- Soloist or Dinky? Yes guys, I know a Soloist is neck thru and a Dinky is bolt on. 100% aware. But that distinction is irrelevant for this video as this is just a comparison of the shape and measurements to that of a strat body. So yes, the body I am holding is a bolt on, which Charvel would refer to as a Dinky. Again, I already know this. Stop getting your panties in a bunch over the name I used. Another reason I refer to it as a Soloist is because back in the 80s, Dinky bodies were smaller. And the place that made this body refers to it as an "SL" body because he also makes the Dinky body which is smaller like the dinky shapes from the 80s. Soloist or Dinky??? It doesn't matter for this video.

Interesting. Nice to see for myself instead of guessing. Although the Charvel is nice and lean looking, the strat is such a classic shape that's stood the test of time! Liked and subbed!
from a distance you can't really tell, but they really are different.
That's crazy looking! I have never done any work with anything like that so I'm impressed!
I haven't done any work with them yet. Thanks in advance!
Nice comparison 👍
Thanks
I personally prefer the classic strat body because it fits me nice with the proportions and rounded corners. On the "strat bodies" I make I add comfortable smooth shaping for my left arm to rest on the body. With a " Prs silver sky style" carving near the neck you can make all 24 frets accessible.
What sizes have soloist body?
Has there ever been a reason for this kind of shaping on the jackson bodies, besides the obvious, better axcess to the upper frets ? All those hard edges rather speak to a tele fan or a gibson fan
Like you said, better upper fret access. Other than that, it just looks cool.
2:26 nice. it feels good to know i am clearly not the only one who likes the strat shape, yet finds the lower part of the body way too big
i have even considered a Fender Lead 😶
Hello I have a Jackson soloist body, do you know what size neck heel fits that body. I’m using a Wilkinson 50mkII bridge
Most Jackson guitars have a neck pocket that measures 2 and 1/4 inches wide. Get a ruler and measure it. If it is 2 and 1/4 inches wide, then you need a neck to match it.
@@thebaldshredder mine is 2 3/16 width by 3” long x 5/8 high that is my pocket size.
Strat bodies will always be my favorite 😍😤
Now make a neck comparison
Informative... 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Who won the guitar giveaway? 😊
It wasn't Metal Dude!

To much blurred lines for my taste. Although Fender owns both Jackson and Charvel, there is a difference in the product lines. Fender does Strats. Charvel does DKs (Dinkys), San Dimas' and So-Cals Style 1s. Jackson does Dinkys, Sam Dimas' and additional Soloists. This comes with a wild melange through the history of the last 40+ years and multiple countries and factories of production.
Now your video: Where do these two bodies fit in? As you refer to one of them as a strat-body although it has a Fender-untypical PU-combination.
I hope i can win that giveaway guitar!!
Aren't Jackson Soloists neck-through?
Soloist...Dinky?
@@thebaldshredder Yeah, I heard that Dinkys are even a little smaller than Soloists too, can't tell for sure though, because the only Dinky I have is an 86 which is kind of strat-shaped so I can't compare it to my Soloists
What I've been told my whole life Soloist are all neck thru
Guess it's just cut the Soloist shape
Its wierd I have always thought that soloist bodies were longer and strat bodies were more compact... they still feel like that, though... huh... weird
The body sizes themselves are the same but the Soloist is actually a bit “longer” of a guitar due to how the neck joint differs on a Soloist and Dinky. On a Dinky the neck/fingerboard is set further into the body versus where the fingerboard ends on the Soloist and the bridge placement is adjusted for that to compensate for scale length. A Dinky’s bridge route is about 5mm closer to the back of the guitar versus a Soloists’.
I want to know the difference between a Charvel Dinky and a Jackson Dinky.
That is a bolt-on constructed body. Therefore it cannot be a soloist as soloists are all neck through. It’s also not a dinky because those are 7/8 size. This could possibly be a Charvel.
Thanks for the input. I'm aware that soloists are neck through. These are both after market bodies made by KnE Guitars. He sells both Soloist style and Dinky style bodies, both in a bolt on version. And he used actual Jackson/Charvel guitars to get the exact dimensions and measurements. So while this is a bolt on body, it should be the same dimensions of a Soloist body, or pretty close anyway. The point of the video to show how they line up or compare in size side by side. And if you want to see that "Soloist" body all done, check out my Lynch Burnt Tiger video. It turned out really cool. Thanks for watching.
ya I didn't get him saying soloist. I own five of them, and they are certainly not bolt ons
@@danfrost2076 these are bolt on versions of The Soloist body, meaning they are the same size and dimensions of a regular soloist body but they are made to accept a bolt-on neck. I hope that is clear enough for you.
@@thebaldshredder no because that would make it a dinky. a bolt on can't possibly be a neck thru. If it were a true soloist, it would be two half body pieces to glue onto neckthru. I get what your saying as far as dimensions if tbe body however.
@@danfrost2076 I know. I guess what it comes down to is that I called it a soloist because on the kne website he calls this one an SL. He has a slightly smaller one that is a DK. His dinky body has smaller horns like the older Charvel dinkies.
Strat is best
The strat is the thick girl you look at and ho wow!! The soloist is the skinnier , curvier, girl you see and go WOW!!
This should be a Dinky, not a Soloist. Dinky is 7/8 of Soloist body
KNE sells a dinky body (smaller) and a Soloist body (larger). This is the soloist body.
Both of you are wrong. A dinky and soloist are the same exact size. They are only 1/8 of an inch smaller. They were always listed as 7/8 the size of a strat. If the body was 7/8 smaller there would be practically no body at all.
Also another note is that a dinky is a bolt-on a soloist is neck through
That is definitely not a Soloist body...the soloist is neck-thru construction.
The Strat is like a '57 Chevy while the soloist is like a sports car. Both very cool.
