This was my first view of Pittsburgh. It was at night and it was beautiful. Lived there for a little over 6 years. Been through the tunnel a number of times, always impressive.
We recently were inadvertently routed through Pittsburgh via the Fort Pitt Tunnel, having never been to Pittsburgh before. This video does not truly do the view justice. It’s more spectacular in person. My spontaneous response upon exiting the tunnel was “Boom! There it is!” Mind blown. The best city view in the USA, and I have traveled all over. If you ever drive to Pittsburgh, especially if you have never been, do arrange your route so that you approach the city through the Fort Pitt tunnel. Completely worth the extra miles to catch that view for the first time.
Go up on top of Mount Washington, on Grandview Avenue, & check out the view of the city from one of the overlooks. Plenty of parking & a great view that includes PNC Park, Heinz Field, the 3 rivers, the city & quite the view from on top. It's beautiful day or night.
i love that view. i've done that drive so many dozens of times, usually at night. it's massively nostalgic for me. it will always remind me of the great parties i went to, the great people i met, and the great times that i had. i'm glad i can look back on my teenage years and smile rather than regret. thanks for uploading this :)

Came on is when we came out of the tunnel and the skyline was there and my wife said damn babe that was really cool and meanwhile I’m trying to drive with tears in my eyes cause it was pretty awesome
Some of my friends told me about this because they went to Pittsburgh for a conference and they were shocked when they went through a tunnel that began in rural Appalachia and exited at the skyline of a major city! I hope to get up there soon and see this city for myself! Great history.
@@zuthula3847 Actually, the tall buildings the poster referred to in Parkway Center are in Pittsburgh, not in Greentree, and they aren't that far from the entrance of the tunnel.
One of the best lead ups to a major city you'll ever get. Alot of nothing for hours, especially coming from WV or Ohio, a big tunnel and then Bam! Skyscrapers and Yellow Bridges. I miss me some Pittsburgh.
This was the first view I ever had of downtown Pittsburgh; coming through the other end of that tunnel was absolutely spectacular. As a bonus, it was at night so the skyline was all lit up.
The Tunnel from "The perks of being a wallflower" it's in my bucket list for several years now...I hope oneday I will be able to do the tunnel ride like the Wallflowers!!
That is a very nice view and I remember going through the tunnel as a child in the late 1980s and all of the 1990s and the first 6 months of 2000 at age 16. Great tunnel and great memories!!!
This was the tunnel I’d drive through as a child we would always hold our breath until the end and make a wish. I still drive through it to this day and I still find it to be an interesting tunnel 😁
many years ago on my way back from Ohio I took a trip into Pittsburgh visit my brother. that was my one and only time through this tunnel and it was spectacular.
I remember going through the Fort Pitt tunnel during school field trips and always we were told to keep quiet so the bus driver could worry about traffic
that wonderful humm in the tunnel surrounding your car.... and then at the end of the tunnel.....boom, the view of downtown Pittsburgh! C'est magnifique!
I remember when you would enter the tunnel and the car radio went silent. And it was the first test of your driving skills after getting your drivers license.
Dope video I been too Pittsburgh many times. I lived in mckeesport, clairton and West Elizabeth. Now I'm in Gadsden,Alabama, that tunnel reminds me of many nights spent in bars getting hammered lol
When my wife was a child, you could tour the tunnel from the maintenance building. She told me that a worker held her out above a ventilation shaft and she could see the cars underneath her.
@@davehollick3646 you have to have driving skills period to drive anywhere in Pittsburgh. It’s best described as: I see where I want to go, but I don’t know how to get there.
There is a 3rd tunnel for emergency exits in case of a fire. Also for maintenance. Pendot keeps tow trucks there too for accidents and breakdowns in the tunnels and bridges.
I just got back from visiting Pittsburgh. I was actually disappointed. I didn't think it was all that really. The fort Pitt tunnel entrance was nice but kinda underwhelming. Like big deal, it's a city on the other side of a tunnel. It's not that great. San Francisco via the 101 is way more scenic.
The only city with a front door.
