (direct focus away): proportions, accessories. Such a good video.

Love the observation that you need to make it "personal" - such an important thing to remember.

Great analysis of style. The gold button jacket looks gorgeous on you. This is why it is definitely best to be true to yourself and how clothes makes you feel. I still havent sorted out my three style words yet i keep changing my mind 😂 Thanks Helen you have definitely nailed down your style and I love the little tweaks you make to add interest!! 😘

Another good video, as usual. I love that Mama Helen makes an appearance in this one, good on her for agreeing to do it! 👏 She looks great, I especially love the outfit with the striped top under the cardi. Those trousers are elongating. Well, I guess she does have her own personal stylist 😉
I'm glad you instinctively go with your own style re the lace-up boots and long skirt - the 'wrong' shoe is purely contextual and not an objective fact. We see a dainty shoe as 'right' with a long skirt as that is the norm for our culture at this time. But it was super common for girls and women to wear lace up boots with longer skirts and dresses in the Edwardian period, for example (sure, they were not as chunky as the ones we like to wear now for this look, but it's the same principle). I have always loved that look! I like the idea of the 'wrong shoe' theory and might try out different ideas (although I'd be slightly worried that people would think I was on a trip and had accidentally forgtten to pack the correct shoes, instead of doing it intentionally 🤣).

That is so interesting with the longer skirts and dresses with boots in the Edwardian period. Very insightful that right and wrong are purely contextual. Thank you for sharing this with me, I love thinking (and sometimes overthinking) about style and how it's tied to culture and history :))

I've been told if I want to look taller or make my legs look longer. To wear pants that are longer and that skim right above the floor. And that I should not wear pants that are above my ankle or at ankle length. When I look at my photos they were right. It makes a huge difference. Love your videos and Ty for your time.

The mistakes I have made is instead of building my own style and mixing old and new things, I copy pasted clothing. I forgot to reflect on if it is also suiting my own personal style. I am currently working on finding the right shoes because this makes/breaks an outfit for me.😊 I recently learned that the right accesories can make a huge difference when I am wearing a casual outfit. Still on a journey but I am slowly getting there. Thanks for sharing Helen! ❤❤

Shoes are critical. It is so hard to find good quality ones that are both comfortable and stylish, especially for dress shoes. I have been looking for a pair of black leather low heels almond toe or pointed toe shoes for months, still no luck.

Helen your videos are the best! ❤Very helpful and informative. I agree especially with the first and last mistakes, our style should be personal and not defined by just a few words

I love mixing in elements of my past style that I'm fond of (one gold necklace) with newer pieces. Also I've been restricting myself with certain colors (brown and red) because I was never drawn to them, but I've realized that the right shades of them can be very flattering. This fall is focused on experimenting for me!

Why do you make a point to create juxtaposition to your outfit. Feminine pair with modern androgynous is a cool girl vibe.
